Moderators Bravus Posted December 16, 2008 Moderators Posted December 16, 2008 The difference is that 'once saved always saved' means that people can't choose to reject Christ and lose their salvation: you're correct to challenge that belief. But that's not what the 'yoyo' thing is talking about. That's not about our own choice to accept Jesus or not yoyoing back and forth, it's about this idea that every time we sin, even a tiny bit (and true, there are no tiny sins, they *all* require a Saviour and a sacrifice), we drop out of being saved until we confess, repent and seek forgiveness. That's what I mean. If I happen to be too focused on changing the tune on my iPod and snub someone in a way that hurts them and was an example of selfishness, I have sinned, and according to that belief system if I then walk in front of a bus and die I go to hell because I had not yet confessed and repented of that sin and sought forgiveness. *That's* what I meant about it being just luck that determines which side of the line we're on when we die, and I believe *that* doctrine - which is *not* the opposite of 'once saved always saved' is the doctrine that is repugnant, but too frequent in Adventism. A correct understanding of the Investigative Judgment exposes the falsity of both "once saved always saved" AND "the yoyoing back and forth." Neither the Bible nor the Spirit of Prophecy teach those concepts. Quote John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. [17] For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.
Moderators Bravus Posted December 16, 2008 Moderators Posted December 16, 2008 I know that (although still the whole 'without a mediator' thing seems awfully like it to me): this thread is not about what is doctrinally correct, but about things that only SDAs know. And lots of SDAs know this one, even if it's wrong. Quote Truth is important

Yes, you're right, and it's a too-common misunderstanding, like you say. Moderators LynnDel Posted December 16, 2008 Moderators Posted December 16, 2008 The little window of time just before sunset on Friday evening when one really should not call a friend because the friend may be doing a rush vacuuming of the living room, taking out the trash, doing last-minute dusting, ironing a Sabbath shirt, etc., with one eye on the western sky. The phrase, "If it weren't Sabbath, I'd ask you how much your car cost, who you have do your taxes," etc. Why it is considered healthful to avoid anything containing an ounce of chicken fat on any occasion, but perfectly okay to eat three scoops of ice cream on a weekly basis. OK, sorry about those. Will start a list of positive things! Quote LD
kayyak Posted December 19, 2008 Posted December 19, 2008 Most people don't think Adventist dance. Adventist do understand dancing. We do dance and often. Example: Baptist, "are you saved?" Adventist, "ah, um, squirm, ah um sqirm, rolls eyes like they are really getting down to some kind of music, ah um squirm." It's called the SDA Sidestep. Quote

Robert Posted December 20, 2008 Posted December 20, 2008 And don't forget that a broach isn't a piece of jewelry. This SDA rule states that, "Anything you hang on your clothing is okay, just don't put it on your ears, neck or finger." Got that? teehe Quote
