rush4hire Posted October 27, 2008 Posted October 27, 2008 This is a four part documentary about the Devil's music, called: "They Sold Their Souls for Rock 'n' Roll". I found it quite educational. But, it's a bit sordid, so be sure you have a strong stomach. Part 1 The Violence in Rock and Roll. 1. The first issue is music kids listen to in relationship to the school shootings in America. Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold, the kids that shot their fellow students in Columbine, had been listening to the most Satanic and violent music available. They even targeted those professing Christianity. KMFDM, one of their favorite bands, sings: "If I had a shotgun, I'd blow myself to hell", which is exactly what the two boys did after they shot their classmates. 2. Music and the conspiracy to gain control of the minds of our youth and revolutionize society. The rest talks about the powerful effect of music on the minds of people and influences people to do stuff. One time people started breaking stuff at Woodstock and there where multiple rapes and they made bon-fires which burned down alot of trailers. Here are the 4 steps the Communists have for the take over of any nation through intrigue: Part 1. Part 2 They Sold Their Souls. 1. Starts with talk about the exaltation of Satan in Rock music lyrics. 2. About Robert Johnson, said to be "the father of Rock and Roll", the first Rock and Roll artist who said he sold his soul to the Devil for music talent. He did this at the crossroads highways 49 and 61 in Clarksdale, Mississippi. These places where mentioned in several since then, along with the "hounds of hell" he said had been chasing him. 3. Alot of other singers tell in their lyrics, and in interviews, how they sold their souls to Satan. 4. Many admissions from artists, in interviews, about demon possession during performances. 5. From the peace sign to the Devil horns. From Elvis' gyrating pelvis to the modern themes of Rock music: Witchcraft and the occult, blasphemy, alcohol and drug addiction, murder, rape, adultery and fornication, violence, hatred, bestiality, suicide, and death. 6. The "innocent" sexual innuendo of modern music that targets young children. We see little girls singing Christina Agulera's "Genie in a Bottle" If you wanna be with me,baby, there's a price to pay, I'm a genie in a bottle, You gotta rub me the right way, Hormones racing at the speed of light My body is saying let's go I can make your wish come true Just come and set me free, baby, I'll be with you Quote I cant make a sig with 30 chrs
Moderators Bravus Posted October 27, 2008 Moderators Posted October 27, 2008 Good old selective reporting and fundamental misunderstandings shall be with you always. Just one example: Ozzy's 'Mr Crowley' is an *anti-Satanism* song - this presentation leaves out the line "Your lifestyle to me seems so tragic". There's heaps more distortion all over the presentation, but as with so many things, evidence seems irrelevant, so I'll leave it there. Quote Truth is important
Moderators Bravus Posted October 27, 2008 Moderators Posted October 27, 2008 Quote: 2. Then there's the fact that many of the Rock and Roll stars die young.-- Average age of death for Americans = 75.8 -- Average age of death for Rock stars = 36.9 Completely bogus. For a start there's the fact that rock has only been around for 50 years, so we don't know how long most rock stars will live. But even a very rough approximation shows how bogus that number is: Dead rock stars and age of death Elvis - 42 Jimi Hendrix - 28 Janis Joplin - 27 Richie Valens - 18 John Lennon - 40 Bon Scott (from AC/DC) - 34 Stevie Ray Vaughan - 36 Living rock stars and current age Mick Jagger - 65 Keith Richards - 65 (could include the rest of the Stones but you get the point) Ozzy Osbourne - 60 Lemmy (from Motorhead) - 63 Paul McCartney - 66 Malcolm and Angus Young (from AC/DC) - 55 and 53 Jerry Lee Lewis - 73 This is a sample selected with no agenda other than the ones I can remember, but as you can see, even if all the ones in the second half of the list died today, the average would be nowhere near 36.9 years... and they show no signs of doing so. If anyone can come in with maybe 10 rock stars who died when they were 4 years old, the average might get down there somewhere... Or else someone just averaged up that first list... and compared it to the age of death of *all* Americans. Which would be comparing two completely different things and be completely dishonest. God does not need or want you to lie for him Quote Truth is important

Taylor Posted October 28, 2008 Posted October 28, 2008 I think that Bravus’s point is that when programs are made they at least need to be accurate or they loose credibility. However there is no doubt that there is music that the devil blesses and lyrics that are full of Satanism. I have a friend, who is now a pastor, who in his younger years was a drummer in a rock group. He did an extensive research paper regarding rock music. Since he had the money to do so, he went to NY where several popular bands were congregating. Because my friend has a magnetic personality and is an incredible musician (he can play almost all the band instruments very well), he was invited to some private parties of several rock groups that were in the process of recording or releasing new albums. He attended several “séance’s” where they “prayed” that the devil would “bless their music” and “influence people” and “teach them how to be powerful”. I have no doubt to believe his story as I have known this man for about 25 years and he has always proven to be impeccably honest, now that he is an SDA. I know he wouldn’t make up this story. Quote

fccool Posted October 28, 2008 Posted October 28, 2008 This is what I would call a slanted stats. Most of the popular rock today will not contain the purely satanic lyrics like we find in early rock. Consider some of the modern hard rock bands, and try to pick them apart as Satanic... you might have hard time doing that. Some of the top rock bands of the 00s: Three Doors Down, Evanescence, P.O.D., Linkin Park, Switchfoot, Static X, Puddle of Mud, Creed... If you really listen to the lirycs, some of these will have deep concerns for the direction in which the world is going, expressing emotional loss and at times even hope. Here's a hard rock song for ya: Fumbling his confidence And wond’ring why the world has passed him by Hoping that he’s meant for more than arguments And failed attempts to fly, fly We were meant to live for so much more Have we lost ourselves? Somewhere we live inside Somewhere we live inside We were meant to live for so much more Have we lost ourselves? Somewhere we live inside Dreaming about providence And whether mice or men have second tries Maybe we’ve been livin with our eyes half open Maybe we’re bent and broken, broken We were meant to live for so much more Have we lost ourselves? Somewhere we live inside Somewhere we live inside We were meant to live for so much more Have we lost ourselves? Somewhere we live inside We want more than this world’s got to offer We want more than this world’s got to offer We want more than the wars of our fathers And everything inside screams for second life Isn't it just pure Satanism ? Quote
fccool Posted October 28, 2008 Posted October 28, 2008 Or this one... it's so Satanic, it makes me want to join the dark side: Please come now I think I'm falling I'm holding on to what I think is safe It seems I found the road to nowhere And I'm trying to escape I yelled back when I heard the thunder But I'm down to one last breath And with it let me say, let me say Hold me now I'm six feet from the edge and I'm thinking Maybe six feet Ain't so far down I'm lookin down now that it's over Reflecting on all of my mistakes I thought I found the road to somewhere Somewhere in His grace I cried out heaven save me But I'm down to one last breath And with it let me say, let me say Hold me now I'm six feet from the edge and I'm thinkin Maybe six feet Ain't so far down Sad eyes follow me But I still believe there's something left for me So please come stay with me 'Cause I still believe there's something left for you and me, For you and me For you and me Hold me now I'm six feet from the edge and i'm thinking Maybe six feet Ain't so far down Quote
Moderators Bravus Posted October 28, 2008 Moderators Posted October 28, 2008 Yep, most of those bands you cited, though rock, are explicitly Christian believers, and that comes through in their lyrics even if they are not necessarily identified as Christian bands. What does the 'all rock is evil' school have to say about Christian rock? Does Christian rock sanctify all rock, in the same way that a tiny minority of Satanic rock seems to be claimed to defile all rock? Or must each band and song be judged on its individual merits? Sure, Mercyful Fate (correct spelling of the band's name) sing Satanic songs, as do many of the Norwegian black metal bands. But that is very underground music. Can you honestly tell me you'd heard of Mercyful Fate before watching this video? So why is their fringe aesthetic and topical choice such a central part of the argument? Ozzy's music may portray but does not glorify Satan and evil: most of what he has written and sung has been warnings against evil. It is a myth that members of Black Sabbath are former SDAs. I'm by no means arguing that all rock music is good, any more than I'd argue that all movies or all books or all classical music is good (Paganini's witches, for example, portray evil in some of the same ways as rock). But it's ignorant to claim that all rock is evil simply because it's rock, or using some sort of guilt by association. And it's very unfortunate to make the case using lies or deeply misleading nonsense like that 'age of death' malarky. (If you want to say 'the rest haven't died', then you need to be comparing with the average age of all Americans, living and dead... which I suspect is pretty close to 36.9.) Quote Truth is important
Jaycee Posted October 28, 2008 Posted October 28, 2008 Honestly, I got no idea whether you sarcastic or not fccool. BUT just in case! I don't really know how anyone would classify the song by "Switchfoot - Ment to live" as satanic. What are you trying to get out of that particular song? I get that we were literally ment to live for so much more in life - There really isn't anything else to it. Personally, Switchfoot is my favorite band and they're music has really helped me get through a lot in life. Here is an interview with the Keyboardist from Switchfoot - http://www.cqbiblestudy.com/article.php?id=29 My favorite quote from the lead singer of Switchfoot "Christian by faith, not by genre." - Jon Foreman Really does speak for itself. But of course- Definitely, there are LOTS and LOTS of bands out there that are absolute rubbish.. I've been in the Marilyn Manson scene, i thought he was tops. That was up until I really listened to some of his lyrics and read about what he does at concerts - He is the epitome of evil. Quote If it's too loud then you must be too old.

Moderators Bravus Posted October 28, 2008 Moderators Posted October 28, 2008 To understand why Ozy would ask Crowley to 'ride his white horse' it's necessary to understand what that means - and the very next line of the song is 'it's symbolic of course'. I have no idea what it means, or whether it was just a play on Crowley's one penchant for obscure symbolism. Again, I think Ozzy spoke of Crowley as an interesting person, which he was, and that's not the same as condoning him or his works. Look, I'm not saying Ozzy is any kind of saint or good guy - he's a sad man who has fried his brain on drugs for decades. But the original use of the song was dishonest in what it tried to convey, by selective quoting. The members of the band did not all know one another growing up, and I'm pretty sure they didn't go to college at all - they were manual workers in industry in Birmingham. Tony Iomi, the guitarist, lost the tips of two fingers in an industrial accident. 'Sabbath' is originally a Jewish word, not an SDA one, and it had also been adopted by witches for their gatherings. There are a number of ways they could have come to it other than via SDAism. And yes, I believe the choice of 3 angels is an aesthetic choice of what 'works' for the particular image, rather than a specific reference to 'those' three angels. There are plenty of images around with three figures in them. I'm not a big fan of Black Sabbath, and don't know their music very well. As I've said, I accept that there is some very bad music out there that we should avoid for ourselves and steer our kids away from. The difference is that (a) I think it is more honest and more effective to point out the bad stuff but acknowledge that there is also good stuff out there and ( I am very resistant to the use of lies and distortions to make a true point. Let's use the truth when telling the truth. Quote Truth is important
Moderators Bravus Posted October 28, 2008 Moderators Posted October 28, 2008 Here's the story Wikipedia has for the band's name: "While playing shows in England in 1969, the band discovered they were being mistaken for another English group named Earth, and decided to again change their name. A movie theatre across the street from the band's rehearsal room was showing the 1963 Boris Karloff horror film Black Sabbath." Quote Truth is important

fccool Posted October 29, 2008 Posted October 29, 2008 Quote: Honestly, I got no idea whether you sarcastic or not fccool. I certainly was sarcastic, as I do enjoy many songs by switchfoot, and POD likewise. Some SDA ministries play these quite often, despite the criticism. We need to speak with the world in the language they understand, while still maintaining the boundaries of God's word. Contemporary music can certainly do that. Quote

rush4hire Posted October 29, 2008 Author Posted October 29, 2008 To understand why Ozy would ask Crowley to 'ride his white horse' it's necessary to understand what that means - and the very next line of the song is 'it's symbolic of course'. I have no idea what it means, or whether it was just a play on Crowley's one penchant for obscure symbolism. It's obvious to me that he was exalting Crowley. This "symbolic of course" and "seemed so tragic" stuff is to make it all the more deceptive. It's the old bait and switch move. 1. That other song by Ozzy started like a love song and then it switches and says: "Look into my eyes, you will see who I am, my name is Lucifer, please take my hand" 2. In the song, "My Sweet Lord", you hear "Hallelujah.. Hallelujah", and then it switches to "Hari Krishna.. Hari Krishna.. Krishna Krishna.. Hari Hari.." There are many examples of this. It's the oldest trick in the book. And such singers as Ozzy have everything set up for them, so he can tell the media he doesn't worship the Devil, then he can tell his fans "I lied to the media. Nevermind that. I really do worship the Devil." There's no code of conduct. Devil worshipers are under no obligation to tell the truth. They can lie whenever it serves their interests. They can talk out of both sides of their mouth. In fact, their god, Janus, encourages them to do just that: (that's in the Vatican, btw) And if they want to be successful, they have to do whatever it takes for their lyrics to be accepted by the masses, but they will channel whatever message Satan wants to get across, because that's part of the deal. You might say it's softened down now. If it has, it's because the Devil's agenda has had the desired affect on our culture. The Devil's wrath is appeased. He's not giving us a break. He's enjoying his success. -- Now our children are taught they are animals and that the Bible is a joke, in our government funded, public schools. -- Now children believe it's normal to start having sex as soon as possible. -- The traditional families are few and far between. -- Now homosexuality is glorified. -- Now drugs are glorified. -- Now witchcraft is glorified on TV and in movies. And all this still comes out in the music. Now, we are just used to it. All civilizations rise and fall. This is nothing new. These advancements of the enemy mark a major step in the downfall of our civilization. Quote I cant make a sig with 30 chrs

Guest Bruno Posted October 29, 2008 Posted October 29, 2008 Do you think it's even REMOTELY possible that rock stars will say anything to sell an album? Even claim to worship satan? Or God? When you are talking about people who sell things for a living, and all musicians sell their music to put bread on the table, you are dealing with people who will do what's necessary to get that album sold. Don't you thinik that maybe, just maybe, they might say something controversial in a song, just to make waves? You know the old saying "there is no bad publicity", well that certianly holds true for this set of artists. When you fan the flames, you help them sell albums. Look at Marilyn Manson. His record sales went thru the roof when he made national news over controversial lyrics and on stage actions. It really doesn't matter if he does or does not worship anything. You give him the power he wants when you make a big stink about it. When you post inflammatory statements about "rock bands", and get other parents all exicted about things they don't even know about, it helps their children want that album even more. Maybe you would be better served by actually finding things out about that group yourself, with real, factual knowledge, and then talking to your children in a reasonable manner, and not just burning their Cd's becuse you think they are satanic. Just some random thoughts on the matter, your results may differ. Quote
