Did you read the link? I think I'm admitting that Blair did something right by negotiating rather than getting all hairy-chested and threatening. I'm not sure Bush played much of a role at all. And is it thinkable that maybe the Iranians, albeit a little belatedly, did something right?

I did read that the author still doesn't grasp the difference between the conservative and neo-conservative factions of the Republican Party. He probably doesn't listen too much to Sean Hanity and Rush Limbaugh. Both of them are conservatives and they both criticize neo-conservatives almost as much as they do liberals. Only they don't call them neo-conservatives, they call them moderates. But from a conservatives viewpoint, a neo-conservative is a moderate.

Gingrich represents the conservative faction or the Republican Party. He led the party through the 90s and bares a lot of responsibility for the conservative legislation signed into law by Clinton and for the balanced budget at the decade's end. Thus he is a hero to the conservative movement.

Gingrich resigned right after Bush was elected. Bush is a neo-conservative. That is what was a Southern Democrat 20 years ago. So he has taken the Republican party in a much different direction from where Gingrich left it.

The article started out by contrasting what Gingrich would have done with what was done.

Conservatives are actually much more bullish on defense than neo-conservatives. Anyone that listens to Micheal Savage knows the conservative position on defense. "Kill 'em all and let God sort them out." Conservatives wanted to use Iraqi's oil revenues to rebuild Iraq. Neo-conservatives used the American tax dollar to rebuild Iraq. Conservatives wanted to invade Iraq the day after 9/11, neo-conservatives, led by Bush, waited for over a year. This latest event with Iran again contrasts conservatives, like Gingrich and neo-conservatives like Bush and McCain.

The author actually points out the difference in perspective between conservative, Bill Kristol, and the neoconservative President Bush in the 2001 China airplane hostage situation. However the aurthor fails to distiguish.

"The neoconservative psyche is the same as the neoconservative approach to the world. Their only real criticism of George Bush is that he has not been sufficiently militaristic and forceful."

The author doesn't seem to know if Bush is a neoconservative or not. That quote makes it sound like the author doesn't think Bush is a neoconservative. It would make more sense if it read this way...

America isn't as big and powerful as conservative want to believe. I said it before on this board and I will say it again. The US is not going to war with Iran. Maybe a missile attack but I even doubt that. I think the fact we got through this event without military action only goes to support my position. Conservatives think Bush is too wimpy and Liberals think he is a warmonger. Perhaps he isn't either.

Bravus, I think now that you have so much extra distance away from North America, your view on current events has a lot more balanced view than many of us who are right close to the "action."

Sometimes it does pay to rattle one sabers. It makes Iran think that maybe this game has gone long enough. Time to get out before the cost of the game gets to high.

I have read that the Pentagon has said it would take one hour for US air forces in the area to wipe out Irans Navy and airforce in the gulf.

Iran Knows this. They will only push so far before they stop the piracy game they are playing.

I thing Iran is also testing the waters to see who is on its side. And now split the USA people are. Not that I am for us going in there also! But I do feel that if Israel feels threaten that they probably won't hesitate or wait until its to late.
