David Koot Posted January 4, 2008 Posted January 4, 2008 I understand, Redwood. You have a point--don't stoop to their level. There is a way to stand up to a bully without sacrificing one's own dignity and becoming like he is. It's just a shame that the stuff has to happen. If we can unite against the destructive behaviors of the few who seem to gang up (like a tag team) and ridicule those they disagree with, then a whole lot of good could happen IMO. How about it, pardner? Shall it start with you and me? Dave Quote
Moderators Denise Posted January 4, 2008 Moderators Posted January 4, 2008 Redwood, he didn't call you or anyone here specifically a floating flake, that's the name you gave yourself or others here...go back and read.... no, that's ok, I will quote it here, save you the trouble..... They stand for what ever feels goods and what they think the truth says and have no thus saith the Lord for thier positions. That says nothing about anyone on here. Also, Now why do you seem to forget all the smart remarks of everyone else such as this: Quote: Was going to post , but believe it best to leave this topic alone in light of the self righteousness being displayed...reminds me of a parable.... Which was said right before the mirror comment....Norman just responded to that comment which was said to him....hmmmmm..... My point is that no matter what someone does ... doing the same in return does not help. Saying look in the mirror is not going to help calm down the person that you have an objection with. David Koot Posted January 4, 2008 Posted January 4, 2008 Denise, that is exactly the kind of comment I am talking about--what you referred to. The perception I have is that a few Adventist yuppies, white, middle-class, grew up SDA, have a huge resentment toward people they see as conservative. They hated the Adventist lifestyle growing up--for whatever reason, and now, they are going to take out their resentment, anger and ridicule upon those whom they identify with conservative Adventism. My take? They need therapy. Meanwhile, the rest of us need to unite to put a bit between their teeth and not allow them to destroy. Call it 'tough love' maybe. Dave Quote

I asked you this before and I will ask it again. This was a comparison for some reason ??? WHY ??? I just find it totally un-necessary name calling. David just articulated a most poignant truth. And said it well. Not accusing anyone in particular, yet as a convert to this message, i have seen exactly this sentiment displayed in many folks. I found it somewhat puzzling at first, when I came into the church, but learned to overlook it. Their bitterness isn't my own. oG Quote "Please don't feed the drama queens.."

Norman Byers, N.D. Posted January 4, 2008 Posted January 4, 2008 Quote: Dave ... I believe as you ... call out the bully ... but don't do it by bullying. I mean don't stoop to their level. I find that quoting them does just fine. Calling some one a "floating flake" and asking people to "look in the mirror" ... and calling people "sorry and messed up" ... is not the way to promote discussion in a peaceful Christian way. I think you would have to agree ... Mat 10:34 Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword. Your idea of a peaceful Christian discussion will take place when truth is the foundation of some of your devisive posts. You frequently post half truths and things that are sometimes just plain wrong. This is besides the disagreements that we may have. You can't expect people to agree with you and be all nicey nicey when words are an issue of life and death. If you or anyone else post something that is wrong, I'm going to say something about it. You feel the same way I imagine, so we go on and go on because we believe in what we have to say. If you are so thin skinned at me calling some people flakes (which I did not say was you, you identified yourself as such and I noted your confession) you should probably not get into those types of discussions. It reveals your lack of knowledge if you say these things don't meet your standard of Christian discussion. It shows that you don't have the ability to respond and therefore leaves you frustrated. Then you cry out and hope others will have pity on you, wanting their approval. This will solve nothing for you. I will give you some pointers to help you in your discussions. If you want to quote EGW go to this site http://www.egwtext.whiteestate.org/published-writings.html There you will find all of her published writings and you can find what ever you need to make well rounded comments. If you want to quote the Bible got to www.esword.com there you will find multiple translations and concordances to help you with Greek and Hebrew. All of these you can copy and paste and add into your discussion without getting wrong information and being able to handle more heat without crying out for help. The mirror comment: no one was asked to look in the mirror and the comment was deserved for making such a rude and unChirstian comment about you. Poeple who come to CA to copy other people's post to show other's how bad some people are here, who are not in the mix and have no idea about the context, is just plain wicked; that's sorry and messed up. How would you feel if I did that to you more than I already have? (just kidding) but you get my point. The way to have peaceful Christian discussion is to be honest and post the truth. If one does this, they willhave peace regardless of who is opposing them. This I know from experience, therfore I ask no one to help me, although many do. Amelia Posted January 4, 2008 Posted January 4, 2008 OK, as an ADMIN, I would have helped with weeding the thread had I known there was a problem. But I don't read all threads and sometimes it takes a polite PM for me to look into something. As to why fighting can't be stopped? Woody Posted January 4, 2008 Author Posted January 4, 2008 I guess I need help here. I don't know how to post your truth. I know what is truth in the scripture from what I have read for me but not for anyone else. I may not be as learned as you and therefore I don't understand all that you do. But I don't post what I know to be error. I can only post what I understand to be truth. Unlike yourself ... I make NO claims that my understanding of scripture IS THE TRUTH. That I leave up to you. I can only speak to my personal experience with God and His leading in my life and my study. And I would not impose this on you. I would not want to change your view of God. That is yours. And you can view it as truth if you want. But I don't view my view as truth until I get to Heaven. I will then be able to verify if I was right or wrong. For now ... my view is my view. I will leave the "truth" posting to you. As you say ... you have experience with that. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.
Woody Posted January 4, 2008 Author Posted January 4, 2008 "Your comments remind me of another sorry and messed up person " Norman .... I am sure you didn't mean this at any person somehow ... but this is an example of how I think we could be kinder. Calling people "sorry and messed up" would imply some kind of assessment of them. I would call it judgment but that word is not accepted among some circles. I prefer to think of God's creation as misinformed or struggling in a sinful world where Satan is in control. I tend to want to find lots of excuses for them ... for I also am a confused , sorry and messed up sinner at times. But I would not call anyone else other than myself that. Praise God ... HE died for those "messed up and sorry" individuals. I find I am much happier when I believe the best in people. I am sorry for your frustration and anger. But I find that a soft answer turns away wrath much better than a harsh one. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.

Moderators John317 Posted January 4, 2008 Moderators Posted January 4, 2008 Folks ... what does it take to stop a fight on CA? Refuse to "fight." Stay on issue. Don't get personal, especially if you have a disagreement with someone's viewpoint. Simply show the weakness of someone's argument by pointing out evidence and/or flaws in logic. Quote: The moderator here By the way, who is that? Certainly not John 3: 17. I'm neither the moderator on the present thread nor on the other one that deals with the History of Women Elders and Pastors. Quote: has made a big stink when some on other threads have mentioned difficult questions for him to answer saying he can't speak about it because HE thinks is might not be 'on topic'. Yet ... here on this thread he is participating with divisive and hijacking discussions. I didn't see any difficult questions there and I didn't make a "big stink" about any thing. I would suggest that anyone who is interested in such a dull subject read the exchange to see for themselves. I simply said I will answer the questions at another point because they weren't about the subject that I was interested in discussing. Each person here has a right to answer questions as they choose, and others shouldn't think they have the ability to read minds in order to know why they choose to answer the way they do. To say that I didn't answer them because they are "too difficult" requires mind-reading. I know you don't like people to do this with you-- as nobody does like it-- so please refrain from doing it with others. Quote: I have called for this moderator to stop this. Again, if you are referring to John 3: 17, he's not the moderator on that thread or on this one. I have been offline for several days. Regards, "John 3: 17" Quote John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. [17] For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.
carolaa Posted January 5, 2008 Posted January 5, 2008 The Bible says we are to speak the truth in love. To me, that means kindly and respectfully. Why are some people afraid to say, "I apologize if I hurt your feelings or came across in a negative way"? We all have difficulty at times expressing ourselves and interpreting others. It's going to happen, and it's no big deal, just say sorry and try to be kinder next time. It sounds like some of us feel that others are too sensitive and shouldn't take offense at the plain truth. Hey, I'm the queen of bluntness and being "right," but I've learned (am still learning!) that there are more effective ways of communicating and relating with people. Jesus teaches us that the way we treat each other is extremely important; it's how people can tell we are His followers. Maybe if we all kept that in mind every time we posted, it would be a friendlier place. Quote
