Moderators lazarus Posted May 9, 2010 Author Moderators Posted May 9, 2010 Actually, Laz, that's up for considerable debate...considering his Senatorial "maverick" authorship record. And that's John McCain, right? Who up only until recently never met a liberal idea he didn't like.... The man has a 92% GOP voting record. John McCain is a Populist-Leaning Conservative. He got the GOP nomination remember. Conservatives voted for him. Quote Great spirits have always found violent opposition from mediocrities. Moderators lazarus Posted May 9, 2010 Author Moderators Posted May 9, 2010 Party of White? That's a pretty racist statement there, Laz. Kevin Hassett, director of economic-policy studies at the American Enterprise Institute, is a Bloomberg News columnist. He was an adviser to Republican Senator John McCain in the 2008 presidential election. The opinions expressed are his own. Quote: It is that incessant labelling everyone and everything disagreeing with the Left as "racist" that has so many angry after they have only disagreed with policies. No not incessant. And not everyone and everything just sometimes when they have placards and make certain prjorative remarks. This article is about the republican party not about the white democrats and independents who elected Obama. Quote: Labeling the opposition as "the Party of White" racism is but a very ignorant assessment of the situation. That's not really the point of the article I think. Most conservatives voted for him as the only other choice was Obama.Or they were voting for Sarah Palin on the ticket Quote Everything you do is based on the choices you make. It's not your parents, your past relationships, your job, the economy, the weather, an argument, or your age that is to blame. You and only you are responsible for every decision and choice you make, period ... ... Wish more people would realize this. Quotes by Susan Gottesman
karl Posted May 9, 2010 Posted May 9, 2010 Most conservatives voted for him as the only other choice was Obama.Or they were voting for Sarah Palin on the ticket It is absolutely frightening to most true conservatives that the Republican Party seems incapable of finding a truly conservative candidate who isn't a war-mongering dolt. How about just a normal person who is opposed to big government and who can express his position cogently? Huckabee and Romney were both better candidates than some guy suffering from PTSD. Quote

McCain was put on the ticket by the political left-of-center of both parties. McCain's campaign was dead until two things happened: 1) Cross-over voting in the early northeast primaries gave McCain "victories" over more conservative cadidates, and 2) Money flowed in from leftist donors in both parties (Leftist Repubs, who want to liked by Dems, and Dems, who knew McCain would be the easiest candidate to beat, as he is so hooked on PC he wouldn't dare run the kind of campaign needed to derail the Obama Express). By the time the campaign reached the bona fide "red states" with closed ballots, McCain already had an insurmountable lead. Yes, it would be nice to find a conservative candidate who can articulate the position well that is not 1) a war-mongering dolt, or 2) an isolationist dolt. Quote "As iron sharpens iron, so also does one man sharpen another" - Proverbs 27:17 "The offense of the cross is that the cross is a confession of human frailty and sin and of inability to do any good thing. To take the cross of Christ means to depend solely on Him for everything, and this is the abasement of all human pride. Men love to fancy themselves independent. But let the cross be preached, let it be made known that in man dwells no good thing and that all must be received as a gift, and straightway someone is offended." Ellet J. Waggoner, The Glad Tidings "Courage is being scared to death - and saddling up anyway" - John Wayne "The person who pays an ounce of principle for a pound of popularity gets badly cheated" - Ronald Reagan
Dr. Shane Posted May 9, 2010 Posted May 9, 2010 McCain got the nomination because many of the Christian right wouldn't vote for a Mormon (Mitt Romney). Mike Huckabee is a great guy but not charismatic and motivational enough to rally voters to him. Ron Paul can only get the Libertarian vote. So McCain was the only one left standing.
