Members phkrause Posted March 9, 2009 Members Posted March 9, 2009 I have a few friends that work there, Wilton and Sylvia Clarke. Also I think there 3 kids went and graduated from there. My wife also graduated from there a Number of years back. Also Warren Halvorsen was dean of men there at one time. So we kind of have a little bit of a connection there. Wasn't there a shooting there a little while ago or was it LLU? pk Quote phkrause When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan. Proverbs 29;2
Neil D Posted March 9, 2009 Posted March 9, 2009 Shooting at LLU? Um, I'm a bit out of the loop....I'm listening to NPR and I hear of no shooting.... Whatcha all talking about...? Quote Democracy is a device that ensures we shall be governed no better than we deserve. George Bernard Shaw
Woody Posted March 9, 2009 Posted March 9, 2009 A shooting at La Sierra ... not LLU. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.

Moderators John317 Posted March 9, 2009 Moderators Posted March 9, 2009 Wasn't there a shooting there a little while ago or was it LLU? As far as I know, the last shooting on LLU campus was back about 1990. A member of security got angry about his work and assassinated his boss, a deputy sheriff. I haven't heard about any since that time. I hope that was the last one. Quote John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. [17] For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.
Members phkrause Posted March 9, 2009 Members Posted March 9, 2009 That sounds familiar but for some reason I thought that was recently! ha But wasn't there some kind of holdup or something? Woody Posted March 9, 2009 Posted March 9, 2009 I do have to confess that when I went to LaSierra ... it was concerned Loma Linda. I don't know what it is considered now. Maybe it is just plain ol' LaSierra. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.

organED Posted March 13, 2009 Posted March 13, 2009 Thankfully, everybody is ok. I was the Assistant Director of University Patrol/Security and La Sierra (back then it was the La Sierra Campus of LLU) from 1986 to 1989 and the current Chief/Director of Security is a friend of mine. Things will be well under control.I haven't spoken to him yet, so I am not sure of details. Also, certain information will probably not be divulged - that is standard policy. I know, and many of you probably do to, that there are unique issues to the campus, and it is pretty open, though it is now a bit more closed since all the revamping and street changing in the 90's. Not only does the department have charge of the safety of the personel, buildings, and property - and parking enforcement, they also have the SE California Conference complex, La Sierra Academy,LSU Church to patrol, and the market complex. When I was there, we also had the former Loma Linda Foods factory. Quote

Wasn't there a shooting there a little while ago or was it LLU? pk I know Dean Halvorsen - good man. He was the assistant Dean of Men when I was a student from 1979 to 1983. He was an excellent baseball pitcher, too, having pitched in the minor leagues at one time. During our intramural baseball games, he used to blow the kids away. LOL I got a hit off of him - once! He never let me forget it - because I never got a sniff of a hit afterwards. LOL Those were fun times. Quote
Members phkrause Posted March 13, 2009 Members Posted March 13, 2009 Hi organED, I believe that Warren played in the Cardinals minor league system, and he was a shortstop if I'm not mistaken. I worked with his brother Elliot at FFT when they were in NY. Also his brother Ron married me and my wife when he was living in NY. pk Quote phkrause When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan. CyberGuy Posted March 14, 2009 Posted March 14, 2009 The story is this. Gunshots were heard on the soccor field behind the Alunmi Pavilion which is the Gynasium for La Sierra University. The person who fired the shots ran across campus and up in the hills behind the University. Security lost him up in those hills. Police searched by helicoptors but found nothing. It may be the guy was just shooting off a pistol on the soccor field. No one reported being shot at. Quote Riverside CA
