Taylor Posted March 8, 2009 Author Posted March 8, 2009 Thanks everyone...am far from home on a very slow internet connection but wanted to say thanks for all your prayers, love, support, hugs etc. It has been much appreciated. The doctor said that Mom should have died within a few minutes of the stroke. On Tuesday he saw her and she was completely comotosed and wasn´t moving anything or reacting to anything. She is now moving her legs, shoulders etc but am not sure she hears me when I talk to her. However. on Friday her respirations were 2 per minute and 10 from the machine. Yesterday they were between 7 and 12 per minute with the machine still at 10 so that is good. God has been here with us through all of this. We are never alone. And dear friends have really helped as well...both here and back at home. Thanks so much!! Quote

Stan Posted March 9, 2009 Posted March 9, 2009 Just talked with Taylor It seems like her Mom has had some responses, such as a tear when her husband had to leave to room. She was able to be off the respirator for a few moments, but it was taking too much strain to stay off. Most of us have known Taylor for a long time, and she needs our prayers, having this incident happen in Venezuela adds to the difficulty of the whole thing. The alertness from a scale of 1-15 was 3 now it is now 8 An Adventist MD from another Hospital has connected. he is cautiously optimistic. She needs our prayers.. tough times, some are tougher than others. QUESTION from Taylor.. Her limbs are very stiff ANYONE can understand why why that is? Depending on which part of the brain had the stroke, it can cause paralysis, or spasticity. Spasticity is tight, stiff muscles that make movement, especially of the arms or legs, difficult or uncontrollable. Characteristics of the condition can include any of the following: a tight fist, bent elbow, arm pressed against the chest, stiff knee and/or pointed foot that can interfere with walking. These long periods of forceful contractions in major muscle groups can cause painful muscle spasms. The spasms produce a pain similar to athletic cramping. Once she gets a little better and more stable they will need to do physical therapy. I hope this answers her question. And let her know that we are still praying. Am in an aiport with brief connection time then off again. Many tough decisions in the future for my parents...not fun but God is good and I couldn't handle it without him.
