Dr. Shane Posted April 29, 2007 Posted April 29, 2007 "My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children." Hosea 4:6 Faith in science or faith in scientific theories? Faith in science = I trust when I drop something it will fall. I have a lot of faith in science. Faith in scientific theory = The earth is millions of years old. I am much more hesitant to embrace a theory. Quote Pastoral Family Counselor... Taylor Posted April 30, 2007 Posted April 30, 2007 I think there needs to be a balance between knowledge and faith. Knowledge is extremely important. We can't trust a God we do not know first hand through the Bible. The doctrines, the laws as well as the stories, the experience of others, the wittness of those who knew Jesus in person are all for our good to make our lives happier and more complete. However, we also must have a relationship with God and God does have laws and rules. God does not save us because we "do the right things" because we are only saved by the merits of Jesus. However, a person who has given their entire lives to God will want to do his will no matter what that cuts acrossed, not because he has to but because he wants to. There is the difference. And I also have a lot of faith in science, in much of science, but not when it directly contradicts the Bible. In that case it is not hard for me to make a choice. God knows infinately more than any human. Quote
Woody Posted May 2, 2007 Posted May 2, 2007 If salvation is based on what we know .... We are all lost. Each of us has different understandings of spiritual matters and interpretations of scripture. And that is fine. We will be reprogrammed when Jesus comes. Name two people on this earth who have exactly the same knowledge and interpretation of scripture .... No. What we as Christains need is tolerance and acceptance of those Christians who see things differently. I guess one thing is important in this area ... and that is LOVE. We should love those who see things differently. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.
