Stan Posted July 31, 2009 Posted July 31, 2009 Some folks believe they have new light on certain matters. I would hate to block every thought that came up.. Thinking about this, thanks to a new friend from Camp Meeting.. The rules are No adjectives, no adverbs, and no inflammatory verbs. Thoughts? Woody Posted July 31, 2009 Posted July 31, 2009 Start a new thread. For certain we don't need any adjectives. Ban them just Ban them ... Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.
Moderators Nan Posted July 31, 2009 Moderators Posted July 31, 2009 Inflammatory is an adjective so can we apply it to the verbs in question? Quote
Joe_in_RP Posted July 31, 2009 Posted July 31, 2009 I agree with Doug (again). I don't understand. Can I please have some examples? Can we have a definition of what is considered new light? I am confused about that also. Quote
Neil D Posted July 31, 2009 Posted July 31, 2009 um....is new light the same as conspiracy theorys? Quote Democracy is a device that ensures we shall be governed no better than we deserve. George Bernard Shaw
Joe_in_RP Posted July 31, 2009 Posted July 31, 2009 Neil, maybe its like "Grace". Different people have different definitions. Quote
Neil D Posted July 31, 2009 Posted July 31, 2009 Neil, maybe its like "Grace". Different people have different definitions. So, how can you have "New Truth" when you can't think outside established parameters? It's like living in the city of New York or LA...You know the rules having been there...You know how to act...having been there.... But, when you are stranded on a deserted island, there are new rules.....and new truths.... Can you think outside the conspiracy theory box, Joe? Richard Holbrook Posted July 31, 2009 Posted July 31, 2009 Yeah Neil what are you talking about? Quote
Joe_in_RP Posted August 1, 2009 Posted August 1, 2009 Now Neil I am not pointing fingers at you. I am just make comments about this topic. Some people use the term "New Light" in a condescending way. A leader at local church started a rumor I was trying to spread some "New Light". Many people followed the leader and spread the rumor and people there avoid me like I have Blue Bionic Plague. So what is this so called "New Light"? Is it new understanding about the bible? Is that a bad thing? I read JATS and Adventist Affirm. There are many new understandings there. No one dares call that "New Light" Richard Davidson has some unique teachings about the Sanctuary in the Garden of Eden. No one calls that "New Light". This church was founded by people who studied the bible and went beyond the existing truths. In this example I cited I merely made the comment that Rev 17 says there will be 10 Kings and 10 Kingdoms before Jesus comes. I said there is a movement to have 10 unions like the EU. That may fit the prophecy of Revelation 17. But this idea that Jesus is coming and that some lowly church member might have a better understanding than the leadership is threatening to some. So the best thing to do is marginalize Joe so we can retain our authority and control. I talked to the head deacon about it. I said lets see what the bible says there. "No, I know what the bible says" Quote: But the churches generally did not accept the warning. Their ministers, who, as watchmen "unto the house of Israel," should have been the first to discern the tokens of Jesus' coming, had failed to learn the truth either from the testimony of the prophets or from the signs of the times. As worldly hopes and ambitions filled the heart, love for God and faith in His word had grown cold; and when the advent doctrine was presented, it only aroused their prejudice and unbelief. The fact that the message was, to a great extent, preached by laymen, was urged as an instrument against it. The Great Controversy (1911), page 380, paragraph 1Chapter Title: A Warning Rejected So someone please explain to me what "New Light" is? I can't find a definition anywhere. Quote

Joe_in_RP Posted August 1, 2009 Posted August 1, 2009 I can see how people with big city experience may have a different perspective on something like traffic law enforcement. But I don't understand how perspective applies to this abstract term "New Light". Quote
Moderators LynnDel Posted August 1, 2009 Moderators Posted August 1, 2009 I can't even think without using adjectives and adverbs. Even the title of this thread has an adjective. A little one. LD Quote LD
Joe_in_RP Posted August 1, 2009 Posted August 1, 2009 Neil, I think I have figured it out. Here is the definition of "New Light" If someone promotes an idea that does not fit our perspective, we shall label it "New Light" in an attempt to discredit them. Hmm. Does that sound about right? Quote
Joe_in_RP Posted August 1, 2009 Posted August 1, 2009 LynnDel you are wonderful !! Its impossible to have a conversation without using adjectives and adverbs. So by eliminating them we can eliminate an discussion of "New Light" Very Clever Stan. Quote
Joe_in_RP Posted August 1, 2009 Posted August 1, 2009 Neil, let me share something with you. When I came into the church over 10 years ago the pastor who baptized me was very influential to my understanding. I attend everything he did. I soaked up everything he said. He said in the end there will be people for or against God. No in between. I did not understand then. When I joined the church I used to think things were black and white. As I grow older I see there ARE shades of gray. But I have noticed lately a polarization in society. They see things as black and white. For example, last week I was at a business. They are going to buy a new accounting system. The system the accountant recommends will cost over 300,000. A comparable one is available for 120,000. They will not even consider it. The account says this one is good so we will buy it. Blind trust in the accountant. I have never seen this so much. People following others they perceive as authorities. Rather than investigate for themselves and decide they follow authorities. Mrs White said this would happen in our churches. People would follow the pastors rather than search the scriptures. Maybe thats even happening here. Maybe there is less tolerance and more people seeing things as black and white. Quote

Joe_in_RP Posted August 1, 2009 Posted August 1, 2009 You mean with my definition of "New Light". Perhaps. People don't like change. The fact is North America is changing allot. People don't like to be reminded of that. Maybe that is why there is hostility towards my ideas here. Maybe people want things the way they used to be. Maybe people don't want to have to think about the New World Order. But I have held back. I have not shared what I think will happen in the next six months. I FIRMLY believe Jesus is coming soon. I believe it will be apparent to all by this time next year. But Jesus warned us with the parable of the 10 virgins that now is the time to be filled with the Holy Spirit. Now is the time to be studying our bibles. Now is the time for a deep prayer life. Jesus says without a full measure of the Holy Spirit we will be lost. He says if we wait to long to get it we will be lost. I don't want that to happen to anyone. Quote
Stan Posted August 1, 2009 Author Posted August 1, 2009 the point of all this, was not to have folks try to flame me.. but to be able to discuss 'new light' as facts without the emotions. If we say there will never be new light.... something is wrong... If it can't be discussed without emotional and other manipulation there is a problem with the 'light' So many of the youtube video discussing conspiracies have music underneath it that manipulates peoples emotions. If they have to use that, to convince, there is little credibility in the content, IMHO. Members phkrause Posted August 1, 2009 Members Posted August 1, 2009 Yes dgrimm I also agree with the comments that Stan is making. Its one thing to be excited about the fact that new things come to light, but its a whole different thing to get to such a frenzie (sp) or maybe a better word would be fanatical, that people want nothing to do with it. pk Quote phkrause When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan. oldsailor29 Posted August 1, 2009 Posted August 1, 2009 Somebody was asking for an example of new truth? One example I can recall is the fairly recent change in concept of hell. It has been presented, and a lot of people accept it, that hell instead of being the literal lake of fire, is the presence of God. The presence of God being a comfort to the righteous, and a consuming fire to the wicked, and being eternal seems to fit the description very well. Joe_in_RP Posted August 1, 2009 Posted August 1, 2009 Quote: a better word would be fanatical, that people want nothing to do with it. Who decides what is fanatical? The Harmon's were expelled from the Methodist church because they believed Jesus was coming in 1844. All of the pioneers of our church were considered radicals. This is a church founded on biblical principles that were/are out of favor with society. There are people who think I am a fanatic because I go to church on Saturday, don't eat meat, believe the Bible is the word of God and that He created this planet in 6 literal days. That's pretty fanatical to most of my neighbors. I mean come on. We who are rejected by the world need to be tolerant of one another. Quote: n. A person marked or motivated by an extreme, unreasoning enthusiasm, as for a cause. adj. Fanatical. Quote
