Reddogs Posted October 15, 2008 Posted October 15, 2008 Well this really makes you wonder how they can push this as there is no scriptural basis for them to refer to in encouraging Sunday worship.. "Pope Benedict XVI says your life depends upon worshiping on Sunday. “Sine dominico non possumus!” “Without Sunday [worship] we cannot live!” Pope Benedict xvi declared during a mass on September 9 at St. Stephen’s Cathedral in Vienna. Speaking on the final day of his three-day visit to Austria, the German pope voiced a strong call for Christians to revive Sunday keeping as an all-important religious practice. “Give the soul its Sunday, give Sunday its soul,” he chanted before a rain-soaked crowd of 40,000. Benedict said that Sunday, which he stated has its origin as “the day of the dawning of creation,” was “also the church’s weekly feast of creation.” Warning against the evils of allowing Sunday to become just a part of the weekend, the pope said people needed to have a spiritual focus during the first day of the week, or else leisure time would just become wasted time. Sunday worship, he warned, was not just a “precept” to be casually adhered to, but a “necessity” for all people......" http://uk.reuters.com/article/lifest...9?pageNumber=1 http://www.thetrumpet.com/index.php?q=1808.0.77.0 http://www.zenit.org/article-20457?l=english Quote

Moderators John317 Posted October 16, 2008 Moderators Posted October 16, 2008 I think his emphasis is on the need for a weekly rest which we would agree to. mel Yes, that is true. Problem is that we don't want a law enforcing either the Sabbath or Sunday, and the Pope does want such a law. If he would come out and say plainly that he is opposed to laws supporting Sunday, that would help. But the Catholic church campaigned for a Sunday law in Europe and got it passed recently. It goes into effect this coming year. Did you hear about it? Both this current pope and Pope John Paul II have urged the European states to pass Sunday legislation. Quote John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. [17] For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.

Moderators John317 Posted October 16, 2008 Moderators Posted October 16, 2008 There is a tension in the believer's view. The NT itself presents it. We are told to pray for peace so that the gospel can go to the world, yet we also pray for Christ to come, and we know He won't come without the church's passing through great persecution and trials. No one with a true conception of what will take place would look forward to going through the events that we're talking about. Quote John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. It was my understanding that it would begin in the U.S. (The Sunday Blue Law) Or is this not as serious? The Sunday law in a country in Europe should be a wake-up call for us, especially since it signals the intention of the Catholic Church, which was the main power behind the passage of the Sunday law. The Sunday law in the US will begin with laws passed locally and then work up to a National law. The law here is the most important because it is a sign of National Apostasy and tells us that Christ's coming is not far off. National Apostasy will lead to national ruin. Laws in Europe don't affect the US in that way. Quote John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. Laws in Europe don't affect the US in that way. The fact that the global economy has united enemies and friends on a scale never seen before has been largely missed by SDA's. Russia supplies most of Europes oil and gas, China supplies a large amount of what Americans consumers buy, Germany and Japan are some of the worlds biggest exporters, India has many companies that do the tech work for America, and of course if the United States stock market crashes and burns as it goes down, every other market follows as we saw. Its all one economy tied in together like a Gordian Knot, nothing can pull it apart or unravel it. Like Europe, the forces that control the laws are being centralized at meetings such the Group of 7/8 and other multination groups which can quikly act together in times of 'crisis' as you saw when all the major countries reduced their interests rates in a 'cordinated' move to bring 'stability' to the worldwide markets. As events happen which they feel can threathen the global stability they will act in concert as a united front, whether it be a economic event, Islamic terrorism, or a political or religious 'leader' who brings the world together with great 'ideas'..... Moderators John317 Posted October 18, 2008 Moderators Posted October 18, 2008 Yes, thanks, I just saw that on another Adventist forum where there's a thread about it. It will be interesting to see if other nations of Europe pass similar laws. It might depend on how it goes in Croatia. I know the Vatican would like to see it all over Europe. Quote John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. Excellent points, and of course that all dovetails perfectly with what we know will happen. We can see how prophecy will be fulfilled better now than ever before: how the world will act in concert, both economically and religiously. What we don't know is why the world will be united religiously, because prophecy says that all nations will be involved. Evidently they also will follow, but not necessarily because of conviction. They may follow out of necessity and convenience. On the other hand, we don't know the influence of the catastrophic events that will occur before that time. Certainly they will cause the world to believe its very existence and survival is at stake. And there's also the influence of spiritualism, which will no doubt be much stronger than we can imagine today. We are told that Satan will actually appear as an angel, and Ellen White also speaks of the influence of evil angels who will walk among us and spread their lies and create doctrinal confusion. We can expect the dead to make contact with the living and cause doubt about the correctness of the Bible, particularly regarding the Sabbath and the state of man in death, as well as the Second Coming. Quote John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. Reddogs Posted October 18, 2008 Author Posted October 18, 2008 Here is a analysis which I came across which is quite compelling and eye openning.... "...Pope Benedict XVI consolidates sweeping changes, reasserting the spiritual supremacy of the Vatican. "Pope Benedict XVI, is completing a significant theological shift of the Roman Catholic church – a sweeping change that not only eclipses 40 years of a more moderate and collegial Catholicism, but seeks to reassert the spiritual supremacy of the Vatican and more openly proclaim the authority of the office of pope among all Christians. Some.. years after taking the reins, say Protestant and Catholic theologians and religious experts, the Bavarian-born pope is moving swiftly to affirm orthodox doctrines and medieval church rituals that undermine the spirit of Vatican II, a period of modernization in which the church appeared to be rethinking its centuries-long insistence that it had exclusive claims to matters of grace, truth, salvation, and church structure in the Christian world. Liberal Catholics go so far as to characterize Benedict as leading a counterreformation in the church – in which fervent backers of traditional Catholic identity and faith are favored, even at the expense of popularity. "While Vatican II said that the Holy Spirit was in operation among the people, now we are saying, no, the holy spirit is operating in the bishops. It is an enormous change." says Frank Flinn, author of the "Encyclopedia of Catholicism." The "impression [previous Pope] John Paul II gave was to emphasize teaching so that all may be one. But Benedict is turning around and saying to churches, 'you aren't all one.' It is destroying the ecumenical movement....." "Benedict has fought for the same thing for 30 years and now he is putting it to work," says Frederic Lenoir, editor of Le Monde's religious supplement in Paris. "His main aim in being pope is to unify the true believer groups – and he will lose members or destroy religious dialogues, if that's what it takes." Benedict has stated his central mission is to restore the Catholic church in Europe and to bridge the gap with Eastern Orthodox churches that more closely share a traditional Catholic suspicion of modernity, the Enlightenment, the Reformation, pluralism, and secularism..... ....the Vatican issued "Regarding Certain Aspects of Church Doctrine." It argued that churches emerging from the Reformation outside the direct authority of Rome "cannot be called 'churches' in the proper sense." Protestants, in particular, "suffer from defects," are properly called communities, not churches, and must one day recognize "the Catholic church, governed by the successor of Peter and the bishops in communion with him" – a major affirmation of papal authority..... Many theologians say the shifts under Pope Benedict aren't simply a small matter of rules, rituals, clarifications, and a tidying up of doctrine. ..... Meanwhile, the church is in charge, the pope is the vicar of Christ, and the church has the full truth......" http://www.csmonitor.com/2007/0718/p01s05-lire.html?page=1 Quote
elsworth Posted October 18, 2008 Posted October 18, 2008 I agree with Reddog about the economic crisis and the nations of the world uniting in times of economic crisis, political uphevel or terrorism. I was listening to a christian radio station, and the commentator said, about the economy, that China wants a one money system if the US bailout package does not work.(paraphasing)...there was more said. Wow!!! Its true that many SDA members do not see what's happening around them. End time prophecy. SDA members believes in Ellen White's writings as a church guide, in relation to the word of God. There are alot of sunday pastors preaching "End Time Prophecy",economis crisis, global trouble, and we as SDA in the US seems to be the only one who do not get it.(my concept could be wrong) Sundays Laws has been passed in some former Soviet Union countries, just waiting to take effect.(Jan09). Europe is where persecution of the christians first took place.(history) The US has Sunday Laws on the books already. Some states are looking to impliment Sunday Laws...not so much yet, to go to church on sundays, but that stores, not be open on sundays and sporting events not to take place. Where according to them the fabric of the family is deterioating. They need God. The laws in Europe will definitely affect the US,especially the they want a one monetary system...don't you think? Members phkrause Posted October 18, 2008 Members Posted October 18, 2008 When I first moved up here in 73, I noticed that there where no tractor trailers driving on the highways, so I asked about that. I was told that they could not travel on sundays, in the past few years they have relaxed. But I still don't the amount of trucks traveling like other states. Also if you want your store open you have to have a permit or apply for one. When the holidays come around than the state allows store to be open more. Most blue laws are on the books and can easily be enforced at anytime or easily made to be law. pk Quote phkrause When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan.
