olger Posted October 21, 2008 Posted October 21, 2008 Samson !! Quote "Please don't feed the drama queens.."
Members phkrause Posted October 21, 2008 Members Posted October 21, 2008 I'm guessing that olger is right but samuel's mother did the same thing. But I think that samuel was considered a prophet and not a judge? pk Quote phkrause When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan. Proverbs 29;2
Administrators Gail Posted October 21, 2008 Author Administrators Posted October 21, 2008 The answer is Samuel- 1 Sam.1:11 If I remember correctly, Samson's mother was approached by the "Angel of the Lord" and told that she would have a son, that the son would be a Nazarite from his birth and that he would begin to deliver Israel from the Philistines. Hannah, OTOH, asked for her child ("For this child I prayed") and promised that if she could have one that she would dedicate him to the Lord. This she did. I would call Samuel a judge, and not only Samuel but his sons also: 1 Sam.7:17-8:1. It was because of the evil nature of his sons that the people demanded a king. Well, it gave them an excuse when they came to Samuel, anyway. Here is the next question: How long was David king of Judah before he also became king of Israel? Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.
Members phkrause Posted October 21, 2008 Members Posted October 21, 2008 about 7 or 8 years. I just check with the commentary and it mentions that samuel was considered a leader, prophet and judge. So I guess I'm alright with being correct. haha pk Quote phkrause When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan. Proverbs 29;2
Administrators Gail Posted October 23, 2008 Author Administrators Posted October 23, 2008 Quote: about 7 or 8 years. Yes! Administrators Gail Posted November 3, 2008 Author Administrators Posted November 3, 2008 Well this ? has me, and it looks like other's also, stumped. Or maybe the ? is a little off? Maybe a hint would help. The story is found in Judges 9, and the ruler in question is Abimelech. It is his youngest brother Jotham, who relates the story to the people. Abimelech has just taken control by force, and in the process kills his 70 brothers, leaving only Jotham who escapes by hiding. In the story of the trees, Abimelech is described as a bramble, not God-blessed at all but a thorny weed. The end of the story contains a curse against Abimelech. His downfall came in Judges 9:50-> when a woman dropped a millstone on his head as he fought against a tower wall. Not wanting that others remark that a woman killed him, he asks his armorbearer to finish him with a sword. Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.
Administrators Gail Posted November 3, 2008 Author Administrators Posted November 3, 2008 Whew! What a story! But let's go on to another intriguing question: Who had the second-longest recorded lifespan- 962 years? Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.
