Look. I'm not planning on eating the eggs. I was just hoping that they might serve SOME purpose

and perhaps another bird might find some use for them. tweet indeed

What does eating them have to do with it? If you leave them out there long enough, they will rot and stink, unless some other creature eats them first.

Yes. That's what I'm hoping for. (Within a reasonable time frame)

If you want something to consume the eggs, you'll have to toss them out into the underbrush. Otherwise the big stink will be on your porch. Or whereever that basket is hanging.

You'd have to think for yourself.

Or you'd learn some lessons firsthand that you might prefer not to.

I am happy to report that a chicken came over and took care of the problem. Blanche was alerted to a "distressed" chicken. She called me over and asked what would make the chicken so upset. I looked and sure enough the chicken had eaten the eggs.

Now what would make a chicken eat an egg?

Obviously .... the eggs were not very tasty.

Is that cannibalistic?

No, because they were a different kind of bird. Cannibalism is to eat one's own kind.

Let me ask then since this discussion has turned to cannibulism ... is it alright to eat humans of a different kind?

If we all sang the same note in the choir, there'd never be any harmony.

Funny, isn't it, how we accept Grace for ourselves and demand justice for others?

Humans are all the same kind. It isn't about race, it's about species. Rats will kill and eat mice, because they are in competition for the same food. That isn't cannibalism. But if a mouse kills and eats another mouse, which male mice will do to other males that invade their territory, that is cannibalism. Rats and mice are both rodents, just as chickens and doves are both birds, but they are not the same kind of rodents or birds.

Cannibalism is the norm in some species. The black widow and other female spiders eat their mates after mating. And if danger or starvation threatens her young, even an herbivorous mammal may eat them.

When I raised rabbits, I kept them in hutches raised off the ground. The cats used to go under there and look up at the rabbits, trying to figure out how to get in there and eat them. This unnerved one doe so much that she ate her perfectly healthy babies.

You're making me kind of glad you didn't show up for dinner today, Woody. My husband would have been saying, "is THIS the kind of people you are hanging out with on that forum?!!!"

Then he might have been a bit miffed, because when HE starts talking nonsense like you have been here, I ignore him and go do something else.
