Moderators Gregory Matthews Posted September 3, 2009 Moderators Posted September 3, 2009 One of my approaches to life is that we should be open to the leading of the Holy Spirit. In this respect I will say a few words about an exceptional, once in a lifetime experience of my. In doing so, I will be brief and leave much out. A group of clergy, of which I was the only SDA became concerned over a specific situation in which it was felt that a statement had to be made in regard to a specific situation. These clergy came from Protestant, Catholic and Orthodox denominations. In order to consider the issue and to make a statement it was decided that the Holywood movie JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR needed to be reviewed. I was asked to chair a small committee of clergy to view this movie and to formulate a statement on the issue that would provide a common agreemeent on the question at hand. JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR is not a movie that I would typically watch. But, I accepted the task. I personally wrote that statement that addressed the issue at hand and provided some common understanding for the various clergy. I think that the Holy Spirit led in my selection and in the statement that I wrote. It was necessary for me to view the movie JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR in order to accompllish the task given to me. I have not watched that move since as I have never again felt that the HS was leading in that direction. Quote Gregory
Woody Posted September 3, 2009 Author Posted September 3, 2009 I think one issue here is that we need to show respect to our friends and relatives as Gregory has so well expressed. There is nothing wrong with showing respect to them and their religions by attending with them. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.

I agree we need to be led by the Spirit, but the enemy can pretend to be the "Spirit" as well, as we can see with our pentecostal brothers and sisters, in fact, we can see it in our own church. But to be led by the Spirit also requires us to have some principles to gauge that leading by. Otherwise we have nothing to "test the spirits" with. :-) Mark Quote The best wisdom is always second hand...

Woody Posted September 3, 2009 Author Posted September 3, 2009 I think Gregory is doing a great job of just what you have desribed ... letting the Spirit lead and with principles. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.

Woody Posted September 3, 2009 Author Posted September 3, 2009 It's in the eye of the beholder as it is most Biblical principles. I am sure you would say no. Gregory would say yes. Both of you are being lead by the Spirit. Would you say otherwise? Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.

From scripture? 2Pe 1:20 Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. Quote The best wisdom is always second hand...
Woody Posted September 3, 2009 Author Posted September 3, 2009 I don't think that Gregory's issue is that of prophecy. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.

I am not trying to disagree with you Gregory, just trying to develop the subject a little more. :-) Let me share some thoughts: Being led by the Spirit always involves being led in the principles that God has given in His Word. That is our safety net. So what are the principles here? Or what is the "safety net" here. Some have stated that it is good to honour someone else and go to any church with them, including budhist and Islamic places of worship. But is that a biblical principle, is that being "led" by the Spirit? This is the core point to engage in I sense. :-) Mark Quote The best wisdom is always second hand...

Twilight Posted September 3, 2009 Posted September 3, 2009 What does scripture say ... ? Isa 28:10 For precept [must be] upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, [and] there a little: Is there private interpretation in this? Woody Posted September 3, 2009 Author Posted September 3, 2009 At some point you are going to have to trust that your relationship with God will allow the Holy Spirit to guide you. If you continue to through up the 'road block' of 'how do I know' and are chasing after the words of other human beings like yourself, your search will never reach a conclusion. Be concerned less with other peoples interpretations of the Bible but rely on your study and the guidance of the Holy Spirit should become known to you. God did create us with a brain and the power of choice, He did not gives us a 20 volume encyclopedia to answer all questions...that is why relationship is of such importance. Right on CoA.
