Can anyone tell me quickly ... what to do with a nest and two eggs. The Mother has been sitting on her eggs in the hanging basket on our porch. But just a couple of minutes ago ... she crashed into our living room window and is dead or dying.

What should I do or can I do about the two eggs?

Take the nest with the eggs to the Audubon Society. I don't think you can hatch and feed the babies. Are you sure the mother bird is dead and not stunned?

Maybe the papa bird will come and take care of the nest... don't know.

Initially she was stunned. Now she's a gonner.

I have no idea where the Audubon Society is but they are most likely closed.

Yes, I had hoped papa would show up ... but so far no luck. This is why I've chosen to keep the dead momma on the porch ... so that papa will know she is dead.

Woody that's awful, hope you can get a resolution soon. Maybe in the meantime you can sit on them till the other bird shows. :) Just kidding, about the sitting of course.

This was very interesting pk. It stated that the other mate will join in to sit on the eggs. They take day and night time shifts. So, perhaps at night they will get taken care of.

There is another Dove hanging around UNDER the nest but not sitting on the eggs. Perhaps it's waiting for it's shift.

But it stated that often the single parent can't keep the eggs correctly for some reason.

I do differ with their thought that the Doves are frightened easily and abandon the nest. The last Doves that had a nest a few weeks ago ... would not move when I took the basket down and watered it.

Well ... let's hope for the best.

Good News. The Dove that was walking or wondering around UNDER the nest ... finally decided to sit on the eggs. The link that pk gave me said they might die anyways ... but I do now finally feel better. It took 5 hours. But I pray they are okay. I guess the Dove finally agreed to an early shift.

Maybe the dove was mourning his mate.

As warm as it is, the delay in the mate getting to the eggs is probably not a problem. But the egs have to be turned regularly to help the chicks develop. That is what the parents are for, as well as keeping the eggs at the proper temp.

Hope they hatch soon!

Morning Dove Egg Update:

The single Mother/Father is still sitting on the eggs. But when I took the basket down today ... I noticed that the eggs are still not hatched. How long does it take? I hope they are okay.

I hope they're okay! I don't know very much about bird hatching times though...

I have a sad announcement to make.

It would appear that the eggs no longer have even a single parent. They are now parentless. I think the last parent feels it's a hopeless case. :(

Is there still a chance they might be alive? And could maybe be incubated?

The parent could tell that the eggs were dead and left the nest. Time to dump the eggs.

I've left the eggs out just in case another bird might be willing to stop by and give a second opinion. But so far no luck. I feel so bad for those lonely eggs.

Oh well. At least they might be a meal for another bird?
