Amazon Kindle / Kindle 2 eBook

Recommended Posts

I am seriously considering purchasing a Kindle eBook.

I contacted the White Estate by email to ask if they were planning to make the SOP writings available in a Kindle-type format? I received no answer.

There are quite a few versions of the Bible available for the Kindle.

My question: Is there anyone out there in forum land that has a Kindle? If you are one, I'd like to know if you were able to load spiritual books, etc on yours.

Thx

There are all kinds of EGW books on amazon for Kindle at 80 cent each..

Woudl appreciate it if you purchased them, and the kindle through amazon link here.

I am eager to know how you like that, as I am thinking about it as well.

If you receive benefit to being here please help out with expenses.

My teacher got one. I consider it a rip-off. Or... I can just learn on how to hack the e-books so I can get what ever book I want for free. Also if I did know how I would still wait on getting one so they can add more features to it like full internet capability.

We're considering purchasing a couple of these for our home: to eliminate the book clutter in our home, and to make carrying books in a back-pack much easier.

Aubery,

By one later when they improve them.

Cosmin, please spell my name correctly.

The Kindle 2 is a much improved version of the original Kindle--this is why we're considering the purchase now.

Oh. Ok.

Sorry for misspelling your name.

Could someone please explain this to me? I guess I am being very dense today, and I can't seem to figure out exactly how it works. Does it read the books to you? Like an audio book? Or do you have to read the words on it like a very small computer screen?

I am just not getting how this works.

I'm hoping that the Review & Herald will begin putting their latest books into Kindle format. It is something I am working on, because this is definitely the wave of the future.

Thanks Aubrey, I had to watch that little movie three times, before I caught on that it actually does both. How Cool!!!! Now I want one.

We could always ask.

This is very encouraging. There are so many times I wished I had the ability to have more than one version of the Bible along with SOP writings with me in SS and Worship services, in conversations with folks and when in 'down time' when I could access so much info in an easy-to-read and navigate format.

With the 1500 book capacity of the K2, I will be a research freak above what I am now (scary thought). I'm looking at an April purchase and my wish list would include:

** The full Bible Commentary Set

** The complete writings of Mrs White

** Strong's Concordance

Cosmin, you do realize that that is stealing, don't you?

O.o

Never thought of it like that. Normally, my opinion is if I did realize it would be stealing my reply would have been me saying something like they are rip offs any ways so why not get them for free. But now I realize it still is stealing. -.-

Not dumb, Cosmin. Just carried along on the tide of popular practise, and maybe never really thought about it for yourself. Many Christians much older than you still haven't gotten it. Some of them don't want to.

And Cosmin, you are still very young. Don't feel bad about all you don't understand. It takes time. So long as you learn as you go, you will be doing well.

I absolutely positively want one of these. BUT the price point is a HUGE drawback. I know it should pay for it'self over the long run.... bigsigh

I prefer to read ebooks on my laptop, not some tiny little screen. I have the Bible on my pocket PC, but I don't like reading it there. It's too limiting of how much can be shown at once. I just don't like that at all. But at least I can easily find any Bible verse I want at any time.

The screen display is about the size of a paperback page.

That wouldn't be so bad, then.

I am told they will display PDF also. One troubling thin is that publishers can disable the text to speech feature. But if the EGW books and Bible commentary and Naves and Strongs and... ewait maybe I am getting to excited.

The screen display is about the size of a paperback page.

The Sony readers I've seen at Borders have a "book-like" quality to the screen. That is to say the text is as easily readable as is a regular paperback book.

Personally, I think the only real disadvantage to owning one is the inflexibility of use. I like to write in my books (annotating and high-lighting text), and I often ear-mark pages of interest or import. This will become difficult to do with a digital book.
