I don't have to check the mail on Monday. But that's ok, I don't need the day off to celebrate. MLK was a wonderful and loving Christian and I am going to celebrate MLK Day by being a wonderful Christian myself.

Here in Texas they has a skeleton holiday called confederate soldiers day. If it will get me some time off, fine by me.

Indeed. The War for Southern Independence was fought by some who were very devout. The fact that they had beliefs different than mine does not detract from their devotion to the cause and the beliefs they held so strongly. I can only say, with A. Lincoln at his Second Inaugural, that each side prayed to the same God, and each side believed that they were doing right--for example, R.E. Lee and T.J. Jackson, to only name a couple of them. In fact, even today, if you google images for the words, 'Onward Christian Soldiers,' you will see a portrait of Genls. Lee and Jackson and others riding together on a wintry day.

But NO, I am not being greedy. (And how could you even think such a thing about me?!!) I asked because I am supposed to get travel money tomorrow for our guys who are going out of town early Tuesday, and I may be in big TROUBLE.

I believe MLK Day is a Federal holiday. So city and state offices and agencies will be closed. Banks are not allowed to be closed more than 3 days in a row, so banks will be open Friday and closed Monday.

Most holidays are viewed as just that. An excuse to not work. Most in this country are convinced they need these days of rest,which rarely is used for rest or for the stated purpose. Shane's response was probably more in line with the real purpose of these holidays

4th of July is celebrated with the addition of more troopers on the highways to guard innocent people from the drunk that is celebrating the independence of our nation. Christmas is a time of overspending ,going into debt and buying much useless items "just because". A day off with pay at the expense of employers to provide a day to play.

MLK is about the silliest holiday . There are speeches,but how much of this day is spent by those remembering the life and what this man did. If important to someone to spend a day doing that, let then have off work at their own expense.

President's day isn't any different. If we want to honor and spend the day remembering and celebrating what these men did,do so, but at your own expense. If this is a day truly important for the stated reasons most will find a way to remember.

Labor day, this rather strange day to celebrate.Again more troopers to guard against the drunk "resting from his labors" in the finest tradition. Memorial Day, another drunken rest day for many. Many families do get together for picnics etc at the beginning of summer innocently enough, but it has nothing to do with honoring our war dead.

Great importance is placed on these paid for days to play. The employer that does not provide paid for play time is seen as a greedy unfeeling employer.

When someone celebrates these days as the name implies or as a means of respect for those that have made great sacrifices they will be celebrated in a differnt manner.

Our local banks do not close on most of these. Adding these days to their regular scheduled vacations times so they have longer vacations,instead of a day here and a day there.

Funny, we had family members that knew the White's and the personal contact with her did not show her as you so often try to.

Really thought this was about MLK holiday and what might appear to be EW's unreasonable stance on holiday observance. And the fact you specifically addressed me on the topic

Please take the opportunity to clarify your true honest feelings concerning EW and why you use every opportuinity to post a little snippet that cannot be read as complimentery when there is so much more on a given subject. And that snippet is always to make her seem less than she was.

I am not sure how quoting her makes her seem less than she was. I think the issue is in your mind not mine.

I can't possibly do an exhaustive display of all she says on a particular subject. No one does that. It is typical and usual practice to quote her on a particular subject without listing ALL she says on a topic. If you feel there is something else she has to say ... then by all means .... quote more of her if that pleases you.

I am not going to rehash my support of Ellen White. I've done this for your benefit already and most here have heard me reinforce this many times. If you want further clarification ... you can send me a PM.

In the mean time ... I will continue to quote her on varied topics. You can agree with the quotes ... you can disagree ... or you can add more quotes. But I do hope you will stop putting words in my mouth. It is always wise to ask me for clarification before jumping to conclusions.

There is a reason why there were guards outside the inner sanctuary of the Temple where the shekina glory resided....It was NOT to protect God from attacks from outside forces....It WAS to protect foolish people from rushing into the inner sanctuary to meet God.

If EGW is God's messenger, then let God's words protect Him and His messenger. They have in the past and done well.

Those "snippets", as you call them, have no tone in this medium. It is something that one has to 'read into' Redwoods posts....and in doing so, one has to know Redwood and where he is at.....

So, maybe your post, in asking for clarification of Redwood's position, will help you to know where he is at....

There is no purpose to inserting little incomplete snippets that

leave the impression you seem to be trying to leave concerning EW.

What did she have to do with MLK holiday?? EW as the little snippets you present is not a woman I would want to know or have influence over my children while they were growing up.

There are things I do not understand,especially when I do not take the whole of what she had to say or take into account a different century. But in keeping with your often stated desire to see acceptence,tolerance and respect for those that hold a different belief it would seem you would show a degree of fairness when dealing with EW on a SDA forum.

Many times tho if you take the time to do some research you find her not nearly so out of sync as you make her appear. She did not take her crystal ball every morning and obtain the Lord's directive for the day

Previously I was a hairdresser. I remember the snide comments and how foolish EW was made to appear on the topic of wigs. Away from any discussion of EW,a secualr school agreed with her. She was dead on the money. She may not have understood why in her day, but knew they were very detrimental to women and had serious consequences.She was dead on the money

Well, based upon the way you jumped on him in the suicide thread, when he addressed a post to me, and it's subsequent furor over his use of EGW comments, I thought I would smooth this out a bit...but since you have express that I am to butt out, ...I will...
