SivartM Posted October 25, 2009 Posted October 25, 2009 If we called the tithes "dues", wouldn't that make the church like a members-only club? And wouldn't that sort of defeat the purpose of the church? Quote "Always forgive your enemies; nothing annoys them so much." - Oscar WildeDo to others whatever you would like them to do to you. This is the essence of all that is taught in the law and the prophets." - Jesus

I noticed the picture on your posts. At first I thought it might be you, but the more I looked the more I believe it is a picture of Malcolm X, or at the least his twin brother. In the light of the philosophy he ostensibly gave his life for, I'm wondering what there is about his life you feel important to claim with your own experience? Since this is obviously maybe you'd like to start a new thread with it, or maybe not even pursue the interest. Just wanting to understand where you're coming from, no judgment calls. I was kinda hoping for an answer myself, I am just a little curious. If not, that's ok I guess, but wasn't he a violent person? Quote
Members phkrause Posted October 28, 2009 Members Posted October 28, 2009 He was and wasn't Richard, it depends on who you ask. I know that he was upset at white america, so he spoke out about it. Did he do vilent things? I don't think so. Did he rile up black america? Yes. I had a lot of respect for him. pk Quote phkrause When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan. Proverbs 29;2
Moderators Jeannieb43 Posted October 28, 2009 Moderators Posted October 28, 2009 So why does the church not funnel tithe into mission offerings? Mark To those of us out here in the hinterlands, our SDA organization seems to be getting top-heavy with desk-personnel.* Absorbing all the tithe money and not leaving anything for paying additional local pastors or Bible instructors. *Tom Wetmore excluded, of course. I knew someone would ask. “Education is the passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to those who prepare for it today” “You're not supposed to be so blind with patriotism that you can't face reality. Wrong is wrong, no matter who says it.” "Education is the passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to those who prepare for it today” I don't even call it violence when it's in self defense; I call it intelligence” He exposed the hypocrisy of the liberals, who cautioned Blacks to go slow and be “non-violent.” They want you to be non-violent here,” he said, “but they want you to be very violent in South Vietnam.” Malcolm said a bunch of things I don't agree with but many, many things I do agree with. His voice was a strong voice in a very dangerous time. He gave a razor sharp critic of American culture as it pertains to race. Malcolm also grew in understanding and approach as he experienced the ups and downs of the civil rights movement. Guest Posted October 28, 2009 Posted October 28, 2009 No need for a thread, I just wondered if you stood for violence. I thought you gave a good answer. Personally I think your new avatar is a great improvement over your last one. And I thought that before you gave the answer. Quote
LifeHiscost Posted October 29, 2009 Posted October 29, 2009 If you want to start a thread on Malcolm you can but it will probably get nasty. Thank you for your answer, Lazarus. I'm not sure it would serve any useful purpose to start a thread on Malcolm, although a thread on whether in-your-face ministry is either suitable or conducive to drawing people to Christ might be a good one to pursue. Jesus did have a few of those type of experiences but I think they were more apt to come as a matter of being pursued for evil, than as a result of His pursuing. "Blessed are the peacemakers, For they shall be called sons of God."Matthew 5:9 NKJV Blessings! Quote Lift Jesus up!!
Moderators lazarus Posted October 29, 2009 Moderators Posted October 29, 2009 God does "in your face ministry" all the time in scripture. I'm not sure what you mean by that phrase, perhaps you'd like to give a definition. I would suggest that Malcolm was not perusing evil he was responding to the evil all around him. Making peace can be an arduous and difficult task. It sometimes causes pain, separation etc. These things often come before true peace can exist. Matthew 10:34 32 "Whoever acknowledges me before men, I will also acknowledge him before my Father in heaven. 33 But whoever disowns me before men, I will disown him before my Father in heaven. 34 Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth, but a sword. 35 For I have come to turn a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law— 36 a man’s enemies will be the members of his own household [Micah 7:6] 37 Anyone who loves his father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; anyone who loves his son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me; and anyone who does not take up his cross and follow me is not worthy of me. 39 Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it." Marie Posted October 30, 2009 Posted October 30, 2009 I hope and pray that it is not true. We have fallen far enough from where we have been lead, this would be like the iceberg, not just the tip of it coming down. Quote In His Love, Marie
