Dr. Shane Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 The Daily Kos feeds liberals just like Rush Limbaugh feeds conservatives. It gives them the red meat they want. It is not a bad place to get balance if a person listens to talk radio. That said, those that listen to talk radio or get their news from a variety of sources will be quick to see some problems with this article. The article says President Hoover "tried to encourage public-private partnerships, which failed miserably." That is what President Obama is doing. "Secretary Mellon had the highest tax rate reduced from 77 to 25 percent, reduced the estate tax, and cut government agency budgets to 'improve efficiency in government.'" Reducing taxes has stimulated the economy in both the 1960s and 1980s. Doing this puts more money into the private sector to expand businesses, hire more people, etc. Cutting government jobs during a recession is not a good thing. The article concludes that both of these things hurt the economy during the beginning of the Great Depression. That is probably not correct. "Hoover started an international tariff war with the rest of the world by signing the Smoot-Hawley Tariff Act of 1930." That was the big error. The stock market crashed in 1929 and Hoover passed Smoot-Hawley the following year. That was a devastating blow to the economy. We learn from that mistake that free trade is good for the economy. The rest of the article is just some Anti-Bush, red meat for liberals wanting to cherish the days when they could blame all of society's problem on a Republican. Not too much there for critical thinkers actually wanting to compare the two eras. Quote Pastoral Family Counselor... Find me at www.PostumCafe.com Author of Peculiar Christianity
