Moderators Bravus Posted April 28, 2009 Moderators Posted April 28, 2009 Although it's impossible to get swine flu from properly cooked pork products, lots of people have stopped eating and buying, and some countries have stopped importing, pork as a result of the swine flu epidemic. Personally I think it's unethical to exploit this to try to make a broader health point about avoiding pork... but it's kinda tempting. Quote Truth is important
Dr. Shane Posted April 28, 2009 Posted April 28, 2009 I know a lot of people are avoiding pork because of swine flu. While one may not be able to get swine flu from eating pork, there are many other reasons not to eat pork. I recently heard a report of a strong link between the consumption of beef and pork and cancer. Bad stuff. I think cancer is even worse than swine flu. Quote Pastoral Family Counselor... Graeme PS I don't consider cancer to be 'over-hyped' Not sure that the 100+ fit young people who have died in Mexico would agree with you regarding 'hog flu' And perhaps those asbestos miners who died a miserable death after a long, protracted and painful fight with mesothelioma would not be on your side about being over-hyped either. Outta Here Posted April 28, 2009 Posted April 28, 2009 Although it's impossible to get swine flu from properly cooked pork products, lots of people have stopped eating and buying, and some countries have stopped importing, pork as a result of the swine flu epidemic. On the other hand, Swine Flu is something that's originated in the swine population. Less consumption of pork would lead to less production of pork products. Less production would lead to smaller populations where the flu could remanifest. Quote

As of 1300 hours on 4-28, there are 64 know infections spread over several states, and now, several boat cruises have stopped thier port calls in Mexico. Woody Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 My paper's headline is "Pork is safe to eat". Apparently the editor was not an Adventist. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.

Kountzer Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 I can remember reading an adventist book, booklet, or article years ago that talked about the virtues of vegetarianism, and pandemic illnesses resulting from eating pork, and chicken as well. As I recall this book drew a direct relation between consuming these types of flesh and getting swine and or bird flu. To back this assertion up it referred to devastating pandemics in the past.
