National Vegetarian Week 2010

May 24-30 2010

National Vegetarian Week (NVW) is the annual awareness-raising campaign promoting inspirational vegetarian food and the benefits of a meat-free lifestyle. Now in its eighteenth year, National Vegetarian Week is a great opportunity to look at food and its impact on the environment, animals and health.

You said it 'nuff sed!!!! Thanks for the list of protein plant foods. Too, Adam and Eve were not the only ones who utilized a plant based diet. Consider the elephant, hippo, rhino, horse, cow, etc.--all continue to thrive on a vegetarian diet.

Does anyone have a really good recipe for making vegetarian burgers or patties to be served to people who usually eat meat? There are many canned type, but I would looking for home made burgers using veggies from the garden along with some grains and nuts. Thanks

Dr. Rich, there is a whole thread that has receipes, and I think there are a few for vegeburgers. Check it out.

Sivart did you see all the Tofu receipes? That has more and better protein for you than meat.

Gorillas. Don't forget the gorillas. Generally the people worried about protein are the macho types. Gorillas are vegans. Heap big, seriously agile, and mucho strong.

I read something once that seemed to say the people who eat meat have a somewhat more aggressive temperament. Has anyone else read anything like that?

Well, I think that the more stressed an animal is when it dies, the more adrenaline is in its meat. I'm not sure if that can affect human behavior though.

Good question Dottie. I think I have read this before, and I believe it came from EGW.

And Sivart I do believe you are correct. This is why God told us in the OT not to eat the blood or fat of any animal. Have you ever seen a slaughter house and how that kill the animals? That's why when the Israelites killed an animal they killed it quickly with a knife at the neck. slaughter house's don't do this. I remember years ago we used to drive down to Manhattan to go to church and there used to be a pig slaughter house just as you came off the highway and you could hear them sguilling (sp). Which really excites the blood and than when this blood is not drained before eating and people order this rare or semi-rare etc. they are putting this into there blood stream. We had a Jewish pastor that preached about this at every evangelistic meeting we would have for the Jewish people, and who ever else would come to the meetings. And he also talked about the urine of these same animals. He wrote a book about this. At the moment I can't remember the name of the book.

When cows are slaughtered with dum-dum shots to the brain, they become vegetables for an instant before they die.

So carnivores can claim to be eating vegetables.

Wasn't Hitler a vegetarian?

Oh, and he didn't drink or smoke either.

(would have made a good Adventist???!)

It is not saying that a phlegmatic personality with meat is more aggressive than a choleric without meat. I think it is comparing the same temperament with and without meat.

Where do you think cattle, deer, horses, rabbits, etc. get theirs?

Most people eat too much protein. I get a lot of mine from different kinds of beans, and nuts.

It's true, most people do eat way too much protein, and it's damaging their systems. Human breast milk contains only 9% of its calories as protein. This is the exclusive food of human infants at the time when they are growing faster than they ever will again, at any time in their lives. That is what protein is for, growth of tissues.

So that's the reason you're full of hot air.....

You do know that with all that 'hot air', you could pass as a respiratory therapist?
