Are hybrids the way to control high gas prices?

Not directed to anyone.

Several years ago we decided to try out a Hybrid. So, on July 4, 2005, we purchased a Honda Civic Hybrid. We liked it so well that on January 2, 2006, we purchased our second. We have clearly cut our gasoline consumption more than in half. I am a high mileage driver and the savings add up. My wife also puts a fair amount of miles on the other car.

The battery in each of our vehicles is guaranteed for 80,000 miles, and is expected to last 100,000 miles.

All in all, it was a very good decesion that we made to purchase those two hybrids.

Hybrids are not for everyone. They have worked for us.

They are not the ultimate answer to all of the issues. But, for now they are a step in the right direction.

We have put more than 90,000 miles on the two cars. They are easy to drive. I have driven both at altitudes over 13,000 feet, and in the mountains. I have driven them on the highest altitude highway in the United States.

We have had no mechanical problems.

One is in the shop now due to an accident. Several thousand dollars in damage was done and with neither frame nor engine compartment damage. There are no problems in getting body shops to work on them.

I am driveing a non-hybrid rental car, Mazda-6, 2008. I am getting 28 MPG on it overall, city and highway. And, I wishing that I could get the mileage I was getting on my hybrid. 28 MPG does not come close.

My wife and I are quite satisfied.

Trains, trains, trains... Railroads are now becoming a more attractive way to ship because they are so much more efficient and cheaper. The railroad industry is now making plans to actually start laying new track for the first time in many years.
