The news had a special bulletin on the passing away of Micheal Jackson...

"...Pop icon Michael Jackson died Thursday after being rushed to the hospital after suffering cardiac arrest. Jackson, 50, was taken from his Los Angeles home to UCLA Medical Center where doctors worked for more than an hour to try to resuscitate him,..."http://www.cnn.com/2009/SHOWBIZ/Music/06/25/michael.jackson/index.html

..yet other than a few songs, what will he be remembered for, with so much promise in youth what did he do with the talent he had, with so much influence and money what did he accomplish?

Michael Jackson is like a family member for those who followed him over the past nearly 40 years. I am from the baby boomer generation, I first saw the Michael Jackson when he and his brothers were the opening act for the Temptations singing group at the Apollo in Harlem, New York. I like America fell in love with this family. Michael Jackson took color out of music. He broke the "race barrier" . Today it doesnt matter what race the artist is they are judged by their talent in most cases. Michael helped a lot of folks around the world with his money.

His life showed us as parents "let children be children" Parents must be more observant with their children mental stability. His life also shows that show biz is such a shallow field and should not encouraged its not for the light hearted. Your only as good as your record sales. As a wise king said "all is vanity"

What has Michael accomplished in his half of century......He gave us "We are the World" We are our brothers keeper......

An after note.....

Michael Jackson childrens nanny, was an african girl name "Grace" who went to AUC adventis college in Massachuttes.

In a very real sense, everyone will have to answer that question.

They cancelled the Clark Howard show on the radio to become breathless about Jacko. I miss Clark Howard.

Who is Clark Howard? I never heard of him, but my guess is he is a conservative talk show host.

My interest in Michael Jackson and his music diminished over the years. That genre of pop music went out of style as rap & hip hop took over. I lost interest in secular music in general. Also I became disillusioned with mj because of the personal problems he had. Still, it is a shock to hear that he is gone. To put it in perspective the world mourned when Elvis died, but those fans that were more close to his rockabilly, southern C&W roots felt it more. Same for hispanics when Selena met her untimely demise. Same for Michael Jackson in the community I am from.

The death of Michael Jackson does not affect your life one iota, but there is a vote in Washington DC today to implement the most massive tax grab ever. That affects our life.

..yet other than a few songs

Firstly, lol.

Secondly, One of the few artists to have been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame twice, his other achievements include multiple Guinness World Records—including one for "Most Successful Entertainer of All Time"—13 Grammy Awards, 13 number one singles in his solo career—more than any other male artist in the Hot 100 era and the sale of 750 million records worldwide.

Quote:

what will he be remembered for, with so much promise in youth what did he do with the talent he had, with so much influence and money what did he accomplish?

Jackson donated and raised millions of dollars for beneficial causes through his foundation, charity singles and support of 39 charities.

The Heal the World Foundation is a charitable organization, founded by musician Michael Jackson in 1992. The foundation's creation was inspired by his charitable single of the same name. Through his foundation, Jackson airlifted 46 tons of supplies to Sarajevo, instituted drug and alcohol abuse education and donated millions of dollars to less fortunate children, including the full payment of a Hungarian child's liver transplant. Failure to file yearly accounting statements saw the charity lose its tax exempt status in 2002 but it was re-gained, under new management, in 2008.

Of course, "what does it profit a man to gain the whole world yet lose his soul".

Like it or not he touched the lives of million of young people of my generation.

Great spirits have always found violent opposition from mediocrities. The latter cannot understand it when a man does not thoughtlessly submit to hereditary prejudices but honestly and courageously uses his intelligence.

I'm not a MJ fan, but your right he did do a lot more with the money he made than many others. Towards the end here he became a very eccentric (sp) person. But still as popular as ever, and better than rap and hip hop any day in my book.

Since I became a Christian, I stopped listening to songs on the radio, and started listening more of Christian spiritual music. I never had any bad feelings about Michael Jackson...we grew up with his music when we were little girls. We were watching some on tv last night, and some this morning on Michael Jackson.....I am that type of person that love to get to know people deeply...and just by listening and hearing him talk, I got to know him more and understand him better. It was mentioned that his childhood was taken from him...and during his childhood, he took charge on the Jackson Five, like an adult..and as he got older, he became more like a child...And, he really loved children...he said that he could see God in children. I sensed he had alot of hurt on not being able to live his childhood, and other things as well. To me, he seemed like he had a very gentle, sensitive spirit. They played one song of his which really touched me...and he wrote this song while sitting in his tree he liked to climb. It's called Heal the World..this one was during half time of the super bowl in 1993. Beautiful words to this song...made me tear up.. so I hope you don't mind me sharing this song of his...it's a very pretty song words and music...

In case any of you didn't know or had forgotten, Michael Jackson was a devout Jehovah's Witness, at least in his earlier years. He used to regularly do his door to door missionary work, just like the rest of them.

Other than a few petals, what does a rose accomplish?

Posted

The purpose of a rose, with respect to the plant, is to attract insects to pollinate it, so that seeds can be made, from which other rosebushes can grow. With respect to the animal kingdom, roses provide food, and the plant helps cleanse the air and convert carbon dioxide to oxygen. It accomplishes more than most people ever stop to realize. So did Michael Jackson.

Thank you GreatLakesGrandmm.

I was not a Michael Jackson fan, I liked some of his songs more than others, and I don't dislike his music, but even if it's not your type of music it was still a form a beauty making at least for some the world a little more beautiful, and I respect the beauty he left in the world. Even if he did nothing else this was reason enough to not ask the contemptable question "what did he accomplish"

I think that there is no place today where the second commandament is broken more often today than in music. We keep making graven immages of god and woship a god who only likes the music that I like, and who dislikes the music that I dislike.

Elvis was The King for my generation. I never knew much about Micheal , other than what was on the news and that was mostly negative it seemed. Now the news media are much more appreciative.

The more I see of him and hear about him today the more I like him.

He was beautiful.

Many have a negative viewpoint of MJ because of the complaints of sexual misconduct with minor children. His candid admission of sleeping with young boys did not endear him to many

Since I was a victim of childhood sexual abuse, obviously I am not a big fan of Micheal Jackson. I think in him we see the best and worst of humanity. We see one struggling to overcome his own demons. He gave a lot to charity and yet after making so many millions of dollars he died deeply in debt. He made many children happy but than he used other children for his own pleasure. Yet in his death I think it best to highlight the positive things he did and forgive the negative.

I was neither condemning nor praising him. Neither you nor I have the power or the ability to forgive anything MJ may have done. To claim to forgive criminal or abusive acts done to others by MJ is an insult to those that who may have been truly hurt by him.

The reputation of many becomes great upon their deaths

For the record, I am a classical music fan, and MJ's music is not my thing. Neither am I impressed by what has been reported about his lifestyle.

But I find it interesting how, when a secular artist is alive, Christians fall over themselves to dissect their music...and find hidden meanings and backwards messages...and speculate on what it all means, and what hidden powers are controlling these people, and how it is all a sinister plot to control our youth, make us all use drugs, make deviant sexual behavior compulsory, make us all sacrifice goats in the back yard and bring in the new world order.

Then when one of these musicians dies, there is a stampede to prove that they did not really achieve anything and did not have any meaningful influence on people or society.

You can't have it both ways!

Now I'm off to listen to some nice classical stuff. Maybe something composed by a homosexual (Tchaikovsky), mentally unstable person (Schumann), drug addict (Berlioz) or Freemason (Mozart).
