Moderators Kevin H Posted February 20, 2010 Moderators Posted February 20, 2010 Part of the issue depends on the person's background and the direction their life is going. Elton John has been a seacher and has grown from someone who was self centered and self distructive, who only had one area of respect--the respect he gave to his music-- into more responsible and careling. From someone who started out as self centered and could have cared less about questions like this to thinking about a question like this is part of what we have to remember. We know that Jesus is God and that the Bible teaches God's relationship with creation through the Sabbath is how God meets his maritial connection. Jesus did not marry nor was gay no any other human demention of sex but had the Sabbath with his people relationshp demention. Elton John is not there yet. Yet I think that Adventism has information that if only we can learn to present it in a responsible mannor (beyond our hey join us and also become a conservative tradtionalist) that could enrich his life even if he does not join us or become a traditional Christian. He is trying to make sense of his spiritual growth with his ignorance of Christianity. He needs our prayers and he is someone who has been going in a direction, someone who is growing from selfishness into a hunger for truth where the Holy Sprit can make progress and where he is very much worth praying intercessorary prayer for. He does not have the background to be a Biblical Theologian at this time, and to be a blasphemer he needs to really understand truth and reject it. So my vote is he is neither a Biblical Theologian nor a blasphmer, but he is a searcher who has been in tug of war between Satan and the Holy Spirit for a long long time who started out with Satan having a strong but not full grip but then the Holy Spirit has been pulling back and the Holy Spirit can really use us to join in on His side by intercessorary prayer and if any of us has contact with Elton John to pray for wisdom and opputunity and the method to share with him. Some very good points Kevin, and I happen to agree with you on those points as well. pk Quote phkrause When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan. olger Posted February 22, 2010 Author Posted February 22, 2010 He's a blasphemer. "This is especially true of those who follow the corrupt desire of the sinful nature and despise authority. I think you missed the definition one this one,Kevin. EJ meets the biblical qualifications for a blasphemer, as one does not have to really understand the truth to biblically qualify. The apostle Paul makes this clear when describing his own experience (I Tim.1:13). Being a blaspherer doesn't automatically disqualify anyone from the option of becoming an ex-blasphemer because "the grace of our Lord was(is)exceedingly abundant..." As you've suggested, any efforts on our part to effect change in Elton John's current status from blasphemer to biblical theologian would,I'm certain, be greatly appreciated in heaven. Quote

Kountzer Posted February 22, 2010 Posted February 22, 2010 Years ago I was living in the North bay section of the SF bay area. One weekend I had crossed the golden gate bridge on the bus into San Fran. I went and visited a veggie restaurant on upper Market st, owned incidently by Carlo Santana. Very nice place. Anyway I found myself wandering aimlessly in the decidedly gay section of town nearby, the castro district. I was a bit lost. This was around 1981 or so. I saw this theatre in that area that was showing a movie about Jesus and the 12 disciples. The movie billboard indicated that it blasphemed them in much the same way as Elton John. Being a Southern boy from the bible belt South I didn't think that was very cool or wise. I have kept all that to myself until now. It wasn't long after that the aids epidemic broke out, in much the same area. It has spread like wild fire to everywhere else since then. I did not at the time consciously connect the two events together in a cause / effect manner, but there was a thought way in the back of my mind that contemplated such a connection. SivartM Posted February 26, 2010 Posted February 26, 2010 Which is worse, a non-Christian saying that Jesus was gay, or a Christian saying that (or acting like) Jesus hates gays? Cosmin M. Posted February 26, 2010 Posted February 26, 2010 Jesus doesn't hate gays. He hates their ways. As I do myself. This is the peak where we all get mixed up. I don't hate gays, I hate their ways. Quote
SivartM Posted February 26, 2010 Posted February 26, 2010 But do the ways of, say, bank robbers make people talk about throwing up? :\ Besides, Elton John didn't say anything about Jesus' ways, just that he thought He was gay. And we really have no idea anyway, do we? :\ Quote "Always forgive your enemies; nothing annoys them so much." - Oscar WildeDo to others whatever you would like them to do to you. This is the essence of all that is taught in the law and the prophets." - Jesus
Cosmin M. Posted February 26, 2010 Posted February 26, 2010 I have something to say to that.... JESUS IS NOT GAY. Quote
SivartM Posted February 26, 2010 Posted February 26, 2010 I didn't say He is... But how do you know? He was "in every point tempted as we are", right? Quote "Always forgive your enemies; nothing annoys them so much." - Oscar WildeDo to others whatever you would like them to do to you. This is the essence of all that is taught in the law and the prophets." - Jesus
Cosmin M. Posted February 26, 2010 Posted February 26, 2010 Right. If He was presumably gay... Why in the world would he need to make Eve for Adam at creation time? Couldn't he made a Joe or a Bob for Adam if he was gay, wouldn't he want his creations to be gay as well? P.S Sorry for the childish language, It's almost 10 PM here, too tired to write correctly... I'm off to bed. Good Night. Quote
SivartM Posted February 26, 2010 Posted February 26, 2010 Good night, Cosmin! I meant the incarnate Jesus. Before He came to earth He wasn't human and wouldn't have had any... orientation. I don't know that He was gay and I'm not saying He was. It was just a thought. He was born in the likeness of sinful flesh, after all. Also, I'm just trying to stir up trouble. Someone else will have to come take over for you now that you're going to bed. Quote "Always forgive your enemies; nothing annoys them so much." - Oscar WildeDo to others whatever you would like them to do to you.
