sola scriptura? I ask again... is it a sin to not work on Sunday? Are we required to work 6 days a week or just permitted to work 6 days a week?...mel

Nothing wrong with working on Sunday, or not working. It may soon be against to work on Sunday.

I prayed for twenty years but received no answer until I prayed with my legs.

Topic is supposed to be Sunday Law...Fact or Fiction. Supposedly "THE SUNDAY LAW" universal and worldwide. To deduce THAT from scripture alone requires a creative imagination..Again I suggest that it would have to be an ANTI-SATURDAY law to be a factor in the supposed persecution. Then you have to bring in all of the Jews and many other Saturday keepers on the side of the "beast". So altogether I have to say "fiction" but only time will settle the issue definitively...mel

No, we're not required to work 6 days out of the week. God gave us six days for our own work; that is, six days on which we can work to provide for ourselves and our families. The seventh-day is devoted to God. It doesn't mean we have to work for a living each of those days. What it means is that those six days are for us to do as we please. We could use one of those work days for spending with our families if we wanted. We could also worship God on any of those six days, in addition to worshipping on the seventh day. So, when they make a law which says we can't work on Sunday but may do religious activities on it, there won't be anything wrong with doing good works on that day. It would be a good day for study, preaching, prayer and praising God.

Ellen White wrote:

Quote:
When we devote Sunday to missionary work, the whip will be taken out of the hands of the arbitrary zealots who would be well pleased to humiliate Seventh-day Adventists. When they see that we employ ourselves on Sunday in visiting the people and opening the Scriptures to them, they will know that it is useless for them to try to hinder our work by making Sunday laws. Counsels for the Church (1991), page 318, paragraph 1; Chapter Title: Chapter 57 - Our Relations to Civil Rulers and Laws

However, when they tell us that we must not keep the Sabbath but must work on it, and when they say we can't teach the truth about Sunday and the Sabbath, we won't be able to obey them. Eventually that's what will happen. Satan is determined for force people to disobey God and his ultimate plan is to destroy those who choose to obey all of God's commandments.

John 3:16-17

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. [17] For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.

I contemplate this topic a lot. I look at it from all angles. Quite often I am baffled by it all. I mean, it does seem absurd that a national sunday law could be passed in the USA. But then I've lived long enough to see quite a lot of individual freedoms sacrificed in the name of combating terrorism.

I try to engage people that I work with, none adventists, into discussing this issue. It is hard to get them to take the bait, so to speak. The whole idea is so far out and absurd to them. That is another reason I have faith in christianity. I mean, after seeing so much apathy to the subject monday thru friday, then to show up at church and see a whole congregation of people that believe this. It's a miracle. It is hard to explain.

Two related Items to consider. The rise of this country, with its constitution and bill of rights is nothing but divine providence in action. Still, this country has only been around for 200 plus years. Yet is is the bastion of democratic freedoms. there are strong forces in the world, that are are opposed to the idea of individual rights, and personal freedoms. these powers, or should I say this power, has thousands of years experience in manipulating governments and countries.

Another item to consider is God is not the author of confusion. He is also all knowing. Certain passges in bible prophecy, like rev 13 & 14 have a meaning. God didn't have that written just to befuddle people. the interpretation of prophecy that is taught by this church is the clearest, and most logical explanation I've come across. I've kept myself open minded enough to consider other interpretations. None of them, IMO, come close.

The Bible says that the whole earth will follow after the beast, and that everyone on earth will worship it, with the exception of those whose names are written in the Lamb's book of life. (Rev. 13: 3, 8, 16) If the mark has anything to do with Sunday-- and I believe it does-- then that means the entire world will somehow be brought to the place where everyone on earth will be required to honor Sunday. Just how that will happen we don't know, but the Spirit of Prophecy, together with the Bible, gives us some indications.

I think what's forgotten is that unless a person has a clear understanding of the Sabbath/Sunday issue, people are not likely to see any purpose in martyrdom for the sake of keeping the Sabbath. But we know that by that time, the Three Angels' Messages will reach everywhere on earth, and therefore everyone will have heard of the falseness of Sunday and of the truth about the Sabbath. The true gospel will be proclaimed under the power of the Holy Spirit in a way that it hasn't been proclaimed since Pentecost. So people such as the Jews will certainly hear and have a choice to make, just as all of us will.

I agree with you here, very strongly. Despite the serious flaws in our country, God certainly had His hand in our founding, in our prosperity, and in the freedom of religion that we've enjoyed. I believe our primary purpose as a nation is the spreading of the gospel throughout the world, which is the whole reason for our freedoms and our wealth.

It's amazing to think, also, that Ellen White wrote in the 1850s and 60s that the US would eventually become the single most influential nation on earth, and this nation would help the Papacy to experience a return to great power. When she said this-- based, of course, on Bible prophecy, but also on her visions-- the US was not a great country by world standards, and the Papacy was all but irrelevant and a only shadow of what it had once been.

Good research. Bad GIGANTISM, in sizing your post. Gigantism is inherently and organically defective whether in nature or in letters. It is also anetiquette and not well-received. It, further, bears the appearance of a shrill several octaves beyond reach – creating that ‘fingernails on chalkboard effect’. I think that the respect and gravitas naturally yours – sustains loss with that affectation. That opined, let me say,

I cannot bring myself to further post to the thread as it is situated in Townhall. The tangential subject, as it has emerged, belongs in such as “What Seventh-day Adventists Believe” or “Bible Theology”; further, it demeans the subject to be so lost among the varied and sundry topics that find their way to the Townhall board. Lastly,

meaningful (imho) topics fall off this board – much too quickly...

Should the emergent topic of this thread make its appearance on the above-mentioned boards – I shall probably find myself interacting... insufficiently or otherwise, as may be.
