Some thoughts on "How to play well with others" on the forum

Mind the moderator, it there is one of the forum you post in, the moderators can set the tone for their forums, this is true in public forums and private forum.

Do not 'correct' every thought and every poster, know-it-alls are less loved on forums than in real life.

Make your own statement without copying and pasting a lot of 'authorities' on what others may view as trivial matters.

Cyber-harassment has developed into crime, as it has taken place here too much in the past. I would view threatening to call one's pastor, employer, spouse etc as creeping into the category. Be my opinion on that wrong or right, if it is done you will be asked to go play elsewhere.

No means no, and that includes constant asking for cyber sexual favours, some who were here are no longer here over that.

Although I think posts are better and stronger if they are done in real names, there are some very valid reasons why some do not use real names.

If you are not supportive of the Adventist Church, and constantly post anti-adventist things, you will be asked to go play else where. There are several former Adventist and non Adventist here who really contribute to the fellowship.

Realize not everyones background is the same, live with it.

Women generally have more of a social reason for joining, whereas men are mainly interested in debating and arguing and seeing if they can "win," etc. Women are usually thinking more of how other people feel whereas men are usually thinking about people's ideas and teachings.

im not that knowldgeable about most of the mods or admin, but the one i am it is sad but true. it is hard to find a place to have a topic that the "tone" would not be generated and encouraged.

but thats just my take, and not saying i dont need to keep working on myself, especially my reactions to such behavior.

Sorry that I offended you. But I didn't say that YOU were rude for offending someone, I just said that, when someone says something that another person perceives as rude, it is generally a rude thing to say.

Mind the moderator...

In this Christian community, I believe the following Scripture has a certain bearing:

"Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves: for they watch for your souls, as they that must give account, that they may do it with joy, and not with grief: for that is unprofitable for you." Heb 13:7

The Moderators wield authority, and this is only right. At times it appears that we can be a rabble of unruly youth, and we need the protests and the restraints of the human "powers that be".

But again, the exhortation applies: "warn them that are unruly... be patient toward all men. (1Thes 5:14) In my view we are treated very patiently indeed. But I expect that if we abuse our privileges here, the day will come when God will effectively remove them altogether.

This forum is a blessing, and I think a haven for many, thanks be to the Shepherd of souls.

For sure you're right that conversion will soften "the corners," although it usually takes a while. The Holy Spirit, though, doesn't change the essential differences between men and women. God wants men and women to be different. So even with the Holy Spirit in the life, men are going to have different reasons for coming to a Forum than women have. Men will still be more focussed on ideas and on discussing them, and women will still generally have a greater interest in communicating on a feeling level than men typically have. It seems to me it has to do with the hormones and the way men and women's brains are wired differently.

But on the other hand, I've seen some women on here that would rather argue than eat.
