(this is a thread idea from another forum, where it's up over 32,000 posts)

Cassie turned 18, and we gave her a surprise party. She also got her Grade 12 results, and did well enough to get into the uni course she wants to do, so it was a double celebration.

Today I thought "What a shame it is to have an iPhone (on ATT) YET having to have a back up Verizon phone for important calls"

ATT has more bars in more places and more dropped calls.

If you receive benefit to being here please help out with expenses.

Today I woke up with a migraine. Now I'm sitting here watching it snow, snow, snow. But the day has barely started for me. Things could change.

Happy Sabbath all. Got up and snow blowed from 6-8 am. Went to sabbath school, saw a friend and his daughter walking home so I picked them up and drove them the rest of the way. And now it looks like I'll have to snow blow somemore.

We had a lovely day--temp was up to about 80. At church we had a Christmas program, full of music, mostly singing. The youngest was about four, and sang "Away in a Manger" with an adult group as backup. The oldest is probably in their 70's. There was also some congregational singing, and instrumentals. It was wonderful!! The last song was "Silent Night," with a lady soloist who really doesn't need a microphone. As the last note ended, and the singing stopped, the sound rang throughout the church. I received a blessing. . .

Today as I am reading this thread, I realize I still have snow envy. I don't think it will be a white Christmas. We went to Sabbath School this morning, and then this afternoon we read another chapter of "Though a Thousand Shall Fall", I got to the part where the mom had to make different arrangements for each of her children incase she didn't come back from a meeting with the head of the Nazi party. The children each knew their routes to safety but couldn't tell each other about them, so that if one was caught they couldn't tell about the others. This part made me cry and thank GOD that I have never lived in a country where I would have to make such arrangements.

The children had a Christmas play for the second service in church today.

We also had our first guests after-church dinner in our new house we just finished building and moved into 6 wks ago. Still have lots of boxes in the basement.

Just spent an hour on the treadmill that was just delivered yesterday. Too cold to be walking outside now.

It was a blessed Sabbath here for me today. I attended my home church for the first time in a month [had spent the last three Sabbaths at my children's churches, while visiting at their homes]. The tall Christmas tree decorated with tiny white lights, and the wreaths and garlands across the wall behind the choir, and the Nativity Candles by the pulpit, all spoke of the true meaning of Christmas. The pastor's sermon was about getting excited about JESUS, rather than being lackadaisical Christians. The choir had two beautiful anthems, the organ was powerful, as always, and my spirit was refreshed.

Seeing so many of my friends at church again on this co-o-old day [cold for our part of the country, at least].... I was moved to thank God again for His many blessings.

Read the REVIEW in the afternoon, and then another two chapters of my Bible. By that time the day was almost over.

Tomorrow (Dec. 21) is the shortest day of the year. Starting Dec. 22, the daylight hours begin to get longer again.

Thank God the days are getting longer, that means summer is going to be here in another 6 months. Happy Chanukah!

Yesterday now, but still...

We used to love going to Chili's restaurants in Canada, and their chocolate molten lava cake is our favourite desert ever. There are hardly any of them in Australia, but we'd seen one in Paramatta last time we were in Sydney, so we planned to go to it on the trip down as a treat.

Looked up the address quickly on the web at Dad's place, but due to my ignorance of western Sydney geography looked up the Penrith rather than Paramatta branch. That took us maybe 20 km further west than we needed to go, and some map-reading issues meant we got a fairly extensive tour of the back roads around Penrith. Eventually made it to the address, famished, only to find the restaurant boarded up! A later web check found out what we should have discovered earlier: all 5 of the Australian Chili's restaurants closed, under a cloud of underpaying their staff, in March this year...

Ah well, it was a small adventure... and we'll just have to wait until our next trip to Canada to enjoy Chili's.

Today we're enjoying dd's 1st day of vacation...hmm. Well, I'm enjoying it anyway--she's sick. Also, I fixed our vertical blinds that had been of the "snaggle-tooth" variety for 5+ years! Woot!!

Well now I want molten cake and I'm snowed in. beg

OK, Yesterday my town and nearby city declaired a state of emergency because of the storm and all the snow. And those of you who live in heavy snow areas don't laugh. We don't get weather like this so the state/cities don't have the equipment like you do.

Anyway, My boss calls and says that the trucks will be going out today to deliver so I had to do my stores tomorrow (wednesday). I said I am still burried and didn't think I could get out. She got all angry and said to get off my a_ _ and dig myself out. Well I don't have a shovel. She said to walk to the ^@)(&%@ store and buy one. Sad to say I don't have chains or studded tires or even winter tires. Just plain ole tires. How am I going to drive on packed snow and ice with those? So now she is all [censored] because she got to the office and other people got to the office and I was the biggest wuss ever. Needless to say I am about this far from telling her to go jump in a frozem lake. I have a little car. Not an SUV. Not a truck. No 4wd. Nada.

Just how demanding can a company be?

Did she-bear finally acquiesce and tell you it was too dangerous for you to drive in??

If we all sang the same note in the choir, there'd never be any harmony.

Funny, isn't it, how we accept Grace for ourselves and demand justice for others?
