cricket Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 Hiking with only two of my friends to a remote waterfall near Puerto Vallarta; parasailing on the beach at Puerto Vallarta; snorkeling off the shores of Paradise Island. But none of those was near as daring, nor as adventurous as the poor chap who was caught riding his bicycle over a bridge in Puerto Vallarta while a local tour bus was driving opposite him. There must have been a miracle there somehow. Quote
GreatLakesGramma Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 I drove all the way to Florida alone (about 1000 miles), spent a week and half hiking trails and taking pictures, also alone, then drove back. Boring I know, but it was an adventure to me. Kind of scary too, since there was no one along the way I knew that I could call on for help if my car broke down. I didn't have a cell phone either. Moderators Nan Posted January 8, 2009 Moderators Posted January 8, 2009 OK there needs to be a secondary thread for amplification of the single sentence answers! My answer is probably going to Karachi Adventist Hospital to work, only my second year out of med school. Quote

Moderators LynnDel Posted January 8, 2009 Moderators Posted January 8, 2009 Quote: In one sentence, what is the most adventurous thing you have done? On purpose, or by default? Either way, I can't decide. No great adventures, but... a) was born to missionary parents and spent the first 28 years of my life as part of the "great Advent movement" (i.e. never long in one place) married c) raised kids d) tried farming for fun and profit; ended up with neither, but learned a lot d) traveled to eastern Ukraine, used squat pots for a week e) went on a cruise without knowing a single fellow cruiser (at the beginning of the trip, anyway) Quote LD
Moderators John317 Posted January 8, 2009 Moderators Posted January 8, 2009 I dropped out of college in my freshman year and for the next eight months I hitch-hiked and road freight-trains from Los Angeles to New York and back. Quote John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. [17] For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.
Members rudywoofs (Pam) Posted January 8, 2009 Members Posted January 8, 2009 The most adventurous thing I ever did was take photos of Spandau Prison in West Berlin where Rudolf Hess was imprisoned. I was with a bunch of other students and everyone surrounded me while I snapped picture after picture with everyone's camera. It was verboten at the time. I was the only one stupid enough to do it. Amelia Posted January 9, 2009 Posted January 9, 2009 Quote: In one sentence, what is the most adventurous thing you have done? Not sure about what "the most" is; but when I was in high school I was quite daring. Did things I probably wouldn't do today. One of which was caving. I'm not talking about the kind of caves you pay a fee and walk through. I'm talking about the kind where much of the time you are on your belly worming your way through to the other side. Sorry, couldn't do it in one sentence. GreatLakesGramma Posted January 9, 2009 Posted January 9, 2009 Amelia, all you would have had to do was use semicolons or dashes instead of periods, and you could have gotten it all into one sentence. teehe Quote Catherine God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever. nuff sed Posted January 9, 2009 Posted January 9, 2009 Hauling a wife and three kids to live in five different countries in service for the church. Catching a King Cobra that was chasing some children was sort of adventurous. ( In Borneo.....She was just defending her nest.......which had 30 eggs in it..............which I stole......) Quote

Dottie Posted January 10, 2009 Posted January 10, 2009 Marrying a dope-smoking, alcoholic, wife-beating teenager and living in 22 different places in 18 months, one of which was a car with a six-month-old baby during February in sub-freezing weather. No, that wasn't adventurous, just stupid. Quote
Robert Posted January 10, 2009 Posted January 10, 2009 My friend & I riding our dirt bikes through a suburb of Dayton one evening in 1979 and being chased by over 12 police cars including a couple sheriffs and one State patrol. It got exciting.. Been there, done that...except you had more cops chasing you. Have you tried going about 60MPH down the center of a railroad track on a dirtbike? If so did you do it on a bridge where you couldn't get off if a train was coming? Been there, did that and I wasn't scared because I was too stupid to be scared. Rob Quote

CyberGuy Posted January 10, 2009 Posted January 10, 2009 Going the mission field in West Africa as a mission kid. Hunting a green snake but it got away but not before we got a look at it..... Green snake with a yellow tail... Green Mamba the most poisonous snake in africa. You die in 10 minutes if you are bit. Coming face to face with a 12 foot croc with its mouth wide open. I yelled and pointed at it to my friend but the croc dived into the pond with a big Splash. Croc was 60 feet away. Not that far away. Those things are man eaters. Nearly stepping on what I thought was crab. Turns out it was a 8 inch long scorpion. The biggest one I have ever scene since. That was in Africa. Looking over the lip of Half Dome in a little crevice on the lip and realizing I was on a decline with sand underneath my feet and it was 2000 feet straight down on some nasty looking rocks. I edged back SLOWLY and climbed back head first back into the crevice. I was 17. Not very smart then. Risk taker I was. Quote Riverside CA

ChildofChrist Posted January 10, 2009 Posted January 10, 2009 While I have done some stupid things in the last ...ty years, there are few times I would have said it was an adventure... like swimming with baracuda. I would say that simply awaking each morning and waiting to see what the Lord has in store for me; tends to be adventurous enough for me these days. Quote Wakan Tanka Kici Un ~~Child of Christ~~
Marie Posted January 10, 2009 Posted January 10, 2009 Well, I'm going back a long ways here, but I recall shortly after getting married I went riding with my husband then on his dirt bike. He loved to go spinning in the dirt and get me really scarred. (I'm not a good on balance wise) I begged him to stop but he refused. This was the second sign I had that I had made a big mistake. But with most mistakes, God can bless. And from our seven year marriage we had three of the most wonderful children. I'm so blessed and happy to have them. Thank God for such blessings in the light of my stupid mistake. Quote In His Love, Marie
