Dr. Shane Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 Well I turn 40 in July. From the way it looks I will be in Africa at the time - far from my family. So, I figure it is about time for my mid-life crisis. I am thinking about getting more involved in AA again so I can help more people. My other option is to get hair implants so I can have a full head of hair. I have pretty much ruled out buying the sports car. Quote Pastoral Family Counselor... Members phkrause Posted May 6, 2009 Members Posted May 6, 2009 I don't know, I've always thought and believed that the mid-life crisis, is a fairy tale. Not that I haven't seen people go through what they think is a mid-life crisis. But I believe if you have a good wife and you are enjoying life and are right with you Savior there is no reason for it. I think that as life goes on we all ask ourselves, have I done all that I can? Like you mentioned about helping out with AA, seems that you are more interesting in helping others than really making that change in your life that people would consider a mid-life crisis. I say good for you. Doing something productive is good. I think that if you think that that is your mid-life crisis than good for you. As far as the hair, that's just plain vain Shane. hahaha pk Quote phkrause When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan. Proverbs 29;2
Key Guy Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 Grimmy, That is what I found, too! The changes I have in my life at 30,40,50 were changes that I initiated, if there even were any. There was no outside force with which to be dealt. Quote
Administrators Gail Posted May 6, 2009 Administrators Posted May 6, 2009 Yup- been there, done that, bought the T-shirt! At 20, I had my family. At 30, went to Europe to see some friends. At 40, separated and divorced. This year I will be 50... Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.
Key Guy Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 I went nuts and shaved my beard on my 30th. I stopped shaving a few days later. What was I thinking?! 40 and 50 were way quiet. Quote
Moderators Bravus Posted May 6, 2009 Moderators Posted May 6, 2009 I got my motorbike at 42, but that had more to do with moving from Alberta to Queensland, where it's sunny all year 'round instead of snowy half the year. I think midlife crisis is much more likely for that person who got a job and got married straight out of high school or college and is still in that same town, working for that same company, 20 years later. There's gotta be some pressure to make a change while there's still life left. With all the moves and upheavals we've intentionally inflicted on ourselves, I'm far from bored: not quite 3 years yet in this job and this town. Sounds like you've gone through your share of changes too, Shane, and with the Africa project coming up as well boredom and being stuck in a rut doesn't seem as though it'd be such an issue. Administrators Gail Posted May 7, 2009 Administrators Posted May 7, 2009 LOL Rob, I'm at the point where I'm beginning to think about giving my Miata to my girlie and moving on, too, although I hate to admit it... I still love that car!! So, yeah, I did the sports car thing, too. :) Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.
Members phkrause Posted May 7, 2009 Members Posted May 7, 2009 Never liked the Miata, sorry! But I did own a 69 camaro and a 93 vette. My camaro was my favorite of all time, and neither had anything to do with mid-life. Never believed in mid-life anyway. pk Quote phkrause When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan. Proverbs 29;2

Dr. Shane Posted May 7, 2009 Author Posted May 7, 2009 I think I would rather buy a boat than a car. Members phkrause Posted May 7, 2009 Members Posted May 7, 2009 Yes I remember those beauties, hahahaha. Also the road runners, and how about the super charger's. pk Quote phkrause When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan. Proverbs 29;2
Administrators Gail Posted May 7, 2009 Administrators Posted May 7, 2009 Chrysler did have some good playthings, my favourite being the Barracuda Remember the Super Bee? All good mid-life crisis cars... Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.
Administrators Gail Posted May 7, 2009 Administrators Posted May 7, 2009 Very often in a mid-life crisis an older fellow will take up with a sweet young thing. It seems to be a real temptation at "that" age, 50 of what-have-you. Know anybody who did that? Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.
Key Guy Posted May 7, 2009 Posted May 7, 2009 Gail, I have thought about this a lot. Tell me if I'm wrong.. The guys that have the crises are typically married I'm not so sure any of them are happily married I'm offering no excuses here... but... I can easily conclude that there is a role played by the wife who perhaps isn't what she was when they first married. Why do I say that? The guy typically finds a 'young', energetic honey The wife typically doesn't look for a 'young' stud If the husband were digging an older, mature lady, I'd be all wet, but that's not what happens. Short summary: The wife can no longer keep up with the husband. She may even expect that he should just accept her for what she has become. Sadly, she may be all spent on raising kids and such, so I'm not blaming her. I do totally believe that communications in that marriage has hit the rocks. I know I'm now open for the arrows... start shooting! Quote
Administrators Gail Posted May 7, 2009 Administrators Posted May 7, 2009 ROFLOL I'm not sure that it is totally a wife's issue... I rather thought that perhaps the man is struggling with his virility or something. After all, a woman is in her prime sexually at 40. That's why I would wonder if the following scenarios would be at play here: - wife on arm no longer young and attractive - he wants to see if he still has what it takes to attract a young and attractive wife - the marriage is just not going well and a milestone birthday gives the impetus to do something drastic - boredom - a physical thing- the wife's sex drive has waned and he's just fed up of going without and lonely - simply aging... time is getting on and if he doesn't do it now he'll never get the chance I just love watching elderly couples who are in love. Old age romance rocks!! Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.
