Moderators John317 Posted May 5, 2010 Moderators Posted May 5, 2010 I think the law in Arizona is a bad law, but having lived in Arizona, I understand why it was passed. They do need to do something about the illegal immigrants but not this way. It should never be against the law to give a ride to someone who is not here legally. The police begin to look like the enemy when they are forced to ask questions about immigration. I doubt most police want to do it, and I think it's a wrong use of police powers, besides being dangerous for the cops. They need to try a different law. There's got to be a better way. Just got to. Dr. Shane Posted May 5, 2010 Posted May 5, 2010 The Democrats decided to go to the radical left in order to distinguish themselves from Congressional Republicans and the Bush Administration. I thought it might actually back-fire on them. I don't think many Americans are on the radical extremes. But... it didn't back-fire. The Democrats won Congress and two years later they won the White House. Republicans are now doing the same thing. Republicans are going to the radical right in order to distinguish themselves from Congressional Democrats and the Obama Administration. I have my doubts it will work but... I have been wrong before. I think most Americans tend to be in the middle. When they have only two extremes to choose from, it will be interesting to see how they go. Quote Pastoral Family Counselor... Moderators John317 Posted May 5, 2010 Moderators Posted May 5, 2010 Quote: lazarus: The article is written by a former adviser to John Macain. Not a liberal. I generally vote Republican and I largely agree with the article, particularly as regards the law in Arizona requiring police to ask people for proof of residency or legal entry into the US. They need to do something about enforcing the immigration laws, but the law they passed was a terrible one. I don't see it as a race issue so much as a financial one. Americans basically didn't care about Mexicans coming across illegally until it began to be a financial problem. (Surprisingly, the Americans who are most opposed to Mexicans coming here illegally are the second and third generation of Mexican-Americans. Many of them feel rather strongly, whether true or not, that it's the illegals who give Mexican-Americans a bad reputation.) I would be in favor of repairing the gaping holes in the fences along the Cal.-Mex border near where I live. Also watch more carefully the waters about 1000 feet out from the border where some of my wife's relatives used often to swim across. My wife's niece was legal to come over but her husband was not, so she would bring the baby over and he would swim, and when he got here he would then pick up the baby. But the last time he did it, he got caught and was deported. They had jobs washing cars and repairing car windows in San Diego and Los Angeles, but they're now back in Mexico. Another neice went all the way through High School illegally, learned English, then went back to Mexico and got married. But she had a little boy who was dying of cancer, and the Mexican doctors misdiagnosed his cancer and consequently he was going blind, so she and her husband, Carlos, brought their 4 year old son, Carlito, to a California hospital. He was given the right kind of treatment and lived for about 3 years but died of a ruptured appendix. Carlito's death was due to the negligence of the medical team working on him. I told Ana that they should sue the hospital, but she and Carlos decided not to. The doctors gave Carlito an enima which ruptured his appendix when they should have recognized the classic symptoms of appendicitis. Just recently she returned to Mexico, but Carlos is continuing his work as the head chef at a large restaurant. He plans to go back as soon as he's saved up enough money to buy a house in Tijuana. bonnie Posted May 5, 2010 Posted May 5, 2010 This law doesn't do anything the federal law does if followed.Problem is the federal government doesn't use the existing law. As an american I have been pulled over and asked for registration, insurance etc. Hispanics are somehow to be exempt from answering questions. It was a real eye opener to realize in a termination of parental rights and adoption proceedings, the father of the boys a mexican illegal could not be questioned on his status as related to his ability to care for the boys. My brother, the grandfather of the children, his wife and the mother of the children could be asked anything as it pertained to the children. The father, unstable in work and housing because of his illegal status could not be asked the same type of questions Quote Everything you do is based on the choices you make. Moderators John317 Posted May 5, 2010 Moderators Posted May 5, 2010 Yes, you are right about those things. I see it firsthand all the time. My oldest daughter has been denied financial aid before because she has a caucasion father and isn't full blooded Mexican. Yet she is dark enough so that one rich white man at an expensive retirement center where she worked called her a "Mexican jumping bean," and ordered her not to speak Spanish in his presence (which she didn't do anyway). When she told one German-American man who had disrepected her color that her father was half German, he said he didn't believe it. I almost went there myself and told him to stop the racist talk. When my wife had to have a medical proceedure done on her, the white nurse told me that I shouldn't go with my wife to the clinic because when they saw I am white, they would want her to pay for the surgery. She could get it done but only if she wasn't married to a white guy. So I see both sides and I'm kind of caught in the middle. I love my Mexican family and can sympathize with their plight, but I can see the other side too. Moderators lazarus Posted May 6, 2010 Author Moderators Posted May 6, 2010 The article highlights a particular problem for the republican party. The way they tackle this issue will have an impact on their future prospects as a party perhaps for a generation. I seen it happen in the UK. The conservative party was dubbed the nasty party because of its rhetoric on immigration and other sensitive issues. they may be back in power today but that is after losing the last three elections!. The white population is now 65% of the US population. The GOP will have to recognize sooner or later that it has to begin to understand rather than just shout loudly. John and Shane you both experience it and understand that the whole issue is more and difficult that simply shouting PROTECT THE BORDER! ! ILLEGALS! THEY! CRIME! WELFARE! bonnie Posted May 6, 2010 Posted May 6, 2010 Maybe americans can go to Mexico and try this. Students sent home for wearing American flag on Cinco de Mayo Thomas Lifson Are you worried yet? As President Obama, most Democrats, and most of the media proclaim it racist to enforce immigration laws, five students were sent home from school in Morgan Hill, California because they wore American flag bandannas and t-shirts, and refused to take them off or hide Old Glory. School officials considered the flag display provocative. George Kiriyama of NBC Bay Area reports: [Daniel] Galli says he and his friends were sitting at a table during brunch break when the Vice Principal asked two of the boys to remove American flag bandannas that they wearing on their heads and for the others to turn their American flag t-shirts inside-out. When they refused, the boys were ordered to go to the principal's office. "They said we could wear it on any other day, but today is sensitive to Mexican Americans because it's supposed to be their holiday so we were not allowed to wear it today," Daniel Galli said. The boys said the administrators called their t-shirts "incendiary" that would lead to fights on campus. [snip] "They said if we tried to go back to class with our shirts not taken off, they said it was defiance and we would get suspended," Dominic Maciel, Galli's friend, said. Apparently, school officials are willing to tolerate an atmosphere in which the American flag is regarded as a cause for violence, and unwilling to control (or even stand up to) students who dishonor the flag so many people died for, in order to preserve the liberty now vanishing in places like Morgan Hill. Studnets wearing Mexican flags were allowed to attend school unmolested by administrators or teachers. ... to many Mexican American students at Live Oak, this was a big deal. They say they were offended by the five boys and others for wearing American colors on a Mexican holiday. "I think they should apologize cause it is a Mexican Heritage Day," Annicia Nunez, a Live Oak High student, said. "We don't deserve to be get disrespected like that. We wouldn't do that on Fourth of July." As for an apology, the boys and their families say, "fat chance." This is the sort of squelching of patriotism that might be implemented by a conquering power imposing its will on colonial subjects. It is entirely consistent with the agenda of "reconquista" - where Mexico takes back the Southwest United States through massive immigration, ultimately severing it from the United States. That's a pretty racist statement there, Laz. If Whites do band together this November, you can thank Obama for it. Just remember Obama couldn't be in office right now except for the majority of the votes he received that came from "racist" ol' Whitey. Actually, it might come as a suprise to know it wasn't a triumph of minorities over the White majority...it was the White majority willing to put race aside, assuming minorities would reciprocate. Your "Party of White" was dead wrong. It has been most disappointing that the political Left can benefit from Whites putting Obama into the White House, then turn the country's racial discussion into the most polarized it has been since before the 60's by the incessant playing of the race card. It is that incessant labelling everyone and everything disagreeing with the Left as "racist" that has so many angry after they have only disagreed with policies. Yes, Laz, there is a huge backlash building, but it isn't because of white racism. It is coming because the majority of people (coming from every ethnic group) disagree vehemently with what the Democrats are doing. Any majority disagreement is by nature going to have more Whites than other ethnic groups. That is simple math. The Democrat majorities aren't going to survive the coming elections in November. Obama is going to be turned out of office in 2012. Political pundits on both sides of the aisle are severely underestimating the depth of American anger right now. Labelling the opposition as "the Party of White" racism is but a very ignorant assessment of the situation.
