Woody Posted May 20, 2009 Posted May 20, 2009 I love to go to places like Yellowstone and Yosemite National Park. I love the solitude. But now there will be loaded guns. This is not going to contribute to my peace. What about your's? Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.
Members phkrause Posted May 20, 2009 Members Posted May 20, 2009 I didn't know that that was not allowed. Isn't there hunting season at yellowstone and the other parks? pk Quote phkrause When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan. Proverbs 29;2
Woody Posted May 20, 2009 Author Posted May 20, 2009 No hunting is allowed in National Parks. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.
Members phkrause Posted May 20, 2009 Members Posted May 20, 2009 That's good to know. What is the reason for allowing guns now? pk Quote phkrause When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan. Proverbs 29;2
Derrell M Posted May 20, 2009 Posted May 20, 2009 Perhaps they can require silencers on all loaded guns carried in public parks, that way our peace and quiet will be protected and preserved. Quote
Woody Posted May 20, 2009 Author Posted May 20, 2009 Thank you Friend ... that is a good suggestion to make to Obama. He will be signing this bill soon and if he is going to ammend it ... you will need to get this word to him. Be sure to send it Priority Mail or Overnight Express. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.
Liz Posted May 21, 2009 Posted May 21, 2009 I have a feeling that this won't last long. Wait until all the hurt bears start showing up (and needing to be destroyed) along with tons of dead little animals. Once that starts happening, then the animal rights activists will probably start lobbying to get this reversed. Amelia Posted May 21, 2009 Posted May 21, 2009 Hummmm It may be because the bear deterrants there are now, don't work very well. Lots of people get mauled and killed by bear attacks (not to mention buffalo, elk and moose) in Yellowstone every year. Maybe they are allowing guns as a form of protection? Key Guy Posted May 21, 2009 Posted May 21, 2009 This has nothing to do with hunting and very little to do with bears (unless they attack). It has everything to do with self-defense and I, for one, am very pleased. God gave us the right to protect ourselves, our family members AND our 'neighbors' (we love our neighbors as ourselves, remember?). It's about time the gov't recognizes that right. Since when do national parks (or universities and other public places) magically have no threats? There will not be broken peace in the parks as the guns won't be used for hunting or picking off little animals. Hopefully, the only gunshot you might hear will be from a real American picking off a bad guy. Quote

Outta Here Posted May 21, 2009 Posted May 21, 2009 So...this isn't a law just yet? I'm confused by the title of the thread. Obama still needs to sign, yes? Quote

It is confusing. I meant 'now' as in the future after Obama signs the bill. ANd he has promised to do so. But I suspect he is waiting to have a big signing ceremony at Yellowstone wearing a gun. Planey Posted May 24, 2009 Posted May 24, 2009 The signs are in good taste Wouldn't disagree with that for a second. Still, you could change the point of the humour by careful positioning of the sign (not making its meaning rude, just changing its intent). Ted Oplinger Posted May 25, 2009 Posted May 25, 2009 Actually, timewarp has it spot on. It's not really the bears, wolves, elk and bison people will be allowed to carry for - it's the two-legged varmints. There has been a growing concern from several groups about the dangers of encountering marijuana plots (and the protectors of such), criminal vagabonds, and other of societal ne'er-do-wells, committing crimes against visitors and park staff for many years. While I know many here don't agree with the use of firearms for any reason, the rights to life and liberty given to us by God also entail the right to defend that life and liberty. It's a matter of the Second Amendment and Fourth Amendment rights - the right to bear arms in self-defense coupled with the right to be secure in one's person and effects....for those who wish to participate in them. Quote "As iron sharpens iron, so also does one man sharpen another" - Proverbs 27:17 "The offense of the cross is that the cross is a confession of human frailty and sin and of inability to do any good thing. To take the cross of Christ means to depend solely on Him for everything, and this is the abasement of all human pride. Men love to fancy themselves independent. But let the cross be preached, let it be made known that in man dwells no good thing and that all must be received as a gift, and straightway someone is offended." Ellet J. Waggoner, The Glad Tidings "Courage is being scared to death - and saddling up anyway" - John Wayne "The person who pays an ounce of principle for a pound of popularity gets badly cheated" - Ronald Reagan

GreatLakesGramma Posted May 26, 2009 Posted May 26, 2009 There has been a growing concern from several groups about the dangers of encountering marijuana plots (and the protectors of such), criminal vagabonds, and other of societal ne'er-do-wells, committing crimes against visitors and park staff for many years. I'd be more concerned about these types being in the parks than about decent people carrying guns. People like them will carry guns whether they are legal of not. But studies have shown that in communities where guns are legal, crime goes down. Criminals are more reluctant to take the risk of attempting to victimize those who might be armed. Quote Catherine God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever. Psalm 73:26. "To be a Christian means to forgive the inexcusable, because God has forgiven the inexcusable in you." -- C. S. Lewis
Planey Posted May 28, 2009 Posted May 28, 2009 Carrying a weapon will contribute to one's peace of mind. On the other hand you carrying a weapon wll definitely not contribute to my peace of mind. And the more people there are carrying weapons for their peace of mind, then the greater will my peace of mind decrease exponentially.
