Woody Posted November 10, 2008 Posted November 10, 2008 Neil. Did you 'come to the church in the Wildwood'? If I were you ... I would stick with the Redwoods. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.
rush4hire Posted November 11, 2008 Posted November 11, 2008 Pharisees were meticulous... Again, Jesus never rebuked people for being meticulous. He rebuked them for neglecting the weightier things of the law. Neglecting those things, is not meticulous. It's sloppy. He also rebuked them for setting aside one of the 10 commandments, in a subtle way. In this regard, Jesus was meticulous. He wouldn't have any part of an organization that said you need to Honor your Mother and Father, unless you want to take the money you would otherwise use to help them in their old age, and give it to the church. That's pretty sneaky. That's exalting the traditions of men above the commandments of God, and Jesus would have no part of it. I think alot of people who claim to love Jesus, would call Him a "legalist", back when He wasn't popular. The "anything goes" churches, today, call Adventists "legalists", just for keeping the Ten Commandments and teaching others to do so, just like Jesus said to do. Quote I cant make a sig with 30 chrs

Jesus was known as a wine bibber because He associated with those who already felt isolated from God. Pharisees accused Him of that. Your example of placing men's traditions over God's is non-sequitar. Jesus dealt with obvious flaws, not whether you were boiling the kid in the mother's milk. [which is also a law]. Do you not know the difference between pharasee's leven and obvious grace....? Adventists, who are called "legalist", don't minister to the emotional person. They make moutains out of molehills because they are too picky...or "meticulous", to quote you. They don't deal with grace. They deal in justice, and justify themselves before man and God. As a result, they make all Adventists stink. Don't get me started on this Rush. This is one of MY soapboxes. And I spare no one in this area....you least of all.... Jesus said you should tithe the herbs, but don't neglect the things that are even more important than that. There are plenty of good, faithful Adventists who are absolutely by the book on every counsel, and win lots of souls to Christ. In fact, living by that counsel helps you win souls. That's why it's given. But that's just it...The jews were forgeting the weighter matters because they were paying attention to the law. They could not see the forest because of the trees. They needed to step back and evaluate just what God was trying to say, and follow His principles.... the human mind can only pay attention to so many things and then it goes and does some pretty stupid things.... As for being faithful to meticulous things that help you to win souls, are you doing so to be an oddity or because it's superior rational reasoning? Most people respond to superior rational reasoning....Especally if they don't have to wear bible verses on their foreheads, or hands...counting steps on the Sabbath, and other things of similar nature to prevent them from breaking God's law.
