Robert Posted March 17, 2009 Author Posted March 17, 2009 Datsun? Sometime in the 60's? You know how the Japanese came up with the name Datsun? Consumers wanted something new, now! And the reply was - Dat soon? Quote

Moderators Bravus Posted March 17, 2009 Moderators Posted March 17, 2009 Welcome, SouthAfrican. I got to spend about 2 months in your beautiful country, in 7 short trips over a couple of years, maybe 6 years ago, and enjoyed it thoroughly. As it happens almost all of my cell group (home Bible study group) in Brisbane is made up of expat South Africans. I love some of the stories of odd names, even if they're mostly apocryphal. The 'Mitsubishi Starion' was alleged to be a JapanEnglish version of what a (male) 'Mitsubishi Colt' is when it grows up. Quote Truth is important

SouthAfrican Posted March 18, 2009 Posted March 18, 2009 A sports car might be a work of art, but for myself it will not be a practical choice Family of four (mommy, daddy, daugher and son) plus groceries and assorted toys and the such cannot be squeezed into a sports car @ Bravus : I'm trying to find out from our friends down under where they're located, chances might be that they'll know you. GreatLakesGramma Posted March 18, 2009 Posted March 18, 2009 There's a DeLorean in the Classic Cars Auto Trader right now. It's original owner, excellent condition, 12K miles, for $24,900. Doug Posted March 19, 2009 Posted March 19, 2009 You can buy new Delorean cars now. Somoene bought the plant and rights to build them. I believe they are kind of expensive now. http://www.delorean.com/sales.asp Quote

olger Posted March 19, 2009 Posted March 19, 2009 Datsun? Sometime in the 60's? It's a 77 280z. Amelia. I bought it in Arizona in `03. Very clean. Wife & I took a second honeymoon in it that fall. Drove it to Niagara/Toronto. Going down the QEW into Toronto, I kept hearing a horn to my left, finally turned and looked. A canadian guy in a 280z was beside me and waving for all he was worth. Fun times !! Big grins all around. oG Quote "Please don't feed the drama queens.."
Moderators Bravus Posted March 19, 2009 Moderators Posted March 19, 2009 That Carver three-wheeler looks like a heap of fun. The Top Gear story made me laugh wryly though: Jeremy Clarkson does nothing but disparage motorbikes... then gets in a car that's the closest possible thing to a motorbike and says it's the most fun he's ever had in a car!
