Ethics of using irrational fears

It is also interesting to watch how the mass media bends over backwards to defend the pork industry, stating that you can't get this flue from eating pork. Yeah right.

Having said that I don't think you can trust the media if you are on the political left or right.

The whole point of this flu is that you get it from people.

And they [the media] are telling people how they will get the flu.....You touch a carrier or a surface that has the H1N1 flu strain [it can last up to 7 hours on a surface] and then you touch your face around the mouth or eyes.....Adults do this unconsciously nearly 20 times per hour...Children, OTOH, do it 60 times per hour....

So, which is more the more likely way of getting the flu?

That's why there is such an emphasis of washing your hands, OFTEN....

So, was Joe Biden spreading irrational fear when he suggested staying out of airplanes, subways, and other confined spaces?

According to the CDC ... YES. Irrational fear.

We now live in a world where liability is the order of the day, and paranoia is the soup du jour.

...and what will you be saying in 2 months when the international death toll is in the thousands (at least) and the WHO has upgraded to a Level 6 pandemic alert?

If that doesn't happen, I will be absolutely delighted. But it's what I expect to happen, and I hope that those claiming this is all a storm in a tea cup will have the grace to look embarrassed when they're proved wrong.

The outcome of hog flu does not change the fact that the aforementioned paranoias point to an elevated presence of fears in the world.

It may be a pandemic, and it may not. Ultimately I hope for the antidote of perfect love.

I was just reading that the conservative fascist extremist (my words) radio talk show hosts are inciting racism against illegal immigrants because of the swine flu epidemic. Talk about ignorance!! Now THAT is irrational fear.

If we don't see it this time around, we WILL see it eventually. What if this scare fades and people become even more complacent? It will set us up for a greater fiasco down the road.

No one will miss the pigs and I too was surprised that Egypt had any

The Christian Copts in Egypt who owned the pigs will probably miss them. Bit of irony, Christian SDAs here applauding an oppressive Muslim action aimed at Christians in Egypt.

I thought it was aimed at pigs. :)

Actually the more I think about that!!!! They have pigs in Israel, and neither the Jews or Muslims eat pork. Oh well never mind I mentioned that about Egypt. hahahahaha
