This is no April Fools Joke. He was serious. Does anyone know where something wild like this would come from? Do they have ANY of the colored persuasion in their heritage? I don't know if there is proof, and I hadn't heard about James' heritage before. But even as a child, long before I heard others say it, photos of Ellen made me think she might have been of mixed race. But why would it matter anyway? To me it's one of those off-our-mission topics that we tend to get all excited about, and then we wonder why we spent so much time and energy on it. Quote LD

Some blacks feel that the Church was/is suppressing the truth that she was.. and it hurts them. Just like most pictures of Jesus show that he was British, or Scandinavian and he was part black, as his grandmother? great grandmother? was an Ethiopian. I would say if blacks want to believe she is black or that Jesus is black, let them believe it if it's important to them. I wouldn't even argue the point with them. It shouldn't matter what race either of them is. I'm sure Jesus doesn't care what color people view Him as having. Maybe that's why the Bible contains no physical description of him, beyond the ones in Revelation. Farrakhan, Black Muslims and the Nation of Islam believe on the basis of Rev. 1: 15 that Jesus is black, and so a lot of people believe it. They think Revelation is saying Jesus' feet were black, the color of brass burnt in fire. Of course that is a portrayal of Jesus as He is today, not as He was on this earth. I would be interested to know what your reference is to as far as Jesus' ancestry being part black is concerned. I noticed a long time ago that she seems to have black features in that particular picture. Of course the color in a b & w photograph is not important, as you can make a white horse look black and a black horse look white simpy by over- or under- exposing it. I think it's important to compare other photographs of Ellen White with that picture. If you do that, it seems plain to me that she didn't have black features. You know how just one picture of you may not be a very good likeness to you. I don't know of anyone who knew Ellen and James White really well who ever suggested that she or he were black.
