Planey Posted February 16, 2008 Posted February 16, 2008 Switch to Fox ... Why on earth would any intelligent person listen to Faux News????? Woody Posted February 16, 2008 Posted February 16, 2008 Now this was one low blow that I did not deserve. Rule # 777 says no name calling. Stan .... lets bring back the thread on Rules. The topic of this thread is necking not the color of MY neck. What is the punishment for such name calling? I consider this a hate crime. For all the Reds out there ... I am insulted that someone would make fun of the color of my skin. Laz ... are you going to come to my side on this one? Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Dr. Shane Posted February 16, 2008 Author Posted February 16, 2008 When people in a far extreme position look at people in the middle they often cannot distinguish them from people in the opposite extreme. It is not because of the position the person in the middle is. It is because the position the extreme person is in. It is like standing and looking off in the distance. One can distinguish well how far a tree 5 meters away is from a tree 10 meters away. However it is much more difficult to distinguish how far a tree 200 meters away is from a tree 250 meters away. Now let me bring this home. Someone on the far right looking at the mainstream media (which leans left) often confuses the mainstream media with left-wing extremes. They do this because they are so far right they cannot distinguish the difference between slightly left and the extreme left. Likewise, someone on the far left looking at FOXNews (which leans right) often confuses it with the right-wing extremes. They do this because they are so far left they cannot distinguish the difference between slightly right and the extreme right. So when someone starts calling people that watch FOXNews names, they actually tell us more about themselves then they are telling us about the one they are criticizing. Neil D Posted February 16, 2008 Posted February 16, 2008 And then there is the spectrum where the extreme left is placed and then the extreme right is placed and everyone falls somewhere inbetween... So when one posts this- Quote: So when someone starts calling people that watch FOXNews names, they actually tell us more about themselves then they are telling us about the one they are criticizing. He is correct!....... It actually does tell us more about themselves than the diatribe they expouse.... Quote Democracy is a device that ensures we shall be governed no better than we deserve. Neil D Posted February 17, 2008 Posted February 17, 2008 ....and by viewing the extremes, where does that help to unify the country and bring them to the middle? More than likely, it continues to polorizes the country.... Quote Democracy is a device that ensures we shall be governed no better than we deserve. George Bernard Shaw
Dr. Shane Posted February 17, 2008 Author Posted February 17, 2008 Who says the middle is where the country should be? I would tend to believe that but... I am just one guy and subject to being wrong. FOXNews and the internet have done the entire news industry a good thing. They have brought into discussion the whole concept of how the news is getting reported to us. The mainstream media has changed and continues to react to new market forces brought about by FoxNews and the new media (internet & talk radio). Quote Pastoral Family Counselor... Planey Posted February 17, 2008 Posted February 17, 2008 FOXNews (which leans right) That's like saying Adolf Hitler had slight right-wing tendencies... Graeme PS Redwood - I was just joshing. It's hard to communicate tone of voice in print, hence the laughing icons to let you you know the comment was tic. Sorry for any offense. It was definitely unintended. Graeme PS Those on the far right, like Limbaugh and Buchanan, have the same reaction when someone says the mainstream media leans slightly left. Those that believe FOXNews is radically conservative are so far to the extreme left they cannot distinguish the difference between a slightly conservative position and a radically conservative position. They look at a tree 200 meters away and think it is next to the tree 250 meters away. They are simply so far way from either tree they cannot tell the difference. FOXNews employees a lot of liberals. That is documented. The reason some of their conservative programs get good time slots is because conservative viewers drive up the ratings for those programs. FOXNews isn't putting their conservative programs in the good time slots because they are trying to push a conservative agenda. They do it because that is what their viewers want to watch. It is all about making money from the ratings. Yet even this conservative hosts have liberal guests on a regular basis in an effort to be fair and balanced. Hosts such as Greta Van Susteren and Geraldo Rivera are not conservatives and they have their own programs on FOXNews. Quote Pastoral Family Counselor... Dr. Shane Posted February 17, 2008 Author Posted February 17, 2008 I know that you have claimed to be "middle of the road" when it comes to politics...But you still, after all these years, slant heavely to the right...Have you ever examined why? My claim is that I am a moderate conservative. That means I am a moderate that leans slightly right. The reason why I claim that is because I have taken several political position tests over the years and that is what they tell me. A political compass isn't just left to right. It also includes up and down. Up being Authoritarian and down being Libertarian. I always come out just to the right and just above the cross hairs of the compass. Quote Pastoral Family Counselor... Woody Posted February 17, 2008 Posted February 17, 2008 Quote: Greta Van Susteren If SHE heard you calling her a 'he' ... she might be offended Neil. She put plenty of 'plastic' in herself since coming to Fox. She was a regular on CNN during the Clinton mess. She strongly and stubbornly supported him against Monica and the impeachment trial. It was sick. Now she is on FOX. Please tell me why? But, she is the biggest Demo supporter you could imagine. I get sick every time I see her. I don't find her "fair and balanced". So, now you know. If she supported him, IN SPITE of Monica, that's one thing. If she supported his policys and his principles [minus Monica], that's well and good. If she supported Clinton/Monica affair, that is totally different. It sounds like, from you guys, that it is the latter case. And quite frankly, I am glad she's gone as a regular and is only available as a commentator. No one supported Bill's indescretion. But it was not, IMHO, a congressional issue to take up. And the media should not have made it into something that it was, and still is... Nevertheless, this lady is clumped into the same catagory as Geraldo...and she is as bent as he is...Foxnews know this, and is exploiding them for thier own benefit. And you guys, who support Foxnews, can't see this????? "fair and balanced", indeed! Amazing.... Quote Democracy is a device that ensures we shall be governed no better than we deserve. Dr. Shane Posted February 17, 2008 Author Posted February 17, 2008 Quote: FoxNews produces programing that reflect the republican principles, not because they are interested in reporting the news but because it produces money. This idea of FOXNews producing "Republican programming" comes from the extreme left. FOXNews hires commentators, some conservative and some liberal. The commentators that get the best ratings get the best time slots. That is business. It isn't about pushing an agenda, it is about making money. The other networks do the same thing. It only makes sense to put the programs with the best ratings into the best time slots. Quote Pastoral Family Counselor... Find me at www.PostumCafe.com Author of Peculiar Christianity
Neil D Posted February 17, 2008 Posted February 17, 2008 This idea of FOXNews producing "Republican programming" comes from the extreme left. This has been demonstrated over and over again on this board and elsewhere on the net....Foxnews is biased in it's reporting of the news. It strongly favors the republican agenda...To say otherwise, is to ignore the mountain of evidence.... You're reflecting extreme right-wing proproganda again, Shane...
