Dr. Shane Posted May 1, 2007 Posted May 1, 2007 I can't help but envy these men whose wives figure out the best gift they can ever get them is to reunite them with their first love. I first heard the story of the Country singer Alan Jackson's wife doing this. Now I heard the story of conservative commentator Glenn Beck's wife doing this. And I think, how romantic. These wives truly understand what makes a man tick. I remember my first. I was so proud to bring her home to my mom. I remember how my friends all admired her although she raised my aunt's eyebrows who thought I could do better. But I loved her and should have never let her go. She was a 1960 Chevy 3/4 ton with a wrap-around windshield. I still turn my head each time I see one. My wife says I am dreaming but maybe someday, on Christmas morning, I will find one parked in the driveway with a big bow on the hood. Quote Pastoral Family Counselor... olger Posted May 1, 2007 Posted May 1, 2007 Ha. 1969 Camaro for me.. :) Quote "Please don't feed the drama queens.."
Administrators Gail Posted May 1, 2007 Administrators Posted May 1, 2007 Sweet! I like both Alfa Romeos and the '69 Camaro!! But my favourite car is still the Viper. Anyone seen the new one yet? Up to 600 horses, I've read... it's getting rave reviews Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.
David Koot Posted May 1, 2007 Posted May 1, 2007 Ahhh, a muscle car. The 57 Giulietta had a different aura. Think of a pleasant drive in Naples, with the ragtop down. Quote
Clio Posted May 1, 2007 Posted May 1, 2007 1967 Mustang Quote A heart where He alone has first place.
Administrators Gail Posted May 1, 2007 Administrators Posted May 1, 2007 Yes, those old Mustangs are classics... Do you like the newer retro ones, Clio? Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.
Steve Murphy Posted May 1, 2007 Posted May 1, 2007 2007 Chevy Suburban for me! Quote Shine your Light on the World!
Clio Posted May 1, 2007 Posted May 1, 2007 Not particularly... they're so... retro... and that's been done and done and done and done. It feels like a doppelganger... and that's just wrong on *so* many levels. Now, someone who takes a 67 'stang, lovingly restores it, and then drives it like it was meant to be driven... They're my kind of car fan... Clio Quote A heart where He alone has first place.
David Koot Posted May 1, 2007 Posted May 1, 2007 Ahhh, but there is nothing to compare with an Italian sports car, especially one from the '50's. The Alfa Giulietta had an aluminum body which I think was designed by Pininfarina. That ties with a Ferrari of the same vintage, fire engine red, which I came within a hairsbreadth of buying. Dave Quote
Administrators Gail Posted May 1, 2007 Administrators Posted May 1, 2007 Fire engine red, candy apple red- nothing better than that colour! You almost bought a Ferrari? Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.
David Koot Posted May 1, 2007 Posted May 1, 2007 It had a very special ambience. The old Italy. Wish I had the car now. And, of course, the wishbone suspension! But that needs some wonderful mountain roads to do justice to it. Quote
Dr. Shane Posted May 1, 2007 Author Posted May 1, 2007 Not too many men have forgotten their first car. My old Chevy pick-up was a rust bucket by I kept it cleaned and covered with Turtle wax and Armor All. There is something about a young boy's memory of his first car that he will cherish forever. Administrators Gail Posted May 1, 2007 Administrators Posted May 1, 2007 My son had a 240... I have lots of memories of the 240Z... I have mentioned on here before that my father was Canada's first Datsun salesman. I still have the kimono that he brought me back from Japan when Nissan gave him a trip to their factory When the 240Z came out, Dad thought it would never sell... When I was 17 I went with a girlfriend down to California in hers. I remember travelling at 100 mph. We then switched places, she then got behind the wheel and got pulled over Nope- never did THAT in one of them, though!!! LOL Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.
David Koot Posted May 1, 2007 Posted May 1, 2007 Kind of a Shelby Cobra with glasses? olger No, it was a car with character, not a performance car. Think of touring the coast of Italy, with a beautiful woman sitting beside you. It was the kind of car that made you want to sing, 'O Sole Mio' at the top of your lungs, while you were driving her. It had a soul. There was music. The Ferrari was beautiful, too. Pininfarina styling. I drove it, I loved it, I wanted it. You hit 100 without even realizing it, and then you would shift into 5th gear. And it could corner like you wouldn't believe. It, too, had a soul. There was music. What a contrast with what I am driving now! Stolid, dependable. No soul, no music. Oh, well. Dave Quote
Taylor Posted May 2, 2007 Posted May 2, 2007 hahahaa David I love your description! Unfortunately I think most of us have solid dependable vehicles, our wallets and the addition of kids in the family demand them, but we can dream of sleek cars can't we? Quote
