Lineman Posted January 26, 2009 Posted January 26, 2009 all the thousands upon thousands (or is it millions upon millions?) I kind of think it will be way beyond trillions and trillions even. There's something like 300,000,000,000 stars just in our galaxy. If each one has only one inhabited planet that's 300 billion planets just in our own galaxy and there are trillions and trillions of galaxies out there. (I'm getting tired of trying to think that big. My brain is starting to fry.) Quote Visit and Share the BibleTimelines.com URL ! (Explain the Gospel in just a few minutes, or maybe even seconds.)

Moderators Bravus Posted January 26, 2009 Moderators Posted January 26, 2009 I think the thread opening question needs to be clearer. (Yeah, I probably should have said something before Page 4!) Is it 'Does God speak English?' - as one tongue among many, or is it really 'Does God speak only or mainly English?' Quote Truth is important
Stan Posted January 26, 2009 Author Posted January 26, 2009 Part of the background to my question, had to do with the folks who have claims about praying to God using his Hebrew name only.. I told them that I could not respond to them unless they call me by my name as pronounced in it's original language. Things went south from there. In response to this, we had on hand at the store a Bible translated from the Aramaic that uses the name "Jesus" to address the Saviour. I had one customer who was so elated to find such a Bible that he practically danced out the store with his treasure. He had encountered the same mindset. Remember, Aramaic was the language that Jesus Himself (and His family) spoke during his life on Earth. So it's totally feasible that they called him exactly that- Jesus. Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.

Quote: Yeshua is the original Aramaic proper name for Jesus the Nazarene, who lived from about 6 B.C.E. to 27 C.E. (A.D.) The word "Jesus" is actually a mis-transliteration of a Greek mis-transliteration. It was indeed his proper name, And there was no real difficulty in transcribing this same first vowel into English. from Jesus real name in Aramaic Quote Pam Meddle Not In the Affairs of Dragons; for You Are Crunchy and Taste Good with Ketchup. If we all sang the same note in the choir, there'd never be any harmony. Funny, isn't it, how we accept Grace for ourselves and demand justice for others?
Administrators Gail Posted January 26, 2009 Administrators Posted January 26, 2009 I stand corrected- thanks, Pam. Jesus would be the English translation. If you look at Bible translations in different languages, the names of the books of the Bible are in their respective languages according to the language used in translating the version. Hence, Peter becomes Pierre in the French and Pedro in the Spanish. Is there a problem with that?
