Moderators lazarus Posted July 19, 2007 Author Moderators Posted July 19, 2007 Ok let me save some time.... Quote: Watched the video. Yes. really, an extended ad hominem attack. LAZ: Oh no it isn't. EDD: LOL LAZ: I've never see you use that before (LOL) EDD: You never made me laugh before LAZ: Don't lie EDD, I make you laugh all the time. EDD: People often change the subject wehn they have no logical response. LAZ: EDD you're sharp. EDD: So sharp I cut myself Laz. LAZ: LOL, anyway, the Bush admin uses ad homie' attack stuff all the time EDD: You use that all the time (LOL). That tells me alot about you! LAZ: Ah ha.....thats an Ad hominem attack EDD: No its not..... LAZ: Yes it is EDD: In fact this whole dialogue is an Ad Hominem attack on me! there buster Posted July 20, 2007 Posted July 20, 2007 There is nothing in the video about the merits of the case, only that the producer considers his subjects hypocrites. That's not an argument about a policy, just an attack on those who disagree with him. Anyone who watches the video can verify that. They may agree with his verdict, they may disagree. I have not addressed that. Whether his thesis--such as it is--is correct or not, it is a simple and straightforward attack on those he disagrees with. As a piece of propaganda, it may reinforce those who agree with him. It does nothing to advance the debate, either way. OH, and don't manufacture comments from me, don't put words in my mouth. It's unsanitary, and you're not good at it. “the slovenliness of our language makes it easier to have foolish thoughts.” George Orwell

Moderators lazarus Posted July 20, 2007 Author Moderators Posted July 20, 2007 I agree that its an attack on those that disagree with the presenter. I disagree that its just that. My hypocrisy always leads to doubt being cast on my arguments which in turn advances the cause of the other side. It will may cause someone to think again, dig a little deeper, ask some questions. On reflection, I'm sorry I can't agree not to manufacture words from you or to stop putting words in your mouth. These are very important skills here on CA. Unsanitary, thats funny but a bit corny. As to not being very good, practice makes perfect. Great spirits have always found violent opposition from mediocrities. All they did was provide you a place to complain and cast ennuendo upon them. As Captain Hook once said, " poor form!" Quote: Quote: practice makes perfect. A common misconception. Such dialog is indicative of dysfunctional SDA writers and principals and teachers. Oh, I am sorry, but you fall into all three of those catagories. Must mean that you are 3 time as dysfunctional. Neil, it's just this type of post that has had the board lit up for a number of days. Ed didn't call the administration sick, but the forum as a whole. So an apology is due Ed for twisting his comment. That second comment about Ed? Yeah, that didn't need to happen. So another apology is due Ed for the personal attack. <p><span style="color:#0000FF;"><span style="font-weight:bold;"><span style="font-style:italic;">"Do not use harmful words, but only helpful words, the kind that build up and provide what is needed, so that what you say will do good to those who hear you."</span></span> Eph 4:29</span><br><br><img src="http://banners.wunderground.com/weathersticker/gizmotimetemp_both/US/OR/Fairview.gif" alt="Fairview.gif"> Fairview Or</p>
there buster Posted July 21, 2007 Posted July 21, 2007 Amelia, I would like to point out that I did not condemn the forum, because I do not agree with Lazarus' description. Lazarus said, in effect, that putting words in another's mouth was a 'survival skill.' IF, and only if that were true, it would be a description of a sick forum. However, I do not concur with that description, therefore I do not hold CA to be 'a desperately sick' place. Quite the contrary. And that was my point. I do not always agree with what moderators do and how they do it, but I'm guessing even moderators don't always agree with what they've done. In my own limited experience moderating a couple of threads, I'm not always happy with the decisions I've made. In sum: the criticism was Lazarus', not mine. It seemed harsh to me, which I stated. The second statement is that practice was not improving Lazarus' ability to put words in my mouth. My statements addressed the statements Lazarus made, and did not express my opinion about CA. “the slovenliness of our language makes it easier to have foolish thoughts.” George Orwell
Amelia Posted July 21, 2007 Posted July 21, 2007 I see. You don't care that I moderated Neil on your behalf but only that I get what you said/ment, right. Well Ed, I often don't get what you mean out of the way you state it. I guess you aren't direct enough with your points for me. Circular speaking makes my head spin. hs I'm damned if I do and damned if I don't <p><span style="color:#0000FF;"><span style="font-weight:bold;"><span style="font-style:italic;">"Do not use harmful words, but only helpful words, the kind that build up and provide what is needed, so that what you say will do good to those who hear you."</span></span> Eph 4:29</span><br><br><img src="http://banners.wunderground.com/weathersticker/gizmotimetemp_both/US/OR/Fairview.gif" alt="Fairview.gif"> Fairview Or</p>
there buster Posted July 21, 2007 Posted July 21, 2007 That's not what I wrote or what I meant. I don't know how you came to that conclusion. I appreciate you dealing with Neil. I was merely pointing out that I had not, as you indicated, condemned the forum at all, or the moderators. That was all the last post was about. I wanted you to know I had not condemned the forum. “the slovenliness of our language makes it easier to have foolish thoughts.” George Orwell
Neil D Posted July 21, 2007 Posted July 21, 2007 Quote: That's not what I wrote or what I meant. I don't know how you came to that conclusion...[snip]...I was merely pointing out that I had not, as you indicated, condemned the forum at all, or the moderators. That's not what you said...Your inclusion of "c/a" was not limited to forum, thread or a few individuals...Your blanket statement was for all of clubadventist. You meant everyone, from the adminstation down to the lowest person on the board [which is me.]I merely pointed out the unspoken implications and addressed them. As a self professed "Adventist author", I hold you to a higher standard as to useage of words. Either you meant all of clubadventist or your not as good a wordsmith as you profess, and you misspoke. Either way, I will ask for accountability to your abusive posts. As for an appology, I am sorry, Ed, that your posts, when they are in reply to someone who doesn't hold your view point are so abusive. Holding a different opinion and having it rediculed does make it difficult to have ClubAdventist a safe place to post. Democracy is a device that ensures we shall be governed no better than we deserve. George Bernard Shaw
there buster Posted July 22, 2007 Posted July 22, 2007 Read the posts. The condemning statement was written by Lazarus, not me. He was the one who declared that putting words in other people's mouths was 'a survival skill,' here. I didn't. Lazarus wrote: I can't agree not to manufacture words from you or to stop putting words in your mouth. These are very important skills here on CA. I replied: Wow! That's the strongest condemnation of CA I've seen so far. Now that's a description of a desperately sick place. Did I say I agreed with Lazarus characterization? No. In fact, it should be obvious that I disagreed with it. The entire point is that 'putting words in other people's mouths' is a very bad thing to do. To say that it is a survival skill, as Lazarus did, is to say that one is in a very sick environment. I did not agree with Lazarus. Your last post, however, may cause me to reconsider. “the slovenliness of our language makes it easier to have foolish thoughts.” George Orwell
Neil D Posted July 22, 2007 Posted July 22, 2007 You are becoming predictable, Ed. Look again at the reason he put words into your mouth, Ed. It's because you are so negative, all he did was accelerate your end of the dialogue that you would have had. It is legitament tact to reach the objective...to find out what you would have said regarding the article posted. Instead, what you did was take a side trip...one where your character showed....one in which you made a blanket statement to the offense of a lot of people here. The honest truth of the matter is that YOU owe C/A an appology. You have clarified what you meant...but nevertheless, you owe us an appology for calling C/A...what did you say again...?
