Planey Posted February 10, 2010 Posted February 10, 2010 It is not often that a thread is eponymous as this one is. However I couldn't think of a more appropriate name. You may (or most probably didn't) have observed that I have not appeared on these forums for some time. The reason is thtt I have been having trouble reading lately and it has been getting worse. My left eye has a scar on the retina in the dead centre of my vision so it is basically usless for reading. I have cataracts in both eyes but as Murphy's Law would dictate, the right one has progressed much faster. ssshence with one eye unserviceable and the other looking through a mist, reading is not an option. I will be having an operation (more of a procedure than an op) on March 18 to have the right cataract removed. Hopefully I will then be able to function more normally. It would (half)appear that there are some new recruits since I was last more active. Maybe I will be able to help Neil etal to keep them in line. We shall see... Moderators Bravus Posted February 10, 2010 Moderators Posted February 10, 2010 Great to hear from you, Planey, and hopefully you'll be back enjoying this site - and all manner of other reading - real soon now. Would it help a bit if we all took Liz's lead? Quote Truth is important
Moderators Nan Posted February 10, 2010 Moderators Posted February 10, 2010 I was trying to follow Liz's lead but could not see how. Or is it easier to type elsewhere and copy and paste? Quote
Neil D Posted February 10, 2010 Posted February 10, 2010 Nan, In replying, the "reply box" has some icons immediately above it. On the upper right hand side, there is a button that has the "tT" on it. click on that, and you should be able to resize it. Planey, On this side of the world, my friends will pray for your surgery and the skills of your surgeon. You are missed here, my friend. And you are loved. Planey Posted February 10, 2010 Author Posted February 10, 2010 Thank you all for your kind thoughts. I very much appreciate them. The sutgery (?) that they will do is very simple and should be no problem. It is only a local anaesthetic and doesn't take very long. There was a New Zealand surgeon who made a practise of performing this particular procedure for people in third world countries. He would do this work for free and worked quite often in very primitive conditions. He set up a Foundation to continue his work after he passed away - the Fred Hollowes Foundation. So if he could do this procedure in the jungles of Borneo I shoild be OK in an operatinh theatre in Australia. Members rudywoofs (Pam) Posted February 11, 2010 Members Posted February 11, 2010 Planey, I'm so glad you posted here! I'm sure your eye surgery will help your vision tremendously. My mom had her cataracts removed and it only takes a few minutes under a local anesthetic, as you said. I will keep you in my prayers as well. Hurry back here soon! pindoc Posted February 12, 2010 Posted February 12, 2010 Hi Graeme! You are in my prayers, too. I am glad you let us know what is happening - think of how many prayers you would be missing if we did not know. March 18 is getting closer. I will put that on my calendar. Prayer said and more prayers coming! Quote Pindoc
puddles Posted February 13, 2010 Posted February 13, 2010 Beloved Planey, you have been added to our prayer list. Now sit back and enjoy all the blessings God has in store for you! My own brother (not yet 40) has had to go thru a detached retina ordeal for the 2nd time (first one was around 5 years ago). He had to go thru the cataract procedure a few months afterwards so would you be so kind as to include my brother (John) in YOUR prayers? God bless you Planey! Quote

Planey Posted February 16, 2010 Author Posted February 16, 2010 Puddles, I will definitely pray for brother! My mother-in-law had to have an operation for a detached retina and so I can synpathise with John, knowing what he went through. It is not an ordeal to be wished for. I hope he has good sight after all that. Graeme Quote Graeme____________________________________________________________________________________________________________
