US incarceration for a large part, is due to law enforcement. Many countries just don't enforce their laws. I think we could empty out a lot of our prisons by using house arrest for non-violent criminals. I beg to differ with you, Shane. Incarceration is a result of criminal activity. To say that lack of law enforcement would empty out our cell population is like saying if God just hadn't forced law breakers out of heaven and restricted them to this earth, there would be less people who would need to be bound. Also, taking into consideration the difference of the population in China as compared to the U.S., the amount of executions between those two nations accounts for much of the difference in statitical incarceration per capita. The last figures I had knowledge of re: China's execution rate was 1700/year. Much of the incarceration in America would change if execution were our primary way of solving criminal activity. Are we prepared to accept that as a primary choice for justice? It's problematic as to whether warehousing offenders is a more humane way to deal with criminal activity. I'm not suggesting execution is the answer, but in the end it seems to be more preferable to God to permanently remove from existence, the problem of rebellion. "What do ye imagine against the LORD? I have yet to see a definition of political. But even if one were to define it I fear that it would need constant revisions. One of the best ways to avoid logical answers to any definitive subject is to change the subject. Is there a method in your madness, to quote a popular saying of past days. Regards! LifeHiscost Posted December 15, 2009 Posted December 15, 2009 Yeah, but then you would have released murderers, rapists, and thieves breaking in to your house everyday and stealing your stuff, when you go to work, and raping your wife on her way to work everyday. Or at least twice a week. And that would effectively reduce the general population to slavery, which we now are in the process of instituting in America as already exists in many other parts of the world. Blessings!
