Not sure I agree, at least for me, my mothers family is from germany and I've eaten there little cakes and stuff and I still love pies better. My fathers family are from Poland also and all Jewish and when living in NYC I used to eat all there cakes and cookies and I still like pies better. But that's me.

I googled "placinta recipe." The first listing had this comment:

I was going to ask about a good way to witness to my children properly (other than when I hold my tongue & not lash out at them with my inner impatience from their disbeliefs). I pray inwardly to be a good witness with my actions & words. But when the times come to witness I just seem to not get through. Maybe it's because I'm not able to spend any real time with them, only visiting for a few days at a time, once a year.

I was wondering if there were any good books to buy or something to download & print.

I bought Cosmic Conflict to share with them when I am able to (I've lived in FL for 8 years & moving back to ARkansas soon & will be able to find some relaxing Sabbath to share with them then.)

My children are grown (34, 35) each with a child of their own (4, 12). I have sent children's Bible story books to them almost every year as gifts. When I am visiting & bring up stories about Jesus, Noah, Joshua, etc. they know nothing of them so the books have not been read to them nor have they read the books themselves.

My 12 year old grandson has been innundated by his mother (35) to read fantasy books from the library. He knows all about the strengths & weaknesses of Poki Man, or something like that, by the card collection he has of these Japanese anime characters.

I've told my husband that it's too bad there aren't enriching Bible games with collectible cards & figurines to represent heroes of the Bible! Something tangible to touch & play with, to trade cards to others for fun. Unfortunately there aren't any games that I know of.

Same for computer games, there is nothing worthy of today's standards to hold the interest for anyone to enjoy playing them for any length of time. The few that I've seen are so far behind in graphics & game content that they are not worth buying. Something like the "Lord of the Rings" game would be wonderful if it were a Biblical-based story line!

ABC stores are too far away no matter where I've lived & paying $10+ for a paperback book is way too expensive. Ordering online with shipping is out of the question for my very tight budget & it doesn't help to force a $50 purchase for free shipping (5 books or fewer for $50).

I don't want to just buy any books either. I've seen some really good ones but they always suggest Sunday worship or they have themes I wouldn't approve of (Halloween, Christmas, Easter). This last summer I did buy a set of cartoon-type books from online somewhere (Amazing Facts, I think) to be able to share. Hopefully once I move & have them visit, they will be interesting enough for my grandsons to read them with me while sharing some cookies.

I'm not an SDA but I do accept their teachings. The SDA Biblical truths are not reaching out to young people because most of the products are just not interesting and/or overpriced. Do you know of a place to buy used SDA books?

Welcome Suenell. Yes. You can buy good used books on Ebay for a good low price. Do a word search for what you want and save it. Then just sit back and be patient. Your time will come.

BTW ... I have an Ebay Store. But, I wouldn't buy from me. I sell for high prices !! Ha Ha. Gotta make money some how. I buy my books from Ebay and then sell them for high prices. It's the American way !!!

I know what you mean Suenell, my daughter drives me nuts about that too. I try not to interfere but than it gets to the point that when I do confront I say things that I regret right after adn so I apologies but the words are already out. It a hard thing to juggle. But if you can't get to an ABC ane the prices are to high that does make it hard to recomment books to you. Because all the ones most here would recommend would be from the ABC.

LNF Books sells new and used Adventist books. I bought the SDA Bible Commentary books there, one or two at a time. The price for a book depends on the condition, and the lower priced copies aren't going to be in good gift-giving condition. Each book is listed individually with a rating of its condition. Anything rated C or lower won't be something you could give as a gift. But you could still have them at your home and read them with the grandchildren when they visit you.

I had bought a mixed set of SDA Bible Commentary books from ebay (different dates of publication). When I was engaged, my fiance had a complete new set so I sent my set to the Theology Dept at Walla Walla to be given to a student who might not have the funds to buy a whole set. But since the engagement is off, now I have no Commentaries at all. Oh well...maybe some day...

Anyway, bookfinder.com is also a good place to look for books.

It does seem like even the nicer part of society is getting meaner, noticeably meaner. I'm watching an infommertial right now with songs of the 60's and thinking how much softer the world was then than it is now. Then I remember the LA riots and the 4 students that were shot by the National Guard and realize that those song were just wishful thinking.

No, I am not trying to be mean or hateful, but I noticed few, very few people on these forums are under 25. I was suggesting we all get children to come and join Adventist forums, try talking to the children at your church and telling them about this site, etc. I will talk to my friends from America to come and join and see if I can get any. I will try to get my mother to join as well. but she is always busy, but I will try. No chance in getting my father, he doesn't know how to type. So, try to get more people, regardless of age, actually, to join. I'm off to church...

People under 25 have their own social networking. It is called Facebook. We cannot compete with that. LOL
