Stan Posted March 23, 2010 Posted March 23, 2010 While a lot of us, have strong positions on his opinions, I would hope we would never be willing to 'stone him' for giving his opinion on the recent issue nor other issues. We also need to stop giving to much power to any individual. Just my opinion. GreatLakesGramma Posted March 23, 2010 Posted March 23, 2010 What issue are you referring to? Quote Catherine God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever. Psalm 73:26. "To be a Christian means to forgive the inexcusable, because God has forgiven the inexcusable in you." -- C. S. Lewis
Moderators Gerr Posted March 23, 2010 Moderators Posted March 23, 2010 I have no quibble with Doug on most theological issues, but I strongly disagree with him and his predecessor Joe Cruise on the matter of jewelry. While I strongly believe in modesty, the proof texts strung together by Amazing Facts against jewelry, IMHO, is more eisegesis and not sound exegesis. Quote

And besides, at least for me, they have much more smarts when it comes to the Bible. pk Quote phkrause When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan. GreatLakesGramma Posted March 24, 2010 Posted March 24, 2010 Will someone please enlighten me as to what this is all about? Who is being given too much power? Power to do what? maric777 Posted March 24, 2010 Posted March 24, 2010 i am totally suprised at this issue, i am a man but what if women are preaching Christ, it is not matter. What about the samartian woman did when she had met and recognized the Messiah? Fields are many and ready for reap but reapers are few; just go on sisters. P. S. Of course brothers are not exempt Quote

Stan Posted March 24, 2010 Author Posted March 24, 2010 The point I was trying to get at, is, not to let one person define what you believe. Doug is giving his opinion on an issue, and some are willing and wanting to abandon or embrace Adventism over it. Moderators Gerr Posted March 24, 2010 Moderators Posted March 24, 2010 Or why did God appoint women prophets? How did they give their messages except by speaking and being in leadership positions? Quote

Moderators Kevin H Posted March 25, 2010 Moderators Posted March 25, 2010 I would like to make a comment on Doug B. Yes, he keeps making statements that make me look for a hole to hide in; but as years go by he's been making less and less of these statements. He is someone who keeps growing. He has come from someone who horrified me to someone who while I don't always agree with have come to appreciate. He is a man willing to look at evidence and grow. (as for this sermon; if I knew that he'd be reseptive and not just see it as an intrusion and just another gift book "Oh, you have so much free time on your hands you need to read this book" type of thing, I'd gladly give him Flemings: Attitudes towards Women in the Bible" for him to study. But anyway, like my posts about Elton John on another thread, Doug B. has his faults, but look where he came from and how much he has grown. Why is there a trend in Adventism to want people be born perfect (at least when they step out of the baptismal tank) It is one thing with people who are just stuborn and pushing their own agenda. But Doug is someone who has come a long, long way, and shows evidence of allowing his views to be questioned and to grow. I really respect that in him. We need to encourage that in him and not just criticize him because he is not perfect. Quote
