Amelia Posted October 31, 2009 Posted October 31, 2009 A bit of trivia for Red. One of my high school teachers was a former Phillies pitcher, Larry Colton. Larry is also an author Here is his rookie card Quote <p><span style="color:#0000FF;"><span style="font-weight:bold;"><span style="font-style:italic;">"Do not use harmful words, but only helpful words, the kind that build up and provide what is needed, so that what you say will do good to those who hear you."</span></span> Eph 4:29</span><br><br><img src="http://banners.wunderground.com/weathersticker/gizmotimetemp_both/US/OR/Fairview.gif" alt="Fairview.gif"> Fairview Or</p>

Administrators Gail Posted October 31, 2009 Administrators Posted October 31, 2009 Doesn't that extra hour happen in the middle of the night? I'm not doing much at that time... :) Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.
Mighty Oak Posted October 31, 2009 Posted October 31, 2009 I am concerned that my fellow Adventists are not being thoughtful about the time change this weekend. Since the fall adjustment adds an additional hour of Sunday time, in a way this encourages passive Sunday-keeping. It seems to me that we should advocate moving the day that time changes from the weekend (where it supports Sunday) to a more neutral weekday evening. I would like to suggest that we begin a movement to change from Daylight Savings Time to Standard Time on a Wednesday evening. This would provide an incentive once a year for people to attend Prayer Meeting if they are not in the habit of doing so. We would not openly state our motive on this, because non-religious people likely would never catch on to what we are doing anyway and it would be good for them and might take away the excuse that they don't have enough time to try Prayer Meeting with a church-going friend. The church could then use this particular night annually as a night to promote attendance at Prayer Meeting. Local churches could maybe dream up a special program or go with the normal flow of things if that seemed better. I see this as a good entry event to church activities. Maybe you think this is overdoing it on the issue of Sunday keeping, but I don't think so. I heard a friend from church say that they weren't getting the swine flu shot because it contains a small amount of pig something or other in it and that would be wrong. So if it is wrong to get the shot, then I think it is wrong to change the time on Sunday morning. Quote

Mighty Oak Posted October 31, 2009 Posted October 31, 2009 Nope, not kidding. This could be enormous. I wonder who I could contact at the General Conference to see if they would like to discuss the possibilities? Think of the good that might come of it. Quote

Mighty Oak Posted October 31, 2009 Posted October 31, 2009 Maybe someone can help me with what is going on here. I'm talking about a serious issue to my mind that has to do with Sabbath vs Sunday. Somewhere along the line we're spending most of the time talking about some phantom named Margaret who pops up like a slice in a toaster in the middle of something that should be theological. For some of us who have recently come back to the church after years away, things that others might take for granted are very real. We struggle for acceptance and for guidance. We hope for a place where we can feel welcomed and open to discussing questions that we honestly struggle with or ideas which at least we take seriously. Quote
Members phkrause Posted October 31, 2009 Members Posted October 31, 2009 That's pretty neat Amelia. If you have ever heard of Ron Halvorsen, he had a brother that played in the Pittsburgh Pirates organization for 10 years. He never made to the majors because the pirates had a great SS at the time, Dick Groat, I believe was his name. I will probably use that extra hour for raking leaves. pk Quote phkrause When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan. Proverbs 29;2

Guest Posted October 31, 2009 Posted October 31, 2009 I believe it will be ok if you turn your clock on a different day. I've done it a day late just by accident. Quote

Mighty Oak Posted October 31, 2009 Posted October 31, 2009 Whoa, whoa, whoa! Why are we talking about sports and eBay? Isn't this Sabbath? Maybe we could focus on nature hobbies or something like that. Quote
