Dr. Shane Posted April 24, 2010 Posted April 24, 2010 Shane even though I agree with you that food corporations are doing this to us. We will be slowing taking away our right to choice! The free market isn't perfect. Consider the automobile industry for example. The government sets minimum gasoline and safety standards for the industry. If it did not do this, the automobile industry would make the cars the market demands. Many (not all) of those cars would be very inefficient and dangerous because the industry can make cheap cars that use a lot of fuel and are not safe. So we give up our freedom to buy a gas guzzling death trap in order to have safer and more efficient cars. The food industry fills processed food with high-sodium preservatives because the market demands cheap, processed foods. When the government demands processed foods to have less sodium, it will cost them more to make them. The cost of these foods will increase. Of course there will remain non-processed foods like rice, potatoes, beans, fruits and vegetables that will be unaffected. We give up our liberty to buy high-sodium processed foods but what we will get is low-sodium processed foods that cost slightly more than their high-sodium counterparts did. Dr. Shane Posted April 24, 2010 Posted April 24, 2010 The older cars were built more like tanks but that didn't make them safer. It actually causes more trauma to the body when the car is hit because it didn't absorb and of the impact. Cars made today are made to absorb the impact of a crash and thus minimize the impact on the occupants. Without government mandates, these cars would still be on the market - no doubt. However they would not be the cheap cars. The market would have provided death traps for the lower income not wanting or not willing to pay more for a safer car. Quote Pastoral Family Counselor... My parents had a 1948 Fraiser in the accident that killed my sisters. The drunk driver that hit us was doing an estimated 80 miles per hour broad side, according to his father a passenger. My sisters lost their lives because of a lack of seat belts and being thrown from the car. If I were to be hit broadside at that speed in my cavalier there would be little left to repair as the fraiser was. Not to many lower income purchase brand new cars. They purchase second hand vehicles generally. And not because of a plot by the car makers to sell them death traps Quote Everything you do is based on the choices you make. I believe that if we really wanted to get better gas mileage we could without making cars lighter and lighter, and all that junk on there for smog control. I used to read popular mechanics magazine many years ago, and they had at least 2 or 3 people that had made carburators that did very good gas mileage, but these people disappeared without ever building them in mass production. I disagree with Shane saying that we make things based on what people want. I believe we make things that will benefit those that want to make lots of money, taking advantage of those that don't know better. Because most of the food, in fast food restaurants, has MSG and other things that are not only addictive but help make the food more tasty so that you will come back again and again. We've gotten into eating fast food instead of having our three meals at home. There wasn't as much obesity back when people actually ate at home than we have now. We drink so much soda and fruit drinks instead of water. Is it any wonder the shape people are in? pk Quote phkrause When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan. Proverbs 29;2

Barring the exception of those mentally handicapped God gave us a brain and I think expects us to use it.Not always and forever blaming the other guy with more money or a business. The time will come when we all stand before God,ALONE and have to answer for what we have done with what he gave us. Somehow I don't think it is going to work for me to say,"But God,you let that food corporation, that credit card company, the car manufacturer or whatever dupe me You know you made me poor so I can't help it if I am ignorant" The quickest way as a child in our house to get into trouble was to blame the other guy. What may have been a mild discipline soon became a major incident. I can only be harmed by fast food if I eat it. Otherwise doesn't hurt me a bit.It is strictly my doing as a mother if we as a "family have gotten into eating fast food instead of eating at home. So far no one has dragged any in my family by the hair and forced them to eat at Wendy's. The reasons for obesity are pretty self evident.Again no one has ever forced me to drink soda over water or fruit juice. Quote Everything you do is based on the choices you make. Dr. Shane Posted April 26, 2010 Posted April 26, 2010 I refuse to view every action taken by the government through the fear of a national Sunday law. If a bureaucracy decides to do something the people are against, we can pass a law to stop them. It is that simple. When the national Sunday law is passed, the majority of the people will be crying for it. It is not something that is going to slip in under the radar screen. Quote Pastoral Family Counselor... bonnie Posted April 26, 2010 Author Posted April 26, 2010 In the last week I have had two very interesting conversations. One was an Obama supporter. He has never given the impression of being religious or having much interest. He asked if it were possible that Obama was the antichrist .When I asked his reason for asking he said all you have to do is watch what is going on to know something is terribly wrong in this country since his becoming president. The other is someone I know quite well. We have talked before about religious matters and she has always been reluctant to believe there could be a sunday law or persecution. She said to me out of the blue "Is what Obama is doing as president how it will start" I find it ironic that so many SDA's are saying "I refuse to believe it and others, many not having biblical knowledge are getting concerned Quote Everything you do is based on the choices you make. Dr. Shane Posted April 26, 2010 Posted April 26, 2010 People thought Reagan was the anti-christ too. Look what happened. Reagan came and went and still no Sunday law. Many Adventist thought that everyone getting a Social Security number was a sure sign of the end. 75 years later - still no Sunday law. I think it does our cause great harm to always be crying wolf. Many Adventist are pro-choice because they believe a government that can ban abortion can pass the Sunday law. Quote Pastoral Family Counselor... Every day that passes is one day closer to the close of this earth's and each person's probation. This is not crying wolf. Anti-Christ is all around us. Evolutionists, secularists, materialists, the scoffers are multiplying. Remember that it is the wicked scoffers who say "Where is the promise of his coming?" Christians should not be doing this. Mark the signs of His coming. If Christians want to ignore earthquakes, Big Brother machinations, economic upheavals, they can be my guest. They're still not off the hook. All they really have to do is notice the second hands on their watches. We don't have to cry wolf. The end is closer than when we first believed. People are passing into eternity every second. Quote
