I wasted the first 10 minutes of our 30 minute TV News tonight watching Jackson being lauded almost as a god. All that for a man who has led untold millions of souls AWAY from the kingdom of God. Are we really all SDA's on the board? In this life there are only 2 influences, that from God and that from satan. Do you really think God would have us listen to music by a bloke who sings about zombies? Undead creatures??

I do however feel sympathy for Jackson's children. They had no choice of parents.

Excuse me, I'll just be over here crying and sighing for modern Adventism.

Rather than questioning whether someone is an SDA you could ask : "why do you think it was fitting?" "Do you listen to MJ's music?" "Are you a fan?"

There are many things to sigh and cry about with modern Adventism but I don't think the comments here about MJ are really a big part of it.

I guess you could do worse...It occurs to me that you haven't done much in the listening relm of life, have you? BTW, whether you know it or not, there are three influences in a persons life....And your influence to this life was not positive...Feedback is always a positive thing, I am told....

MY complaint about the news was that I'm sure there were much more important things happening in the world than a funeral for an 'idol'. You did see the funeral, I suppose. The 'pastor' even admitted that Jackson was an idol for millions of people, but didn't mention that God says we are not to have idols.

And no, I haven't done much in the listening realm, as far as Jackson goes anyway. I try to keep away from satanic influences, you see.

It is sad to me that there is so much attributed to satan than needs to be. And I know that there is the good influences that are beneficial from God's POV.

I suppose I need to point out that my faulty memory remembers that Jesus had something to say about some people who died from an accidental crash of rubble and attributed thier wickedness and death to satan. His implied rebuke, to the discerning reader of the bible, is that neither powers of good or evil were the cause of these deaths [18 of them, if I remember correctly]. It just happened.

....which, if you apply the principle, will give you your third influence, with a bit of creative thinking....But I am not attempting to change your mind, but I do doubt that to your black and white world, you may not be able to connect the dots...However, I can be surprized... :-)

You think the Lord wants me to keep silent about this evil man leading His people away from Heaven? My only condemnation is for Jackson, not the millions who are led astray or those who worship him. But what is wrong with trying to wake people up to the evils of Jackson's 'music'?

Instead of guessing about me, why don't we look to Scripture and the Spirit of Prophecy as to what music forms are acceptable to God? And of course, we should always follow the Commandment, "Thou shalt have no other gods before me." ~ Exodus 20:3 and that goes for people setting themselves up as gods too. People like Jackson and his ilk.

I can't follow your reasoning Neil. I said absolutely nothing about attributing Jackson's death to Satan. It was his life that I was talking about. If it looks like evil, if it sounds like evil, if it smells like evil and most importantly, if it is in contravention to God's Word, then brother, IT IS EVIL.

And please don't dance around with your belief in 3 influences. God or Satan, there is no other influence.

You may not have ever conducted a funeral or had to counsel people who are grieving but there are times to talk about someones flaws and there are times not to. I chose not to in this thread.

I have spent years working with youth. I have used images of Michael Jackson to teach about matters of the heart, the need for Christ, self image etc. Michael Jackson was a sad figure. Sadly, his life can teach our youth many things.
