skyblue888 Posted August 21, 2009 Posted August 21, 2009 The faith of Jesus is the Holy Spirit who is the Author and Finisher of our faith. Heb.12:2. In Galatians 5:6 the apostle Paul speaks of "the faith that works by love." This is the only true faith for there is "one faith, one Lord, one baptism." Eph.4:5. In E.G. White Bible Commentary, Vol.7a, p.189, we read these words: "It is the Holy Spirit in the heart which works by love to purify the soul." This is the faith of Jesus. Thus it is written that "God has dealt to each one a measure of faith," (Rom.12:3) that is, a measure of the faith of Jesus, a measure of the Spirit, and when this faith is allowed to have free course in us, it "grows exceedingly." 2 Thess.1:3. When this faith habitually lays right hold upon the merits of a crucified and risen Saviour, the righteousness of Christ is brought into the life and it accomplishes everything and it is made manifest in obedience to all the commandments of God. See F.W.65,66,27 and T.M.92,93,97. Quote "The merits of His sacrifice are sufficient to present to the Father in our behalf." S.C.36.

Just* Posted August 21, 2009 Posted August 21, 2009 Much is lost, in reading the Scriptures, by not noting exactly what they say. Here we have literally, "the faith of Christ," just as in Rev.14:12 we have "the faith of Jesus." He is the Author and Finisher of faith. Heb.12:2. God has "dealt to every man the measure of faith" (Rom.12:3), in giving Christ to every man. "Faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God" (Rom.10:17), and Christ is the Word. All things are of God. It is He who gives repentance and forgiveness of sins. There is, therefore, no opportunity for any one to plead that his faith is weak. He may not have accepted and made use of the gift, but there is no such thing as "weak faith." A man may be "weak in faith," that is, may be afraid to depend on faith, but faith itself is as strong as the Word of God. There is no faith but the faith of Christ; everything else professing to be faith is a spurious article. Christ alone is righteous; He has overcome the world, and He alone has power to do it; in Him dwelleth all the fullness of God, because the law--God Himself--was in His heart; He alone has kept and can keep the law to perfection; therefore, only by His faith,--living faith, that is, His life in us,--can we be made righteous. But this is sufficient. He is a "tried Stone." The faith which He gives to us is His own tried and approved faith, and it will not fail us in any contest. We are not exhorted to try to do as well as He did, or to try to exercise as much faith as He had, but simply to take His faith, and let it work by love, and purify the heart. It will do it; take it! Believing Is Receiving. "As many as received Him, to them gave He power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on His name." John 1:12. That is, as many as believed on His name received Him. To believe on His name is to believe that He is the Son of God; to believe that He is the Son of God, means to believe that He is come in the flesh, in human flesh, in our flesh, for His name is "God with us;" so to believe on His name means simply to believe that He dwells personally in every man,--in all flesh. We do not make it so by believing it; it is so, whether we believe it or not; we simply accept the fact, which all nature reveals to us. It follows, then, as a matter of course that, believing in Christ, we are justified by the faith of Christ, since we have Him personally dwelling in us, exercising His own faith. All power in heaven and earth is in His hands, and, recognizing this, we simply allow Him to exercise His own power in His own way. God does "exceedingly abundantly," by "the power that worketh in us." The Glad Tidings E.J. Waggoner Quote

Twilight Posted August 21, 2009 Posted August 21, 2009 Here is a statement from SOP that should clear it up though: "The faith of Jesus." It is talked of, but not understood. What constitutes the faith of Jesus, that belongs to the third angel's message? Jesus becoming our sin-bearer that He might become our sin-pardoning Saviour. He was treated as we deserve to be treated. He came to our world and took our sins that we might take His righteousness. And faith in the ability of Christ to save us amply and fully and entirely is the faith of Jesus. {3SM 172.3} I think this and the above quote from Waggoner are part of the same wonderful truth, two facets to it. :-) Mark Quote The best wisdom is always second hand...

What I posted is in harmony with the above for the faith of Christ is the faith that comes from the Holy Spirit the Author and Finisher of our faith for it is through the Spirit that Christ dwells in the hearts of His followers. Yes the faith of Jesus is as strong as the word of God. Thanks to the merits of Christ this faith is available to us through the Spirit. Faith is expecting the word of God to do what it says, and to depend upon that word and that word only for the accomplisment of what that word says. "My word shall accomplish that which I please," says the Lord, if we do not interpose a perverse will or an evil heart of unbelief to it. Thanks Just for sharing these quotes from The Glad Tidings. sky *the beauty of it all is that God has dealt to every man a measure of that faith. skyblue888 Posted August 21, 2009 Posted August 21, 2009 :) "Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God." Rom.10:17. Why should the faith of Jesus spring up in the heart simply by hearing God's word? The answer to this question is beautifully answered in the book Christ's Object Lessons, p.38: "A sower from a higher world, Christ came to sow the seeds of truth. He who had stood in the councils of God, who had dwelt in the innermost sanctuary of the Eternal, could bring to men the pure principles of truth. Ever since the fall of man, Christ had been the Revealer of truth to the world. By Him the incorruptible seed, 'the word of God, which liveth and abideth forever,' is communicated to men. 1 Peter 1:23. In that first promise spoken to our fallen race in Eden, (Gen.3:15) Christ was sowing the gospel seed. But it is to His personal ministry among men and to the work which He thus established that the parable of the sower especially applies. The word of God is the seed. Every seed has in itself a germinating principle. In it the life of the plant is enfolded. So there is life in God's word. Christ says, "The words that I speak unto you, they are Spirit, and they are life." John 6:63. "He that heareth My word, and believeth on Him that sent Me, hath everlasting life." John 5:24. In every command and in every promise of the word of God is the power, the very life of God, by which the command may be fulfilled and the promise realized. He who by faith receives the word is receiving the very life and character of God. Every seed brings forth fruit after its kind. Sow the seed under right conditions, and it will develop its own life in the plant. Receive into the soul by faith the incorruptible seed of the word, and it will bring forth a character and a life after the similitude of the character and the life of God." C.O.L.38. As we receive the words and commands of God, not written merely but spoken, faith springs up in the heart for we believe that in everey command and in every promise of the word of God is the power, the very life of God by which the command may be fulfilled and the promise realized! If we consent, if we allow the spoken word to have free course in us, it will accomplish the will of God in us. It will accomplish His good pleasure. See Isaiah 55:11. "His power, His very life, dwells in His word. As you receive the word in faith, it will give you power to obey." M.B.150. This, I believe, was the faith of Jesus. sky *why do we not find the faith of Jesus in the churches nowadays? the answer to this question is found on page 40 of Chris't Object Lessons. "The Bible has been robbed of its power, and the results are seen in a lowering of the spiritual tone... Let the word of God speak to the people. Let those who have heard only traditions and human theories and maxims hear the voice of Him whose word can renew the soul unto everlasting life." IF "OF" is the correct rendition, then what? Rev. 14: 12 may be translated either "faith of Jesus" or "faith in Jesus." The Greek lacks a preposition: kai thn pistin Iesou. The noun, Jesus, is genitive, and it is probably to be understood as objective genitive, "faith in Jesus." That is in harmony with Rev. 2: 13. (Compare Mark 11: 22; James 2: 1; 2 Tim. 4: 7.) The New English Bible translates it, "remaining loyal to Jesus." These are loyal to God, and even in the face of death they maintain their relationship with Jesus. Quote John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. [17] For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.

John, faith, pure and simple, comes from Christ. Does it not? "That all through Him might believe." John 1:7. That is why it is called the faith of Jesus. Jesus read the Scriptures and received them as the voice of Him whose word can renew the soul unto everlasting life. Faith came to Him by hearing the voice of God as He read the Old Testament. He received the law from the Father's mouth and it was Spirit and life to Him. "Through Him we believe in God." 1 Peter 1:21. Believe in God! So you see it is truly the faith of Jesus because it comes from Him. "He is the Author and Finisher of our faith." Heb.12:2. These are loyal to God, and even in the face of death they maintain their relationship with Jesus. Did Jesus have faith? If He had faith, then we are talking about the FAITH OF Jesus. And IF He had faith, then what is it? What did He have faith in? On what basis? The Psalms are a description of the life of Christ, of the Christian life. In Psalm 40:6, we read, "My ears You have opened." We are to read the Scriptures and receive them as the Voice of God and allow it to have free course in us. This is what it means to live by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God and thus we are to become more than conquerors as Jesus overcame. For those who believe this "Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God," (Rom.10:17) simply because to them in the Word of God's mouth is the power, the very life of God by which the command may be fulfilled and the promise realized. John 6:63. sky Quote "The merits of His sacrifice are sufficient to present to the Father in our behalf." S.C.36.

He had to depend totally on His Father. The faith of Jesus, as I understand it then, is His total dependence/trust/confidence in the Father. Therefore, to have the faith of Jesus is to have total trust/confidence/dependence on God AS He was. Quote
