Woody Posted February 3, 2010 Author Posted February 3, 2010 For one thing Karl ... we just can't afford the black conferences. Sure they can form their own churches ... but they don't need a conference to do that. Black churches in California for example seem to do fine without a conference. No one is proposing to out law a certain group of people to form a church. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.

Woody Posted February 3, 2010 Author Posted February 3, 2010 What I need to know Stan ... is did Black History Month have pagan origins? Pagans own most of the days we celebrate ... so I am just wondering. Does anyone know? Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Stan Posted February 3, 2010 Posted February 3, 2010 and why are you not allowed to say the origins of black history month? Quote If you receive benefit to being here please help out with expenses. https://www.paypal.me/clubadventist Administrator of a few websites like https://adventistdating.com

No one is proposing to out law a certain group of people to form a church. I guess I'm just an ignoramus about these things. What is it about a black conference we cannot afford? By the way, where are these black conferences? Certainly not in Arkansas? I'm not aware of any black churches here, much less conferences. We all hang out together. Quote
Administrators Tom Wetmore Posted February 3, 2010 Administrators Posted February 3, 2010 The Southwest Region Conference covers Arkansas. There are six regional conference churches in Arkansas, in Camden, Fort Smith, Pine Bluff, Marion, Hot Springs and Little Rock. I don't think you are all hanging together as much as you think you are... But the "separate but equal" nonsense that brought this all about really perpetuated the objective of separate but invisible, out of sight out of mind, evidenced by the lack of knowledge of even the existence of black churches even close by. Quote "Absurdity reigns and confusion makes it look good." "Sinless perfection is such a shallow goal." "I love God only as much as the person I love the least." *Forgiveness is always good news. And that is the gospel truth. (And finally, the ideas expressed above are solely my person views and not that of any organization with which I am associated.)

Yeah, talk about invisible! How would one even know about the existence of such churches? Is there a black conference church directory somewhere? And is this segregation being foisted upon black people? Or does their leadership encourage segregation? It is obvious that not all blacks want to do this separate but equal thing, because there are blacks in churches which do not have black pastors. And what is Woody referring to when he says we can't afford black conferences? Quote
SivartM Posted February 3, 2010 Posted February 3, 2010 If you go to union and division Pathfinder camporees, the black conferences are very obvious. It's a bit strange to meet someone in your state who is in an entirely different conference. Oddly enough, I rarely see evidence of these conferences' existence outside of camporees. You'd think we'd do a bit more socializing considering we occupy the same area. Woody Posted February 3, 2010 Author Posted February 3, 2010 Yes the black leadership wants black conferences. Otherwise ... they would lose their job. If the black conferences were disbanded ... all those churches would fall under the existing white leadership. Can you imagine all the cost savings of doing away with a large level of top heavy leadership? Come on ... it doesn't take a rocket scientist. I apologize. I don't mean this personally. But, just look at how much would be saved if all those salaries were done away with or moved to evangelism for instance. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. I'm all for evangelism, youth programs, etc. Could we not put everybody to work and still make our church more efficient and simultaneously more integrated? Instead of being the president of a separate black conference, a man could be the president of black ministries inside the larger conference. I think it is safe to say that many people would still self-segregate. Seems doable. Maybe the problem is just tradition and inertia. We could try pushing, but how do we do that? Quote
Woody Posted February 3, 2010 Author Posted February 3, 2010 Maybe we could picket the General Conference this summer. No ... as I recall in St. Louis ... they kept any picketers far away from the facilities. Your idea is great Karl. For currently there is such a duplication of services that is just un-necessary. Members rudywoofs (Pam) Posted February 3, 2010 Members Posted February 3, 2010 then you'd need someone to be in charge of hispanic ministries and korean ministries and russian ministries, etc. You don't want to offfend anyone. Woody Posted February 3, 2010 Author Posted February 3, 2010 I think there is Pam. I suppose it depends upon the conference and the populace. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.

As far as I know they do pretty good money wise. pk Quote phkrause When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan. Proverbs 29;2

Woody Posted February 3, 2010 Author Posted February 3, 2010 Quote: I have to disagree Woody. The black conference's are pretty self suficient. As far as I know they do pretty good money wise. Oh. I have no doubt. Well ... actually I have no knowledge one way or the other. But it is obvious that they are a duplication and could be absorbed into one for all people ... both black and white. Thus saving millions of dollars. But I am not sure what you are disagreeing with as I never spoke to the self sufficiency or how good they are money wise in themselves. Members phkrause Posted February 4, 2010 Members Posted February 4, 2010 Woody what I'm disagreeing with is that we will save millions of dollars. How do we get the money to pay our leaders? From its members I believe! So what I'm saying is that in the black conference's there members are giving enough money so that there leaders are paid and there conferences are not in debt, or am I not getting what you mean? pk Quote phkrause When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan. Woody Posted February 4, 2010 Author Posted February 4, 2010 pk. I guess you don't understand but that' okay. The members will still be donating their tithe ... that won't stop. The only thing that would stop is paying for black conference officials. They would be without a job. The members would be under confererence officals that already exist out side of the black conferences. Thus saving much money. Can you just imagine all the money that goes into the conference office building ... maintaining the building ... and paying the officials and office staff? Millions and Millions. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.
