Warning from David Wilkerson

When I was a kid, I read about David Wilkerson who took the Gospel to the gangs of New York. I even saw the movie "The Cross and the Switchblade" that was made about him. Many know about that, but most don't know what happened in his church just eight years ago.

In the fall of 2001, Pastor David Wilkerson, of Times Square Church in New York City, was warned by God that a calamity was coming. For six weeks they felt an intense burden and enormous heaviness. A critical need for intercession was so profound that Pastor Wilkerson canceled everything on the church calendar – mission's, conferences, youth events and every guest speaker.

For six weeks, there wasn't a sermon. Instead, there was intercession for our nation with weeping and repentance. They knew something was coming and "that something" was bad. And "that something" was soon. So they prayed. And prayed … and prayed.

Then Wilkerson felt God telling him something that seemed rather bizarre. He felt God telling him to make sandwiches – lots of sandwiches. What were they for? Who would eat them? That part wasn't clear, but his church did what they believed God was telling them anyway.

And on the 10th of September they stayed up all night making hundreds and hundreds of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. By morning they had about 2,000 sandwiches. At 8:46 a.m. the first plane hit the World Trade Center and Times Square Church was ready to feed and minister to rescue workers and victims of our nation's worst attack.

Making sandwiches all night is a strange thing to do. If someone told me to stay up all night making sandwiches, I'd probably tell them they were crazy. But if David Wilkerson says he's heard something from God today, I think we'd be crazy not to listen.

He now says he feels the same thing he felt leading up to the attack by radical Islam.

In an "URGENT MESSAGE" dated March 7, 2009, Wilkerson said:

"AN EARTH-SHATTERING CALAMITY IS ABOUT TO HAPPEN. IT IS GOING TO BE SO FRIGHTENING, WE ARE ALL GOING TO TREMBLE – EVEN THE GODLIEST AMONG US. For 10 years I have been warning about a thousand fires coming to New York City. It will engulf the whole megaplex, including areas of New Jersey and Connecticut.. Major cities all across America will experience riots and blazing fires – such as we saw in Watts, Los Angeles, years ago.

There will be riots and fires in cities worldwide. There will be looting – including Times Square, New York City. What we are experiencing now is not a recession, not even a depression. We are under God's wrath. … God is judging the raging sins of America and the nations. He is destroying the secular foundations.

The prophet Jeremiah pleaded with wicked Israel, "God is fashioning a calamity against you and devising a plan against you. Oh, turn back each of you from your evil way, and reform your ways and deeds. But they will say, It's hopeless! For we are going to follow our own plans, and each of us will act according to the stubbornness of his evil heart" (Jeremiah 18:11-12).

In Psalm 11:6, David warns, "Upon the wicked he will rain snares (coals of fire) … fire … burning wind … will be the portion of their cup." Why? David answered, "Because the Lord is righteous" (v. 7). This is a righteous judgment – just as in the judgments of Sodom and in Noah's generation.

WHAT SHALL THE RIGHTEOUS DO? WHAT ABOUT GOD'S PEOPLE?

First, I give you a practical word I received for my own direction. If possible lay in store a 30-day supply of non-perishable food, toiletries and other essentials. In major cities, grocery stores are emptied in an hour at the sign of an impending disaster.

… I will behold our Lord on his throne, with his eye of tender, loving kindness watching over every step I take – trusting that he will deliver his people even through floods, fires, calamities, tests, trials of all kinds.

Note: I do not know when these things will come to pass, but I know it is not far off. I have unburdened my soul to you. Do with the message as you choose."

Warren Buffett has said that our economy has "fallen off a cliff." With the election of the most pro-abortion president (and Congress) in history, there's no question that we deserve God's judgment.

Just yesterday, Barack Obama signed an executive order to use children for spare parts. So much for defending the "least of these," as he so often quoted during his campaign. Cannibalizing the weak to help the strong. And by the way, don't believe everything you hear in the news – Obama didn't say he was against cloning. He said he was against "reproductive" cloning. Killing a new life after cloning one is another matter entirely: the cowardice of Obama's "Brave New World."

The bottom line is that we are economically and morally bankrupt. And it's reported that Iran now has all they need to build nukes.

So, when the guy who made the 2,000 sandwiches on Sept. 10 warns us: "AN EARTH-SHATTERING CALAMITY IS ABOUT TO HAPPEN," I think we would do well to heed it. And follow the words Wilkerson quotes from the prophet Jeremiah and "turn back each of you from your evil way, and reform your ways and deeds."

PERFECT PEACE

In the time of panic, God’s trusting people will be blessed with perfect peace.

The Lord declares, “I create the fruit of the lips: Peace, peace to him that is far off, and to him that is near, saith the Lord: and I will heal him” (Isaiah 57:19). The Hebrew word for “peace” here is “perfect peace.”

I believe that as we’re surrounded by chaos and hysteria in the coming days, America is going to witness the greatest testimony of God’s glory and power it has even seen. How? All of America will see that many of God’s people possess his perfect peace! In that time the Lord is going to raise up a people who’ve been endowed with his absolute, perfect peace – peace that Christ himself now enjoys at the right hand of the Father. And we’re going to live, move and breathe in that wonderful peace.

Scripture says God will keep all who trust him “…in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee” (Isaiah 26.3). And right now, many of God’s people are making this commitment to him: “I’m going to set my heart to seek God through everything, no matter what comes. I’m going to give him all that I have and all that I am. I believe his judgment is coming – so I’m going to prepare myself for him, as his bride!”

God first made his promise of perfect peace to those in Judah who were undergoing a great chastening of the Lord upon their land. God was bringing down all the high fortresses and walls, all the pomp and riches people leaned on, “…even to the dust” (Isaiah 25:12). Even the faithful remnant that still trusted in God were shaken to their very core. Yet during that time, God told Isaiah to reassure these faithful believers: “The Lord is going to keep you in perfect peace – if you simply trust him!” The prophet said, “Lord, thou wilt ordain peace for us…” (26:12). In other words: “God is going to set up in our hearts his very own peace. He wants to give us a peace that can’t be shaken.

Likewise today, when panic strikes in America – when the ominous news begins to send shock waves of fear across the land, and hysteria mounts – God’s people won’t be able to avoid feeling the huge wave of human anxiety. That’s right – I will feel it, you will feel it; all Christians are going to feel it. Such feelings are inevitable; it’s simply human to have this kind of reaction to such terrible chaos. Yet, at the same time, God will put within us the resources needed to take immediate control of every fearful thought and bring it to the truth of Christ. And his Spirit will fill our very beings with his perfect peace!"

Marvin Moore of the Signs of the Times has written very good books on the subject, including one entitled the coming great calamity, or something similar to that.

Calamities are going to play a great part in ushering in the mark of the beast.

The sandwich story is wrong (I know that). I was at Times Square Church in 2007 speaking with a couple of the associate pastors.

However the warning is valid and is almost a duet of another warning given by a little lady 100-years ago.

If you keep on predicting calamity, sooner or later you'll be right, or at least something will occur that can be interpreted as fulfilment of the prophecy. There will definitely be a large fire in New York *sometime*.

Olger, when you posted this did you already know that there was a huge lie at the centre of it being used to give credence to the 'prophecy'?

Adventists are not known for being quick to seek out prophecies and dreams, messages, etc, publicised by Christians from other denominations.

My husband has been following this for a good couple of weeks now, since it first appeared. I, too, was surprised to see that it took this long to make it onto an Adventist forum.

And I might add that I did not post it here because if I did, I would have to post half a dozen more dreams/visions/ messages every day.

Unfortunately I have been exposed for so long to these kinds of things (growing up Adventist), that whenever yet another such "message" appears, my immediate reaction is to roll my eyes and say "oh, boy...here we go again." I can just about predict what they are going to say next, right down to how many buildings will be flattened, how much panic and fear there will be, and how the fire trucks will not be able to cope with the fires. (sound familiar...like a boy repeatedly crying "wolf"?)

Sorry to come across as so cynical but this is what it has come to. When the real thing happens I guess I will have to rely on something other than manufactured adrenaline and recycled hype for guidance.

I understand what you mean. The forces of darkness would like nothing better than to flood us with so many of these messages of doom so that when the real one comes, we would be too cynical to pay attention. Or repeat the same message for so long until it just goes one ear and out the other, just like before the flood.

so "somebody else" came up with a story about Wilkerson and a sandwich making program before 9/11.

Seems to have no connection at all to Wilkerson himself -- unless the accusation is that Wilkerson is the one that started the 9/11 sandwich story - -which apparenly nobody accuses him of doing.

which means we are left with the 3/7/2009 statement that actually IS on his blog site.

David, Good question. No I didn't know about the sandwiches. I know that David went out into the streets on 9/11 and brought a couple thousand people into the church to minister to them.

David has long been a Jeremiah in America, from the days of his book "Set the trumpet to thy mouth." He is someone for whom I have HIGH regard. He is planning to live out his life doing missionary work in Africa.

David didn't send this email out. Best not to waste time attacking him.

Just to be clear, I had no intention of discrediting the things this man claims to have seen or "felt" to be the voice of God speaking with him. I merely posted the link I found because it seemed to me that the reader was supposed to be somehow influenced by his decision to stay up all night making 2000 sandwiches when clearly, this did not happen in the order that the original post claimed it to have.

My intent was to give a clearer understanding of what was actually being presented.
