But if I said the same thing in a nightclub before a half drunk audience they would find it hilarious and it would likely get a huge laugh. While that may be an extreme, there is a time and a place for everything. This not that place for many things that you or I could get away with or even be applauded for elsewhere.

No, karl, there is nothing egregious about calling out olger on his crassness and insensitivity in a public Christian forum. If he and you cannot understand that filtering ourselves in certain contexts is expected, appropriate and necessary then maybe the two of you should seriously consider whether you belong here. It may be time for the juveniles to grow up and act like mature men instead giggling pre-pubescent boys.

I've seen and read a lot worse things on this forum than what Olger posted, and no one objected, and, in fact, most on the forum thought they were funny. People are disrespected here all the time, so I'm not quite sure why now all the hand wringing is being done.

Yes, karl it is. That olger didn't have an idea that this might offend possibly even a few, and that neither he nor you seem yet willing to acknowledge with even a hint of apology that it has in fact offended more than a few, it is very much over the top - the top of both of your heads.

And then again if there possibly was that awareness that it could offend and insensitivity offered no self-restraint and/or insensitivity says I really don't care if I offend those I know, double shame on you both. It's about respect. If you don't get that, again it is over the top of your heads.

Listen, in the grand scheme of things this is relatively mild in comparison to that which passes for humor these days and perhaps what each of may find amusing inside our own little heads. But some thoughts are best kept to ourselves in mixed company or company even slightly more refined than ourselves. And I indeed have very broad, and quite low at times, taste in humor. But even in my densest moments, I readily acknowledge that not everyone, and for that matter at times few at all appreciate my sense of humor and what I find amusing. But I do try to get at least a modest clue as to who might actually not appreciate me sharing out loud in even marginally Christian circles the humor of George Carlin, Family Guy, The Simpsons, Monte Python, Don Rickles, Cheech and Chong, Larry the Cable Guy, Ron White, etc.

And cartoonishly photoshopped butts in red spandex with all the juvenile, pejorative commentary was simply playing out on the wrong stage. Don't complain that you got booed and then lectured when you seemed not to understand.

Yes I have too. And I certainly have been one to offend at times. And maybe its past time for people to just sit on their thumbs when that happens. Some people just need to be told when they are out of bounds.

Yes, these things do escalate. But it didn't need to if someone would have chosen to not turn it into yet another referendum on political incorrectness as if that should be somehow considered virtuous.

That would be because when a mild and good humored suggestion was made that some were not amused, some chose to stand firm and defend their insensitivety and try to frame it as a virtue. And then a disingenuous effort was made to turn the whole thing on its head and suggest that olger was really the victim, the one being dissed by being confronted about it.

There are a number of potential topics that we could start joking about around here, but given the known background and personal identity of even one person that might be offended should restrain us from going down that path. Humor is a very tricky thing and even quite dangerous in the hands of professionals.

This isn't the Humor Forum so I am assuming it wasn't intended to be humorous. Where I live, we have overweight people wearing bikinis. That really gets to be gross. We also have boys wearing pants that hang down to their knees. We have men's bellies coming out from under their shirts and hanging below their belts. There are a lot of people that don't know how to dress. I am not sure making fun of them is the best way to motivate a change in their behavior.

We also have boys wearing pants that hang down to their knees. We have men's bellies coming out from under their shirts and hanging below their belts. There are a lot of people that don't know how to dress. I am not sure making fun of them is the best way to motivate a change in their behavior.

Good point Gail. Does it really matter that she didn't know that this was done behind her back? Maybe or maybe not, but God does, and he knows the motive behind it also. Now I'm not judging because I don't know why or for what purpose this was posted.

Now I know that there are many, far to many overweight people in this country. But many might have a medical reason or another reason, we don't know, and like it was mentioned is this the way to show them Christ There are many sick people with many different problems and overweight people are just one of those.

The central point, (which the maudlin malcontents missed in their mad rush to out-politically correct one other) is that my wife was laughing at me because the thing was almost in my face and stayed that way for a long time. We made the best of it, and like always try to see the lighter side of life.

For some strange reason a lot of overweight people choose to wear tight clothing in public. I suppose it's okay to be proud of fatness but they really don't think about the mental damage it does to children and most adults when they wear this material. Some fat people occasionally decide to take it one step further by wearing spandex in public - and the the damaging effect it has on our society is nothing short of catastrophic. This is why I'm initiating proposition 250 for the 2012 election.

Proposition 250 states that any person who weighs over 250 pounds is not allowed to wear spandex by law ... join me for a better America.

Ps. I just realized that my statement in post #364877 was insensitive ("lighten up a bit"). I punished myself by doing 50-consecutive pushups.
