Woody Posted November 14, 2009 Posted November 14, 2009 Why is it that some excuse their sin saying that it is not one of the big ones so they are excused. They catagorize sins as big and small and seem to promote tolerance for the small one but total intolerance for the big ones on their list. But God considers any sin to be sin Quote: "No sin is small in the sight of God. Man's judgment is partial, imperfect; but God estimates all things as they really are." SC 30 Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.
Woody Posted November 14, 2009 Author Posted November 14, 2009 Yes. Thank you dgrimm. This is SO important to remember. It is Satan who would like for us to classify sins and diminish their importance. Yes. Sin is Sin. No sin is small. Amen !!! Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.
Moderators Gerr Posted November 14, 2009 Moderators Posted November 14, 2009 Who are these "some" who are excusing sin? I have yet to see one posting in this forum who does that. But one of those closest to Christ claimed: "All wrongdoing is sin, but there is sin that does not lead to death." 1 Jn 5:17 ESV. Is he excusing some sins? You might want to read Nu 15 again. One who was closest to God made an interesting distinction where you can't seem to see one. BTW, you might want to move this to the theology section. Quote
Woody Posted November 14, 2009 Author Posted November 14, 2009 This is not theology ... this is Basic Christianity as is the "Disfellowshipped" Thread. OR ... The Chuch The State and Marriage Thread. Wonder who started those? Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.
Woody Posted November 14, 2009 Author Posted November 14, 2009 Oh course ... those sins that are taken to Jesus with repentence ... are those that do not lead to death. They lead to forgiveness. Moderators Gerr Posted November 14, 2009 Moderators Posted November 14, 2009 And what is repentance? Quote

Woody Posted November 14, 2009 Author Posted November 14, 2009 And what is repentance? Seriously ... it is a gift from God that we must obtain daily and hourly and every minute. But even when we forget ... he still forgives. Why? Because He knows our heart. We serve a loving God. Praise His Holy and Just Name. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Woody Posted November 14, 2009 Author Posted November 14, 2009 Yes dgrimm. So True. But it is indeed a total 'gift' from God. For of ourselves ... we don't even desire good. We are born in sin. Sin reigns in us unless we respond to the Holy Spirit. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.

Contented Posted November 14, 2009 Posted November 14, 2009 I've heard folks say that 'big sins' are the one that hurt others, while the 'little sins' are the personal ones - between you and God, and no one else gets hurt. God doesn't overlook any of them however, so one is as deadly as another! Quote

Members rudywoofs (Pam) Posted November 15, 2009 Members Posted November 15, 2009 what about addictions? One needs to repeatedly repent after sinning. Members phkrause Posted November 15, 2009 Members Posted November 15, 2009 Not to disagree with you Redwood, but I haven't heard anyone excusing themselves because there sin is a little one. But I have seen or heard some mention that some sins are greater than others. But doesn't Jesus say that if we break one we have broke all, to its seems that that says they are all the same. pk Quote phkrause When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan. GreatLakesGramma Posted November 15, 2009 Posted November 15, 2009 I don't believe that all sins are of the same magnitude in God's eyes, but the ones the Bible seems to indicate that He hates the most are the ones we tend to excuse the easiest, like gossip and pride (which might have something to do with why He hates them so much). Also, I'm sure you are all familiar with when Jesus said that it would be better for someone to have a millstone tied around their neck and be drowned than for them to cause one of God's little ones to stumble. Since the person this would apply to would be someone who is not right with God in the first place, if God regarded all sins the same, the person wouldn't really be any better off if he were killed before he caused the child to turn away from God. So God must especially hate any sins that turn someone away from God. Still, the magnitude of any particular sin has more to do with the punishment that will finally be meted out to the unrepentant, than with whether God might overlook it. He can't overlook any unrepented sin, because all sin is rebellion against Him, and even a tiny smidgeon of rebellion allowed to remain would destroy the peace and stability of the universe forever. Quote Catherine God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever. Psalm 73:26. "To be a Christian means to forgive the inexcusable, because God has forgiven the inexcusable in you." -- C. S. Lewis
LifeHiscost Posted November 15, 2009 Posted November 15, 2009 Quote: "No sin is small in the sight of God. Man's judgment is partial, imperfect; but God estimates all things as they really are." SC 30 When one considers, the smallest of sins cost the life of the Prince of Peace, (Jesus) the magnitude of the sin can be seen in its' true light. Eve's original decision to believe the voice of the serpent in direct contradiction to God's instruction and the subsequent results continuing to this day puts the smallest sin into proper perspective. "But the man who has doubts (misgivings, an uneasy conscience) about eating, and then eats [perhaps because of you], stands condemned [before God], because he is not true to his convictions and he does not act from faith. For whatever does not originate and proceed from faith is sin [whatever is done without a conviction of its approval by God is sinful]."Romans 14:23 AMP Brackets theirs LHC Blessings!
